Did u try the long necks from the 7×57 brass to see if they close the bolt see if long necks work make it easier to load ammo if long necks hold bullet better
Back in the day was called the 3inch roberts necked reamed to 3inches to load more powder very common for 257 bob dudes
Hornady has 6mm brass I use to neck down and it works great
I meant necked up sorry
Have you considered a 120 Gr Nosler Partition?
@@BZE_Fishin I may give it a try
I’m not a reloader so, I’m sure you know more about this than I do but…looking at the issue you are dealing with, the Partition has a limited boat tail design with a OAL of 1.175. That may help with your throat issue.
@ maybe
I’ve watched multiple.350 rifle vids, and over penetration seems to be the norm.
@@olivieraleman I think it’s worst with the pistol because it looses so much velocity that it doesn’t have the energy to mushroom.
Not a liar! Good vid, I have .350 rifle and considering the S&W.
@@olivieraleman thank you
Use a chemical striper to get finish off use a damp rag and iron to steam out dents.use tooth brush for checkering. Use heat gun to work out all the stripper.
@@brucepierce4971 did you watch? I literally did all those things except for the heat gun at the end. Didn’t need it.
@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 yes I did watch all the video ,I typed all those at the first part of the video I spoke to soon sorry.I wood use the heat gun to insure all the stripper is gone,or your finish won't bond properly.I am a retired cabinet trim carpenter
For what it's worth, the 7x57 and 257 Roberts were the only two M77's that usually lack in the accuracy department. These are the only two calibers that Ruger did NOT make the barrels themselves. They farmed them out and accuracy was very hit or miss. I have a 1978 M77 "Bob" myself. Lucky for me mine is minty. It will only do just under 1.5moa for five rounds with handloads.
I took my mags apart, used a fine sandpaper lightly on the follower, lightly oiled them internally and i have never had a problem since then.
70% of the dagger stuff / components arent ever available? Ive got a vision of what i want, but parts out of stock. Grrrr.
@@jeffreynye3019 that part is tuff, but I believe speaks to the demand.
Good video Just curious, did you find what the blemish was?
Never did!
What was your avg velocity on those bullets?
@@FC2ESWS honestly because of my intended use for short range hunting, I’ve never shot them over my chronograph.
Just ordered the camo combo 300 blk savage, like you have the ar needed a bolt gun in 300blk. It was ruger or savage chose savage
@@henryvandervort9891 there are pros and cons to both. I like how heavy the barrel is on the axis.
Put it in the bull come on you got the scope down it's doing good way to go .
Mine worked fine with weak 10mm loads but not full power loads (600+ Ft pounds of muzzle energy). To make mine work properly with full power loads I had to do a recoil spring and mag spring upgrade. If you run an optic you need to add a metal plate and upgraded hardware. With full power 10mm I’ve had failure to feed issues, and the mag was ejecting by itself. It’s been a common issue with these guns. Some people got good ones but most of them have issues and it’s very well documented. The only ones who deny and defend this are the fanboys who can’t be honest about their favorite brand. I also see a lot of people have had issues with the stock plastic red dot plates and stock hardware. Smith and Wesson knocked it out of the park in terms of ergonomics, it’s such a shame that the reliability in stock from doesn’t match when you aren’t using watered down 10mm. I love smith and own 4 soon to be 5 of their products, but they dropped a turd with this gun. I love mine too much to get rid of it, but even after I got it to work a lot better it just sits in the safe now lol.i bought a Gen 4 Glock 40 mos in 10mm to takeover its role.
I love this gun now, but without a doubt, it took me fixing some of the issues, like a metal plate for the red dot and a recoil spring and lots of break in.
1st shot 6 clicks to the right on the money
The scope is way to high on the gun need lower rings on that gun to shoot really good done it on my 308 and 6.5 CM works nice PS Hornady ammo SUCKS . On the gun you have that scope needs to co down at least 3 / 4 of an inch .
@@strongmakeit6244 how high the scope is mounted does not effect its ability to shoot well.
100 year old cartridge this year. 2025, here we go!
Very good practical shooting review of the gun.
I had issues with this pew pew jamming on 115 grain. Some others suggested to leave it cocked for a few days and then run some 124 through it. However, what solved the issue was a good polishing of the barrel chamber. After that I ran some Federal hallow point 124, Fiocchi 124FMJ and some Magtech 115FMJ and had zero issues. I ran over 150 rounds through and it ran great.
Thanks for the info
You might consider doing a chamber cast , measure , reform a new batch of 7 mm mauser brass to 3 thousands less than max length ,it will give you a longer length brass. That's how we dealt with it back when the 257 Roberts 3 inch was a thing. That aside flat base Speer hot core gives a little flexibility. That all said the ruger 77 I once owed was the worst 257 I ever had. If yours didn't have the 200 th anniversary on the barrel I would say rebarrel it.
I still find it rather bizzare, Ruger still , pour casts...., it's Recievers , instead of CNC Machining them, But Thompson Center did the same with the Venture Rifle. Does it make a difference? , probably not, but I don't want a casting made Reciever.
For what it's worth, the 7x57 and 257 Roberts were the only two M77's that usually lack in the accuracy department. These are the only two calibers that Ruger did NOT make the barrels themselves. We need to see one of the "armor piercing" ones hit steel
Their likelihood of ricocheting makes me really nervous to hit steel. Maybe a cinder block.
Interesting. I have never seen a cam pin break. Now I know how the gun reacts when it happens. I think your groups would improve a little bit if you would load all five rounds in the magazine and work through the shots without coming off the gun. I like to be motionless on the gun until I'm done with my group. I try to not break concentration. The ejection pattern of the cases is very inconsistent. I suspect very different pressures and velocities. I would test it through a chronograph to see what the difference is between the fastest and slowest shots in a five shot group. I suspect there will be a wide variance.
That red dot is trash. Glass is starting to shatter on mine after 700 rounds. Never been dropped or hit on anything. Gun stays locked up in the case when I’m not using it.
@@PewPew9mm that’s interesting. I haven’t had an issue yet and I’ve got about 1000 rounds since adding the red dot. Have you reached out to the company about it.
@ yeah , it happened yesterday when I put 450 rounds through it. So far I haven’t gotten a response from them. I’m not sure if they will replace it because everytime I went to the website that’s in the book for the sight to try to fill out the warranty it kept telling me that error 404 is found. And wouldn’t let me fill out the warranty for it. When I click the link it sends me to an email and of course… they never responded to it. That was on Nov 2nd when I sent the email about not being able to fill it out. And haven’t gotten a response from them at all.
@ okay, so I just got off the phone with them. They hadn’t responded to email. They said they’ll send me a shipping label for it and to send it to them so they can inspect it and then they’ll replace it. They said the warranty website in the book doesn’t work because it’s not required for the optic and that Johnathan will be sending me an email shortly so that I can ship to them.
@ good! Let me know how it goes. I’m very interested to hear how their customer service and turn around is.
@ will do!
The gun cost $349-$569
@@ci8158 if you’re paying that much you’re getting robbed. $189 for this one. And it’s not even worth that much.
What I see is patina and character. I have 3 Roberts rifles and have been looking for one in that conditions. Imagine the hunting stories it could tell.

@@Evan-t1b what are you talking about?
@@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 PA-10's come with the rubberized grip flush with the lower. You should not be seeing any other gun parts or internal components. Even on the BLEM model I did not see this
Fat, drunk and stupid is really no way to go though life
Why is your slide getting stuck whenever you hit the slide release? Is this because of the suppressor on it ?
One of the issues with the MP 5.7. Until it is well broke in, it kinda struggles when the mag is full. That issue has seemed to resolve itself with time.
@ thats good to hear thanks for the reply !
You bet. Storing the mags loaded full helped a lot. I think the spring is just a little too strong.
@ thanks this gun is definitely on my bucket list
@ you won’t be disappointed
.44 Special ? Absolutely
I have bought several completed upper builds from Delta Team Tactical and so far I have had any problems with any of them
Change the Tiger High hat .lol Go Big Orange.
I have no idea what any of this means
Seems like it’d be very close ballistically to a 300 blackout at those ranges and similar length barrel. Nice job on the video. Keep up the quality content.
@@cancermonkey7334 thank you. You’d probably be surprised, but it’s carrying similar energy to a 30-30 from that 12.5” barrel.
@@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 I did some research between 30.30, 300BLK and 7.62x39 before I bought my last AR. All 3 were very close from what I researched. I went with the X39 option due to SHTF, normal availability, price and ballistics. Lots of people in Texas use them on hogs. And I have found several decent ammo choices at decent prices, including the Sabre Black tip with steel case. So far I’ve been very happy with my decision. I Figure I can get a deer or hog under 200 yards pretty reliably with this option. 6.5 Grendel is the next upper I wanna get. Looking at a BCA side charger with a 20” barrel or possibly a bit longer. Ballistically, it’s supposed to be fairly similar to .243 Win. Heavier, but slower; and penetration seems to be almost the same.
I just built a 7.62x39 and I have the Sabre blade steel case that I will be doing a test video on just like this one.
Congratulations on the deer. Pa is 3 up in some area other area is 3 up no browntine counted . As of 6.5 Grendel hard beat as a deer woods gun.
Western Oregon buck tag is visibly antler.
e everyone has opions some knowledgeable, some useless armchair ear to ear experience. i go with proven knowledge and experience. you proved what you say ,that i trust . as a reloader of 45years experience and knowledge of many, many calibers and firearms that bullet at reasonable distances definitely would be a deer killing peace of plunder. i greatly enjoyed your video. Papa wishing you well 😊
Thank you very much I appreciate it!
Some rubber inserts will stop your handguard from ringing. Also try some fouling shots when switching ammo from brand to brand septic they use different projectiles.
Seems like a set of rubber grips may tame this beast a bit
@@timjohnson8390 I have hogue grips for it and it does make a tremendous difference. But they are bulky and ugly and I may be a little sick in the head but I kinda like the recoil.
@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 I love big bore handguns and revolvers as well. The recoil is the fun part, I just meant to hang onto it better where the thumb release doesn't bite your knuckle
@ I’m usually good. It only gets me sometimes. It’s a good reminder to have a good grip on it.
Had one ,it’s a real beast, especially in door ranges It’s a bomb blast ,going off😂😂😂
That gun isn't in rough shape it's just got character
@@coltonswicegood6084 no this is beyond character into full on neglect.
270 for real hunters... 6.5 was designed as a marketing plot...
Actually the 6.5 was designed for target shooting. Either way it is a very capable hunting round. If you don’t realize that, you may be a fudd. This video was just it point out that some of the claims of its abilities are over stated.
