Dollhouse Tour: The Becker House, a boarding house in the 1930's
มุมมอง 6K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Becker House dollhouse was my Laurel School senior project. My Dad, Ray, and I built it in his basement workshop in 1973. The design was modeled from a Victorian house in New York. It sat vacant as I raised my family. It required restoration as the roof molded and my cats had explored it and chewed the corners. The roof was re-shingled; my friend, Diane helped mix the slate paint colors. My...

Following the Battle of Antietam, Abraham Lincoln came to Maryland to review the army, including the garrisons on the mountain. He began the ascent, but because of the steepness of the slope, turned around halfway up, concluding any man who could make the climb would pass his muster. "Now the dogs are barking..." Hi Mike, I don't know if you'll see this, but I revisited your video. I am comparing Jim's journal with "Liberator Men of Old Buc," edited by Andy Low. It is an exhaustive history of the 453rd Bomb Group and both are helping me write a historical novel of my father's experience, and Jim Chiancone plays a prominent role in my book as do the other members of the crew. Sadly, I did not do a sufficient job quizzing my father on his experience decades earlier when his memory was more clear; he passed a month short of his 90th birthday in 2011 . . . and his long and productive life always makes me think of the other guys in the crew and those lives cut so tragically short. I also met Sgt. John "Red" Melvin (who was their nose gunner) up in the Seattle/Tacoma area back in 2004 and gained valuable insight from him as well. If you have any additional information about Jim's WW II experience, I would be very grateful to include it in my book. If you do read this, please pass along my regards to Jim's family. Truly, the Greatest Generation. <3

Gorgeous house! I really enjoyed your video. I have a similar house but it's built into a cabinet. Most of my furniture is antique Strombecker. (We share a few of the same pieces)! My dolls are vintage Caco from the 1940s-1960s. A lot of my accessories are vintage pot metal Cracker Jack prizes. I framed postage stamps from the 1938 World's Fair as artwork. I made all the curtains, drapes and bedding myself. I hired out other artists to crochet miniature doilies for the backs of chairs and to scatter on dressers and such. I wish I could send you pics, I know you'd love it! Thanks for making my day with your exquisite house.

I am glad you guys got Lee's Retreat route map correct in the Video. I saw one in Farmville, VA that was full of errors and not based on the history of the time. I grew up on River Road, Rt. 36 in Southern Chesterfield County and one of the main retreat routes went directly past our family home. In fact, in 1965, reenactors on horseback and in wagons went past our house in April, to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the retreat from Petersburg. I was 5 years old but remember it well.
