Anyone approximately my age or older, if memory is still more or less intact, might recall a song from the 50s, a hit tune sung by Jimmy Rodgers called "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine". It was this song, but with less esoteric lyrics, as rewritten by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays. Same tune, but whole different love-song lyric and more conventional chord progressions. Lead Belly got the song, Drumion Dubh, from an Irish musician he met, and who translated it into something Lead Belly could sing in English.
