great review Laurie , loving my 400 👍
Awesome mate, was a bit torn between 400 and reload. And by the way congrats on cracking the 1k subscribers 👍👍
AAli are you back on a yak? It was looking like the 4000 watch hours would be the tricky one but the Lure Masters vid sorted that one out 👍
@ i am seriously considering getting another one. Might have to borrow your old one for a bit 🙏. You deserve recognition mate. Well done.
Excellent video. Yes, definitely, the new 400 is a good all-rounder .The removable pod is a good thing ,maybe they'll make it part of the standard package one day. but I like the extra capacity that the gt and reload tackle pod have..as well
100% agree with you, it really should be part of the base package 👍
Another great vid Loz, appreciate you taking the time to diligently go through all your setup is an open honest way that you are so great at. Awesome to see some weight off your drag to the beach even 2kg can make a big difference after 8-10hrs on the water! Grats on the new yak.
Nga mihi Andy, we need to have a fish together this summer 👍
Awesome Vid Loz, Love your Mahi!!
Cheers boet
I could make you an extended rudder if you need one Loz
Great vid thanks, I love seeing how people organise all the clutter… I’ve got a Raymarine element and it fits in my reload nicely coiled up (it is a tight fit however). Interesting what your say about the wind affecting the 400 less, thats quite a big deal eh?
Did you manage to coil it all into the cylinder? Have you turned the voltage alarm down on yours? It’s a great sounder but the alarm 😬
@ yeah I coiled it around the sides and then did a vertical coil in the centre. I haven’t turned off the voltage alarm, should I?
I actually have turned it off, i just checked👍
That’s impressive making it fit, I turned the alarm down to a lower setting but the fluctuating voltage still sets it off, have to say they’re a nice unit to use 👍
Yeah it’s pretty sweet alright👍do you know how to get the 3d scan window to show as full screen?
Very informative Laurie, thanks! I used to have the reload, on my return to NZ I opted for the 400 (still on the old style) mainly due to less weight to lug around.
Thanks for the feedback, it would be interesting to see how you find the new version when you get to paddle one.
Great vid and ideas, I have both the older 400 and reload - I’ve found 400 is more stable but a barge to paddle compared with the reload, and those handle straps on the original 400 are a shocker, I target kingis on livies and one issue I’ve had is how to land / handle really large kingis occasionally, it’s pretty dicey compared to snapper trying to drag these things onto the yak to dispatch - have considered outrigger tubes to add stability- any thoughts based on your experience - I’ve seen your vid landing a good king without to many problems?? Cheers Karl
Karl, hand in the mouth for Kings, they don’t bite. There’s a great example with Rex in one of my West Coast vids, putting a big king in the rear well. Interesting your comments on the old 400 v the reload. The new 400 is a different yak, big improvement.
Nice!!
Thats a weka
Cheers WCF, the Weka is rarer than a Kiwi in the North Island but they’re definitely in that location 👍
Was that Glen from Maraehako campgrounds?
Yep
hope you enjoyed the cray - You and Nathan should get together
The Cray was so good cuz, delicious.
Great video, on the spot again. Liking the music - 'Over Sharin' from the BOP. Check them out :)
Great track Wayne, thanks for letting me use it. Looking forward to future tracks the band puts out 👍
Another great vid! thanks for sharing.
Cheers Nick 👍
I enjoy the way you are respectful of the local fisheries, and the locals obviously pick up on that vibe and welcome you. I'm sure they get some prick$ they have to deal with, rocking up from elsewhere. That is a 'blue mackerel' - I've caught a few in the Far North on softbaits. I didn't know what they were the first time, either. Actually a small member of the tuna family. Supposed to be decent smoked, but otherwise not great eating.
Yeah bro, there’s heaps of examples for similar fisheries and some guys get pissed about the rāhui’s but the reality is the kaitiakitanga of the manawhenua is the reason we want to fish those places 👍
jeez those snapper gave you shit 🤣 tough handling them on the yak tho
Everything is harder on a yak 😂
Hey Great work, what was skippy using for lures ?? Was he fishing along the coast or did he go out deep
He found a patch of fish in 28m, hopefully he will put a vid up so you can see what he was using 👍
bunch of legends.
Gutted mate!
Been one of those years mate, hooked some rippers and lost them all 😢
Awesome, very well done 🤙
Cheers Damo
I like Viking kayak. Very stable and fast. good fishing kayak
NZ has a lit Snapper fish,.
Sure does, where are you based?
@@yakfishfun8441 USA, calfinornia. Not good compare to NZ
We’re very lucky that we have a lot of coastline relative to our population, fishing improves a lot the more remote I go 👍
@@yakfishfun8441 I bought Snapper from Grocery and it labled from NewZeland. It is very tasty fish, better than any fish.
Some good fish up there, have caught two one 82, one 87 further up the coast from Home Point
Definitely some great genetics along that stretch of coastline 👍
Some tricky fishing there for ya loz epic to watch that first snap had me going 😂looks like alot of fun out there with the boys keep it up🤙
Cheers bro, lots of fun with a good bunch of guys.
Unlucky on that bruiser mate
It’s haunting me boet 😢
awesome video and amazing effort boys!! Well done Skippy the man!!!
Cheers bruv 👍
You boys definitely put in the hard yards mate! Love the comp fishing and chasing those big dogs! Epic videos mate. New subscriber here!
Nga mihi Ihaka, your last vid was a banger (subbed) 👍
Devastating when the donk got off. So often happens when we slightly slacken off to grab the landing net or something similar - particularly at the very end when the fish makes a last twist or two - rather than the straight line pulls earlier. There is certainly a moral dilemma with chasing PB snapper in the 20lb+ class. Some of the renowned big fish areas out of Houhora, for example, are 30+m depths, where barotrauma is almost inevitable. That's why some of the country's best big snap softbaiters stick to the shallows - but seldom end up on comp winner boards.
You’ve 100% nailed it, I enjoy fishing this comp but the death toll would be way lower if held in winter but the numbers entering would also be lower.
good vid Lozza and congrats to all you guys.
Epic Lozza.
Fantastic. We'll done Skippy! Amazing result.

Awesome vid Loz ! i miss that place ! the feeling when you've hooked up and out of you're comfort zone is something different !
I was thinking of your success there when I was fishing, epic spot
Hey man, i have a viking reload. How can i order a cover that you make for the rear?
Either through messenger or lauriepottinger@icloud.com 👍
I’m watching your videos and have always wondered why u don’t have a pedal kayak instead of a paddle would get you out of trouble easier someone told me the pedal power aren’t allowed in comps? Question
Hi Stu, great question. Three reasons - weight - prefer less moving parts - and I enjoy the excitement of pushing my limits. A few years back I was using a Bixpy, they are awesome for holding position but I started missing the adrenaline, to me yak fishing is more than just having a fishing platform 👍
Tu meke Lozza 👊🏽👍🏽
Nga mihi Jonno 👍
Legend dude. Some awesome fish there mate!!
Nga mihi
Great vid and some nice fish
Did you fish the comp mate?
@@yakfishfun8441 Nah, maybe next year???
Jesus mate! you had me on the edge of my seat with that first big snapper, I thought you were done. Great fishing.
😂 the GoPro makes it look better than reality, some of the sets that went through before hook up were big
Great vid in challenging conditions! What a location...I've always wanted to fish there.
Thanks Rob, I thought the Stealth tribe were regulars there?
Yeh that was a popular spot probably half a dozen years ago when doing the Northland comps - Softbait Challenge and Northland Classic - but for whatever reason it has 'fallen off the radar' over the last few years. Of late i've heard of multiple instances of the locals not being very 'receptive' to outsiders with tyres being slashes and an incident of someone being driven off the road...that might have put some people off. I'd still love to give it a go though...the contour maps show some awesome looking terrain
Couple of the guys weren’t keen to go there because it’s meant to be a hot or cold spot. I don’t think it’s getting the yak pressure it used to, guys have transitioned to boats or left the sport and not many young ones coming through 😢
I heard the same re 'it being a hot' today and 'cold' tomorrow type of spot. And for sure a lot of the 'old bulls', some of whom were superb kayak fishos' , have moved on or 'retired' or alternatively have chosen to go under the radar (but still catch seriously big fish which you wouldn't know about unless you asked them)
Cheers mate bloody awesome
Thanks heaps to you and Dan for organising the event, that’s huge mahi 👏
Great fish looking forward to part 2
Cheers bro, next Sunday 👍
Nice work bruv!!! Epic video cant wait for part 2 😁💯🙏
Cheers Ari 👍
I’m kicking myself for not heading up there. Awesome effort once again lozza. You too Skippy. That measure board balances really well.
Jezza, you did the right thing with what’s going on, I hugely respect your whanau values 👍
use to surf there all the time
I’ve fished there a few times and never seen a surfer, did you surf Elliot’s?

Ciao. Grazie.
Both the ProFish 400 and the Reload have great stability, the 400 is my favourite in close around the rocks but if you’re fishing further offshore the extra length and lift from the higher front make the Reload the better kayak if it’s a long paddle back in wind or chop. Hope that helps, cheers Lozza.
wicked Loz. Almost at 1000 subs too bro
🤣 limping along to 1k
Thanks, Loz.... know the feeling when you invite somebody along with you for a fish and they out smoke you haha..... we need to invest in cameras on their yaks so at least we get some footage out of it!... Spring around the corner so im sure the fishing will pick up in frenzy. Tight lines.
Andy that would be the advantage of fishing with another TH-camr, swap cameras for the day and get some awesome b-roll 👍
Drew...one of those good kayak fishos who regularly gets big fish but 'flies under the radar'.
Rob, bang on, every time Ive fished with him he’s slayed it 👍
