Being a newly retired Scotsman living now in Cambodia I am intrigued about discovering life in a different climate, different culture and different Whiskies. There is a huge selection to choose from at the local Angkor Supermarket (a choice of product that would put any European Supermarket to shame). Today I chose the Whisky you are reviewing today and being a fan of Islay Single Malts this one, especially with that drop of water or on ice, would with ease hold its own. I braw dram indeed.

it will be good to give it a shake before drinking. the blended hibiki i tried was nice then nasty at the half way mark. i also read somewhere mountain dew was originally designed to be a whisky mixer, i have not had any success with it ... just nasty

How does this gin taste in a gin & tonic?

You might have bought a bad batch. Had 2 bottles of Hibiki, both were great. I respect that each will have their preferences. The Japanese do make a whisky soda (Highball) and their whisky is designed for it. However, I don't like the Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve.

Hahaha...some would say its sacrilegious to mix it with cola etc.

Hey brother! Try some Paul John classic select cask and the peated version. Indian whiskies are awesome. These are becoming one of my favorites already. Peated version is 55.5% ABV and the classic select cask is 55.2%. There's a lot of bang for your buck here with quality flavors!

I got it very very cheap. Let s be honest for the price how can I complain ? It is just a basic whisky, not very interesting, going with sparkling water or with a bit of water. BUT it does the job.

I just tried this drink and then checked for reviews, came across your video. I agree with everything you said, have the same opinion on the taste…this drink isn’t my cup of tea either…😀

When I smelled it, I thought it smelled like shit,once I swallowed it ,I really hoped it was shit.

Last week, I found a 330ml bottle of this in Puerto Rico and did not like it.

100 dollar 40% Macallan product ''rich'' and ''full bodied'' and recommended as an auto-buy? With all due respect, what kind of a whisky consumer are you talking to? Anyone above beginner level looking for value and good stuff shouldn't even look at this.

The (UK) 5.2% version is the version typically referred to as the wife beater. Since then it has dramatically reduced in ABV, and is no longer thought of as the wife beater. Nowadays it's more of a wife cuddler.

A legit question. I can't afford a chivas 25, but if i keep my chivas 18 for 7 years, does the taste will mature to a chivas 25? Or the aging process stops when it was transferred from its original barrel

So. My views on this. 100+ dollars for a 12 year old macallan at 40% ABV. Meaning your paying about 20-25 SGD in taxes and GST. The rest is margin. I would expect if they used a sherry cask, they'd use a proper one and not one that has been seasoned with sherry. It's kind of a cheap substitute to a sherry cask.

Drinking it now, prefer it neat. Adding water takes quite a bit of taste away.

Jack daniels has been made for soo long. It is the baseline for what whiskey is. Whiskey at its core. How can you be a bourbon/whiskey snob and turn your nose up at it in its original form? There are many things you can do to take it higher with aging time and barrels etc and will give an exceptional experience and higher price. Blantons is great yes but the prices aren't. For the price give me smooth, sweet bottles of jack all day long.

How do you think you would do, in a blind taste test, with these two?

Interesting review, 🙂. I'm curious why you don't use a brandy glass (snifter) & allow the brandy to warm gently as it is traditionally taken rather than use a Glencairn? I've been enjoying this sipping spirit over the festive season and I am delighted with how it delivers - I'm not expecting the complexities of a fine Malt whisky - but I am impressed especially at the price point.

Suggest you try the Raspberry flavoured vodka. Let me know what you think.

Agree with you, i had the 18 for christmas and it taste not good at all!!! Weird aftertaste, moldy musky, something got wrong in the aging process, i'm so sad! 10 years ago, i had the same bottle and it was much much better with no aftertaste like this one. What's going on with Chivas (English not good sorry)
