Should You Get The Duo or The Duo 2 in 2022?
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In another experience vlog video I talk about the reasons the Duo is the better buy in 2022. It's mostly due to price, but also the convenience of the device. I ignored topics like the camera except for complaining about the bump on Duo 2. The camera sucks on both. Foldables even for Samsung account for less than 1% of the market share. There's much a showpiece to get some free earned media as they are a fight to sell devices. Nobody buys them, but a lot of people watch videos and read about them. It's just earned media.

    One of the first things I do when I get a new android phone to also increase responsiveness is to enable developer options(tap many times on build number in about phone until a message mentions being a developer) and look for Window animation scale, Transition scale, and Animator duration scale and set those to off. That should make your phone feel much snappier as well.

    Talking too much for no reason, idiot. just go to settings, apps, show system apps , system UI, battery, and change it from optimized to unrestricted That's it for both Microsoft duo and duo 2

    . The clue, was at "Windows Central". It discussed one fix by another youtuber, which helped, but was not enough. So these are my fixes. You will want to check all these settings, to boost performance: FIRST, do these fixes to further disable the crippling "battery optimization" for the specific system apps listed below: Instructions... Goto : Settings/Apps/See all apps... Then click upper-right "three dot" symbol, to select "show system". Now scroll down this larger app list, and select each of these apps listed, to go in and click "unrestricted" battery. So Goto into each app, scroll down to click "battery", then select "Unrestricted"... You may find that many of these apps are already set properly, as we been thru about 3 updates since I first compiled this list, from my testing and research, so this is not copied second hand. I have a Duo 2 so if you have duo1, just disregard the number "2" in same apps listed apps below. I decided to separate each app with a line of space for easier viewing, since this website incorrectly Bunches my list into one paragraph. Do it for all these apps: ******** *3 Button navigation bar. *Android system. *Android setup. *Android shared library. *Android overlay common. *Android overlay surface common. *Android overlay surface dsm. *Android overlay target. *battery Smart Charging (reduces delay when plugged in). *Com Android Localtransport. *Com Android Phone Overlay Common. *Com android sharedstoragebackup. *Com android systemui overlay common. *Com Microsoft surface android overlay. *Com Microsoft surface android phone overlay. *com.microsoft.surface.appmanager.overlay (for helping touch response). *Com Microsoft surface duo v1 overlay. *Com Microsoft surface duo2 shell overlay. *Com Microsoft surface launcher overlay duo. *Com Microsoft surface navigationui overlay. *Com.Microsoft.surface.shell.SurfaceSystemShellApp (for helping touch response). *Com Microsoft surface systemui overlay common. *Com Microsoft surface duo2 systemui overlay. *Com Microsoft surface launcher overlay duo2. *Com Microsoft surface navigationui overlay. *Com Microsoft surface secondaryhome overlay. *Com Microsoft surface tethering overlay common. **Launcher Configurator ( also disable background data). **Microsoft Launcher (battery Unrestricted is big improvement overall, but also need to goto data, and "turn off slider" for "Background data", so there's no "Unrestricted data usage". Remember to clear the "cache" only NOT the storage). Also, scroll down this app's settings to "display over other apps", and select it(!). **Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard (for keyboard delays). *Permission controller. *Remote tasks system shell. *Storage manager. *Surface. *Surface Sensor (rotation delays). *Surface paidevjceconfig. *Surface quickstep. *SurfaceSecondaryHome. **System UI ( more improvement overall ). Now that you finished disabling the crippling battery optimization on these important system apps, you will move onto the next optimization for this phone in the "developer settings". ****** Developer Options settings *** You must first activate access to these developer settings. Goto : Settings /About /Build number. Press "Build number" about seven times, until you see the message, "You are now a developer!" Then, goto settings/system/Developer options, and change these settings : Carefully Scroll down without changing anything but these settings: **Stay awake ( slider on. Makes lock screen simulate an "always on" display when plugged in. Helps delay of turn on) **WebView implementation = Make sure it says "Android System WebView" (you can streamline performance here, by uninstalling all the updates of this "webview" app, to stock version, for fastest response. Reduce Battery drain also, BUT remember to keep this app installed and running. Disabling this app will cause errors, so you must have it. ) **Logger buffer sizes = (optional) select "1M per log buffer" (helps from freezing up) **Graphics Driver Preferences = Click on every app in this list. Switch from "Default", to "system graphics driver". Takes load off cpu if app not call for it.. Do not leave any app on the "default" setting. Speeds up openings apps faster.) **Wi-Fi scan throttling = (slider on, increases battery ) **Mobile data always active = (slider on, optional. Better data response, Slight battery hit) **Tethering hardware acceleration = (slider on for acceleration) **Enable Gabeldorsche = (optional..slider on, more reliable Bluetooth, over the older default) **Show taps = (optional...slider on, adds visual verification of all your screen pressing ) Animation: ** Windows animation scale: Increase animation speed by reducing time ( to . 5x or just turn off!) : **Transition animation scale = (. 5x, or turn off) **Animator duration scale = (. 5x, or turn off) **Background process limit = this setting likes to default to standard.. Select "At most 4 processes" to retain more available memory) **Enable freeform windows = (Optional. Effects Depends on app. I left it disabled, so no possible issues. **Max requests per session = increase number any amount over 10, to 25 (this tip from another youtuber.) Thats it. Now do a restart of your phone. Should work much better now. Goodluck!

    That's Not Ricardio, I feel this video has problems. Blah, blah, blah, but I fixed it. Just skip this video entirely, if you have no touch issues (SD2 touch works great for me, for example). Or go to 6:30 when he gets to his point, which might help some people. In other words, scripting isn't always bad. A little bit of scripting, to help you focus, would make your videos better in my opinion.

      Yeah I noticed I don't have the option for battery optimization on my Surface Duo 2. On my Surface it has Apps and Notifications separated rather than together. That being said when I went to the Microsoft Launcher settings, then clicked on battery, then clicked unrestricted, holy crap I immediately noticed a difference. Damn it is so immediate before I even exited the settings app I noticed a difference!

    I jumped on the Duo wagon last week too. But it only lasted 5 days until I sent it back and got myself a Pixel. The experience was suuuper laggy and slow. I guess the Duo 2 would have been a better option but I hate that it's not lying flat...

    Jumping on the Duo band wagon . For now, testing the waters and the limited intentions I have for it. First Gen : price and simpler is better. ...get a z fold ( older gen ) save $ , have both form factors . Then, there is software. With the folding/ 2 screen device phenomenon, ALL the apps need to adjust to play nicely with your device or you will be let down. So, until things catch up or adapt or evolve to an optimal level....." this is a test just a test " ....experiment and experience .

    I bought duo 1 128gb new for $290. But when I'm at home, I still use mostly my old phone 95% of the time because my old phone has a thick phone case. With the duo 1 there isn't a good protective case (I have OtterBox but it's a pouch case) and I'm scared of dropping it. I dropped my old phone many times already and still no cracks. When I go out, I rarely use the duo 1 either. It's always in my pocket in my otterbox. I answer calls, texts, and navigation with my Samsung Galaxy smart watch 4. Main reason is also I'm afraid to drop it and it's bulky. Unless I'm sitting down bored and want to consume content fast, then the duo is out hopefully on a table for a short drop it it does slip out of my hands.

But after I did do this, I also went back in and cleared Cashe in the Microsoft and Launcher3 apps and now my duo 2's touch and scrolling response is as good as my S22 Ultra's. I went back and re-Optimized the apps referred to in this video and the issue has not reoccurred... still excellent touch response. Interesting how these fixes differ from user to user??

I've clearly adapted to the lag. Just changing the orientation took like 1 or 2 second before the fix and like half a seconds after the fix. I'll have to wait and see if it affects battery life in the long run though.

    My duo 1 certainly wasn't as snappy as a pixel or something, but it didn't have nearly as much frustration with the touch response as you did. In terms of gesture accuracy, I have really no problems at all. Now the typing is more problematic especially with SwiftKey, although I use voice typing most of the time so maybe that's why I don't get frustrated as much. I guess I should note though that it's never been my main phone, so maybe that's why some of it's more pressing issues don't become as apperent. But when I saw your montage of missed gestures and so on, I was curious. So I turned my surface duo back on and fiddled around with it and I just don't have the same issues. My bigger complaint about the device is just how limited the launcher is with no customized icons or resizing the app grid. If it had feature parity with the Microsoft launcher that I can use on an LG or a pixel phone I would be much happier.

    • @michael_c2
      @michael_c2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of that said, I will fiddle with the battery optimization to see if anything changes for the better. Although I'm a little worried about battery as the standby battery has been dreadful The last few months. Although I don't know if this fix is applicable to both versions of the phone.

      Both my Duo's do it and after fixing it, I have almost no issues. Slight here and there but nothing on the level of what I was having. Scrolling through my songs on apple music would lag so far behind my finger swipes. It would slow down so much. Now the device flies through the list.

  • @TheLinkhawkins
    @TheLinkhawkins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do not understand the issues you were having. Trying this anyway to see if there was a problem I didn't notice.

    • @thatsnotricardio4199
      @thatsnotricardio4199 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just missed gestures and swipes when using the phone with speed. If I slowed down and was more deliberate and very very slow there would be no issues. I am pretty quick on the phone and had so many miss swipes and gestures. sometimes dragging items from the app drawer to the home screen wouldn't work because the phone would just stop tracking my finger. If I slowed down it worked, but this isn't a problem on Samsung phones or on iPhones. I did record this two weeks ago and since then I have tested further, and you don't need to add the keyboard and launcher as do not optimize apps. Just do system UI. The launcher is what was causing my excess battery drain. I am back to a pretty normal, for me at least, Screen on Time of 5 to 6 hours. About 8 hours if i am simply watching videos and not interacting with the device which was better than before. I watched two full movies and a bunch of Mythic Quest a couple weeks ago before I got his with the 5% warning. I was intentionally pushing it to see what it would do and it didn't disappoint. Edit:another really annoying thing was when scrolling through large files, the scrolling speed would not match the speed of your finger. It would lag wayy behind. And stopping would incur a lag. In my other short you can see the phone stops on a dime. I'm currently working on a video on the effects of this on the Duo 1.

  • @JustXavier

    Yooooo!!!! This WORKED. Literally just tried it and I IMMEDIATELY saw responsiveness pick up. Even before I restarted the phone. Gonna have to wait to see what longtime usage looks like but so far…it’s lovely.

    • @thatsnotricardio4199
      @thatsnotricardio4199 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've now been doing it for two weeks and you don't need the launcher and keyboard on the list. I went back to getting 5 to 5 1/2 hour screen on by removing them and simply only adding system ui to the not optimized list.
