    As Italian, I feel sad because I think Sicilian people deserve better than this, they deserve a bridge like they did in Turkey. But for some reasons, the Italian government wants to keep Sicily poor and underdeveloped. Also trains in Sicily are quite shitty for the same reason.

      Baltu Lielkungs Gunārs Miezis Messina Strait is 3 Km wide and it is generated by a tectonic fault. You can build a bridge but is a challenge at limits of actual technology and it will cost an insane amount of money. It could be compensated by the fact the building yard will absorbe entire production of steel in Italy for the next 5 years improving economy, but it unsure if the bridge will last 100 years or even lesser amount of time due the continuous earthquakes. Also any bridge will be interdicted to traffic 100 days out 365 days in one year, due to high speed winds at more than 100Km/h that will made it impracticable during several days in winter and during any violent storm it could occur, fact that will still had required ferry boats operate in these days of wind, resulting keeping active ferrys too. This fact will result in a parallel loss of money for keeping active the ferries that will drain the bridge renevues. Furthermore Bridge will also being an ecologic monster covering with its shadow 8/12 hours during daylight heritage lakes present in the Sicilian side of the Strait that are a sanctuary for the migrating birds and that were already endangered by human activities of City of Messina and hundreds houses keeping them darkened by its shadow, making these houses loosing their prices. So in the end the Bridge is a ugly mess solution. Only tycoon Silvio Berlusconi wanted the Bridge because he was (still is) a megalomaniac and he wanted to be remembered forever in history as the "man who built the bridge" and made Italian State loosing tenths of milliards Euro in preliminary studies for building it and spending lots of money in useless ancilliary works in order to prepare the big challenge. He made Italy sign officially for engaging a preliminary building contract, and nowadays the firms that signed the contract asked money back from Italy, including accessory economic damages for the rescission of the contract. 🙄🤦

      A bridge in an extremely active Geological area would be most unwise

    • @raffaeleirlanda6966
      @raffaeleirlanda6966 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nirmala Singh Japanese built Akashi Bridge long 3900 meters (almost 4 Km) and with a central span of 1990 meters (just less than 2 Km) and it sustained major Earthquake of 6,8 Richter moving 1 meter from its previous site without damages. Bridge on the Strait of Messina should be long 5000 meters including the ramps and with a span of 3200 meters between the two pylons 300 meters high. Strait is right on a geological fault between Africa and Europe. In 1908 there was an Earthquake there of 7,2 degrees Richter and a Tsunami of 13 meters high. 100.000 died. My family lost my mom grand grandparents in that catastrophe. Building a bridge there is a challenge at limits of actual technology and also at limits of materials built by human race, and it will be sure a spectacular masterpiece of engineering but in my eyes it is just an ecology monster... 🤔
