This scene makes a brilliant point about how we tend to hide our true selves in order to fit in rather than expressing our greatness at all times.

      It literally is not correct. Only schmucks who believe in magic - believe in this kind of selling bull-poop. Get a good book on selling and be amazed - might I suggest Spin Selling or something similar.

    You need to be able to fire people to be management. Some people don't fit, some people are misplaced and some are just wrong. But if you can't fire someone, people will look at you p*ssy and walk all over you.

    Powerful. This is the scene that separates Rocky from all other sports movies. So many movies are about believing in yourself and then proving yourself to the world by winning. Rocky just wants to prove something to himself.....that he can go the distance and that he's not a bum. It's heart breaking. The audience already knows what special guy he is....but Rocky doesn't. He will take unbelievable punishment just to win a small victory for himself.

    Love all the relatable little anecdotes, but can I point out that trading ≠ firing? Dude still has a job. Glad you guys are lulling yourself to sleep at night with a movie though.

    The bit I always struggle to wrap my head around is the fact that he was traded to the Tigers, which means he has to up and move from San Francisco to Detroit. If he's got a wife, she has to quit her job. If he's got kids, they have to move schools. His entire life is upended in five seconds.

    These men work in an industry where trade is a very real possibility. Most professional athletes do not put down roots they cant pull up quickly. Does baseball even have a no trade clause?

    • @Adeyemiii
      @Adeyemiii 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Late response, but yes baseball players can get no-trade clauses. A few players have them now.

    You know, the phones was my life for 15 years. The problem is he is right. You can push past human instinct and get people to work against their own best interest. It’s when the desperation of the caller exceeds the desperation of the receiver.

    This doesn't work well for smaller businesses where you know your employees well. And the other employees will judge you based on how you treat your employees.

    • @kwark1223
      @kwark1223 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I fully disagree. This works at all levels - I’ve had to do this twice in my business. It’s not easy and it was very uncomfortable - I had strong personal relationships with both the employees I fired. But it has to be done and a straight conversation was very effective for me. The rest of the employees knew the writing was on the wall, and I met with them each individually to reassure them.

    • @steve-on3234
      @steve-on3234 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kwark1223 I didn't say i hadn't fired people. And that i could not do it effectively. I have and do. But, I don't tell them in 5 seconds, come in, your fired, and bye, or other employees will find out and think that is harsh. Still, like I originally said, some of your employees will still judge you. Not every employee is going to be in agreement that the "writing was on the wall". If you think that is a universal thing that all your employees will be ok you fired someone, then you have not run a business with a lot of employees. i have. i have 50 employees.

    Wish Dell had been that direct with me back in 2001. A-holes tricked me into flying 2000 miles because I was needed at a "meeting". Once I got there, all of a sudden I was asked to go into an office, my boss walks in, and lets me go.

  • @billswindle8311

    Most important scene of the movie. Avildsen wanted to cut it from the movie because of the extremely low budget, but Stallone insisted, so they agreed that it would remain in the film if they could get it done in one take. So Stallone got hammered drunk before filming, and Talia Shire and him nailed it.
