I've heard the whole cheater vs hacker word usage. Personally I'm of the opinion that words have context. In online gaming a "hacker" has always meant cheater. As someone from Australia who grew up on government benefits since we were poor, I always felt like a loser even accepting them when I needed them. How these people live off them happily, with their victim attitude and never make any attempt at genuine change in their life is mind boggling.

I don't have anyone to play with because my real friends have better things to do and I cant convince them to suffer. If I could match make to some degree with any certainty my immediate team mate wasn't just going to off me and jack my gear maybe I wouldn't have to play alone. But those are big ideas, not of the mindset these guys can pull off without some serious migraines. But hey, I can put posters and Christmas trees up in my lonely hovel now, because priorities! ESP is used by so many people it's not even funny. I've been gaming since Team Fortress Classic was released back in the day. I have never seen as many cheaters as I do today and it's not just EFT. If anyone ever develops a game that can keep cheaters to a very small number of players I will definitely play that game. However, the way things are right now it is not worth my time to even play PVP games.

Making cheats is not illegal in any countries as far as i know, maybe china. What's illegal is using company property without consent. But anyone can make a macro script and distribute it with no problems, which depending on the game could be considered cheating and give you a huge advantage.
