Killer Instinct Fatal-X redux
My Excalibur Suppressor 400TD had a limb break so I decided to see if I could remedy the arrow/string issue with the Fatal X. Here is the range "report".

Killer Instinct Fatal-X Rail Issue Part 2
มุมมอง 5Kปีที่แล้ว
I sent the bow to KI after hounding them to do something. Something to consider is shipping costs. If you live in Canada you have to ship the bow back to the US for any repairs which is costly and accounted in this case for a substantial percentage of the cost of the bow. Sorry audio is low :(
Killer Instinct Fatal X 405 Rail Issue
มุมมอง 3.5Kปีที่แล้ว
This is a new crossbow from Cabelas. Right out of the box the arrow never lay in the rail properly. In addition the cable serving became very frayed in less than a couple dozen shots.
I'm not an expert by no means but by just standards of firearm safety you're putting yourself in a very dangerous position one loaded two cocked just seems like bad bad place to be when you're already thinking there's something wrong with it
what scope do you have on that?
Bought the lethal 405 , it came from the factory riser cracked ... I tried calling the number provided in the box to make a warranty claim & it's a non working number ... So I contacted Sportsman's Warehouse who I bought it from & gonna get a refund through them on it , what's a limited lifetime warranty if you can't even get up with the manufacturer if they don't have a working phone 😂... That company is 💩
I saw this in my fatal x I still sited it in no problems. I kill dear within 40 yards. 4 inch groups. One bolt hits bullseye everytime. Thats my hunting bolt.
Really? Gonna stand in front of a cocked crossbow with a bolt in it. God what a moron.
Just picked up the vital x for first crossbow. Been compounds and rifles all life. So far liking this bow.
Like looking down the barrel of a loaded rifle.

I wouldn’t be standing in front of a cocked
I have a Barnett Ghost 360 that does the same thing in the middle of the rail but it shoots fine ! Have killed several nice deer with it so I will keep shooting the crossbow as long as it holds up.
These bows only last about 10 years
Your comparing a 300.00 bow to a 1000.00 bow
Almost all crossbows do that it’s normal
What serving did you use and any way you could make a video on how to do this fix for the fatal x im having same issue.
Mine is exactly the same but it's dead accurate plus my serving string came off but it had 2 serving strings on it so I'm still shooting it till the second string comes off
Take the headstock off and knock a bolt in. youll see that its perfectly flat until you install the limb assembly and torque the headbolt down. Keep working the areas that the rail fits with a file until it no longer bends it when its tightened. Took me several tries back and forth apart and together but it now out performs my buddys ravin at 40 and 50. Outside of 50 the ravin is a bit tighter still.
Easy fix, the top rail is free floating. It was not milled short enough. When the head bolt is tightened it outs pressure on the end of the top rail. Bending it almost .020. I filed the end of the rail down. And also filed the relief area where the top of the rail fits. Mine is perfectly flat now when cocked and mine also had the arrow pointing up. It shot fine the way it was bit the group is much tighter now.
Mine is more accurate and reliable than I could want or expect.
Ijust bought this xbow and mine does the same thing and its higher off the rail on the end than yours. Not very impressed with KI and will not reccomend any of their equipment for purchase. It appears it would do no good to contact them about the issue either since they do not totally fix the problem. Basically a hunting season shot to hell because of poor craftsmanship. I also write a few articles and believe me, I WILL let the consumers know all about this company and the poor quality of their equipment. Never ever should a piece of faulty equipment leave the factory with these issues....ever!
The bow has potential, but I am not impressed with the "warranty" or the issues I am having with the cable serving. In contrast my Excalibur experiences with warranty have been a pleasure. Still though the Excalibur bow has it's own issues.
I just bought this xbow and have the same issue. The bolt doesn't lay level and flush on the rail. what is the fix for this issue? I dont see where the brush is cockingb the end of the bolt up in the air and off the rail. It looks to be somewhere back un the nock area thats causing this and it's inaccurate as hell because of it. What's the fix?
I found the fix to be increasing the serving diameter. Increasing the diameter, for me, eliminated the left/right offset of the arrow. It did however remain raised off the rail for the last few inches past the cables. I doubt there is much you can do about that. The factory serving seems to interface the nock lower that the middle of the nock causing the arrow to rise a bit. I just added a layer of crown serving over top of the factory serving.
I know you're not standing in front of that xbow
Again standing if front of a loaded cocked x bow? Keep messing with it and see if it goes off.
There is no point when I am in front of the bow.
It is not cocked
Why would you stand in front of a loaded and cocked cross bow ? Never
There is no point when I am in front of the bow.
I was going try get swat x on sale 799 then discount 699 but couldn't get it to take. Anyway saved all summer in xbow fund you think person should get a fatal x, save little more get swat x or trusty mart of walls and bust out center point 425 patriot, barnett 380 crank included
I keep hearing about people breaking limbs with Excalibur. What the hell is that about?
My Barnett raptor fx2 is the same way. It shoots fletch rippers at 45 yards and I have harvested 4 deer with it ranging from 25-43 yards without issue. I always thought it was my victory bolts because one of the three always sat flat and the other two did what yours did. But it didn’t effect my accuracy. So I just stopped worrying about it.
The issue I had was they were not only not laying flat, but were off to one side and were not consistent in how they lay. Increasing the string diameter removed the side to side movement and the arrow lays the same way each time now. In my other vid you can see the "fix" and the great accuracy(my opinion).
They should of sent you a new bow
I have been shooting that crossbow since before It was released and I absolutely love it. I am six foot four I have the but stock extended all the way out, And it fits me perfectly. However, I do like to have my arms tight to my body. It gives me more stability.,, I keep my scope mounted forward. This way I still have the proper I relieve, I have added string stops to it and it makes it considerably more quiet,, And I also shoot 500 grains, bolt and Broadhead. My bolts for this crossbow is the hypr lite bolt, which I rebuilt by adding insert weight to it, bringing it up to 350 grains. And a 150 grain Broadhead. My Broadhead of choice is the Ozcut hurricane 3 blade? And the oz cut 2 blade elite also 150 grains. Out of my sweat X1I shoot the tooth of the arrow solid 150 grain. With the killer instinct hyper k e bolt three hundred and fifty grains,, Total weight 500 grains. It's just AKE bolt doesn't need any added weight to it. It's 350 grains +/- out the package,, I do extensive testing on both of these crossbows, including, but not limited to 25 to 50 shots per day. I have had to replace the strings on both twice each.. If you want photos of these, please send me a message and I will respond with a number probably to your Messenger so also attach your Facebook address.
My current arrow weight with 150gr heads is about 460grs. I tried adding 50gr weights to the back of the inserts to increase the weight which worked for a few arrows, but it seems that the inserts they used were not the same in dimensions other than weight. Some were to shallow in the insert threads and when the weight was added the points/broadheads would not thread in deep enough as they would hit the weight threaded in from the back. I tried removing the inserts, but were taking more heat than I was comfortable with using and decided to leave them in. How did you remove them?
@kernelsamba I use heat but I use it in increments. I heat it 30 seconds, attempt to pull. Heated another 15 seconds attempt to pull. And after that, 5 second increments. Until it pulls out.,, I do keep a field point screwed in and heat the tip of the field point only until it Heats the insert that melts the glue.
Ok thanks, I'll give that a go.
@@kernelsamba I used one of those small butane torches that you can get for camping from home. Depot or Walmart, you can use a candle. It takes it a little longer, but until you get a little more experience with it. If you're not used to it, the candle is definitely a good route to Go.
The brushes need to wear down. I don't really like the system. Its the same on the 405 bone collector. The arrow doesn't sit flush but it is what it is for 165.00
I think that would help. I did take a look and try to remove it to if it would make a difference, but couldn't get it out. The serving/string diameter seems to be the main culprit as it is too narrow and engages the nock low causing pressure downwards which raises the tip.
How in the world did you break an x-caliber lim they say they are the strongest Limbs and they never break they say they are the four-wheel-drive of crossbows how did that happen
I was shooting in the basement as I sometimes do and had the bow cocked(unloaded) while I went to pull the arrow from the target when I heard a loud pop. I turned around and saw the bow with a limp limb on one side. It had split in the middle near the bolt. Warranty sent me new limbs in three days. Not bad, but leaves me a little concerned. I've only shot arrows of 450gr or more out of the bow and never been dry fired, so.. not sure what the issues was.
That what kind of warranty is that supposed to have a lifetime warranty the guy ships the Bolin he gets back of Riser that's been used in all chipped up in my opinion for the money you spent for that crossbow that's not acceptable that's bad business
I agree. Not to mention you have to have the bow inspected by an approved dealer every 3 years to maintain the warranty. Mine happens to be a hour drive away too.
Well I think u answered my question . Off to mart of walls it is. Barnett 380 masher basher maker taker whatever there calling um 300 or less on coins. I wreckon if it's a reckon won't be out horribly bad.
Dude, how does it shoot? Are you getting bad groups? The slight play on the riser is not a problem if you shots are consistent.
There was more than slight play on the riser unfortunately. It rose up and to the left. I recently revisited the issue and found the string diameter was to narrow causing the issue. It still has a hump and the arrow rises, but it is consistent now. Here is the follow up video th-cam.com/video/76A4K_FkJmE/w-d-xo.html
Hmm? Quite interesting, I have the 380 and love it! Killed 5 good bucks with it. Bet it’s something simple? But ya, probably easiest and best to send it back?
I did send it back and they did some work, but unfortunately the issue remains. See my follow up video. Costs a good bit of cash to ship it for warranty as well. It's up for sale now :( th-cam.com/video/jHh2oGYfjO8/w-d-xo.html
I am extremely disappointed with this crossbow and the rail issue. I sent it back to cabelas, and it will take 8 weeks to get a refund. Rubbish to say the least
They take your money on the spot, if it's defective should get it money on the spot or a new one, if don't have in stock it's fine give back the coins
If a mechanic changes my headlights I'm cautious of everything.. damn if I'll stand I front of a crossbow jiggling things . I count my money at the atm or bank when I withdraw I damn sure won't stand in front of that and jiggle shit 🙃 it's not centered but at the same time thats more reason don't stand at the front while cocked back
Please see reply to other comments.
@@kernelsambaplease see to his hands in the video
Just purchased this crossbow, and it wouldn't shoot a bolt straight for nothing. It got boxed back up and sent back. Next, Centerpoint wrath 430. Heard and seen nothing but positive things about the crossbow
Mine is on it's way back from warranty. It will be interesting to see what if anything was done. I too have heard good things about the 430. That may be what I look at next as well.
@@kernelsamba it's a toss up between the 430 and the CP400 which centerpoint now has for forty-percent off
I don't think they are offering the sale in Canada :(
Is your bolt straight? Check out my bolt stabiliser on here that I make & sell on eBay
Wow why in the world would he be standing right in front of that crossbow and it cocked and ready to go I used to have a crossbow Killer Instinct in the safety tickets go off and shoot right through him any minute the safety I had on mine was garbage there's no way I would stand in front of that crossbow loaded I wouldn't stand in front of any crossbow loaded that's crazy
You do understand how cameras work right?
@kernelsamba you understand the angle of hid hands he was infront of it... Ron white said it best you can't fix it
I just bought one of these bows and seeing what you are seeing. I believe it has to do with the brushes that hold the bolt into place. You as well as myself might have to shorten those brisels down a bit. You might want to make another video on how to do that. Thanks for sharing. And good luck. I will be watching.
That is what I thought when I first noticed it. Unfortunately even before the arrow engages the brushes it is rising off the rail. If you put pressure at the nock end as you slide the arrow back it begins to rise the further it goes towards the trigger.
Never stand in front of a cocked crossbow. That is a no no. The trigger can fail. Are you a newbie to crossbows.
Nothing was in front of the arrow other than a wall. Bow was on a bench with no way of being in front of it. The camera is not an indication of where I was standing, my hand never came in front of the arrow. Just an effect of the perspective of the camera.
