Charlie's Dementia Journey
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 มี.ค. 2022
*Update*
I am Chellie Grossman, a certified Life Coach, public speaker and writer.
This channel was about Charlie, my best friend who was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia.
We shared what it was like for him to be going through this diagnosis and I shared the view of a friend, family member/ caregiver. It was our intention to offer insight and awareness into the day to day challenges and joys.
Charlie got a lot better after one year.
He had support, love and got out of his home daily. He engaged in an activity he loved (the saxophone). Somehow support, love and music shifted a lot for him. Now he smiles and laughs daily.
We will keep this channel up but it will not be monitored. I hope it brings you hope, peace and knowledge. May each of you be wrapped in love and compassion as you move through your own journey.
PLEASE CHECK OUT THE LINKS BELOW about my writing and workshop! Your support would be very meaningful. :)
Much Gratitude,
Chellie

Happy Chanukah 🕎
มุมมอง 192ปีที่แล้ว
Chanukah is the celebration of light over darkness. It is another miracle the Jewish people encountered and one we recall yearly. We celebrate by lighting the menorah. By sharing food with fiends and family (donuts and other fried food) and by being a light in the world. Happy Chanukah to you.

Today Charlie shares about one of his favorite saxophonists Stan Getz Stan Getz Stanley Getz (February 2, 1927 - June 6, 1991) was an American jazz saxophonist. Playing primarily the tenor saxophone, Getz was known as "The Sound" because of his warm, lyrical tone, with his prime influence being the wispy, mellow timbre of his idol, Lester Young. Coming to prominence in the late 1940s with Woody...
Lewy Body Dementia and Alzheimers: Connection Matters

Connection Matters. Sometimes it is the physical connection to another human that we need. Sometimes it is a connection to our spirituality that needs nurturing. AISH TORAH PARTNERS has been able to connect us with partners who become friends that stoke spiritual enlightenment, learning and curiosity. This connection is invaluable and has helped Charlie and myself in countless ways.
Lewy Body Dementia and Alzheimers: shifting feelings of regret
มุมมอง 6082 ปีที่แล้ว
A year ago I asked Charlie about regrets. His only regret was not following through with a professional music career. I can’t change that but I was able to help him shift his feelings of regret. I had his Mark VI Sax 🎷 refurbished and now he takes weekly lessons from a professional musician. He also has been invited into a sax trio!!! This his has been a huge life change for him and has helped ...

Lewy Body Dementia and Alzheimers: Reaching my limit with doctors visits
มุมมอง 1.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Charlie is reaching his frustration level at going to doctors. When living with a complicated medical history, sometimes it feels like every day is spent going to doctors or testing. Wow I have immune problems so I’m in pain I haven’t told anyone about my hallucinations and hearing bands
I hear the band playing like intro eye of tiger America is beautiful church gyms or broadcast I also have hallucinations
I’m dealing with this I’m 43
Thank you for sharing. My husband has just been diagnosed with mild to moderate LBD and I was not informed that hallucinations could be auditory as well as visual by his neurologist! May God bless you!
Thank you for sharing very helpful 💓
I know this feeling
Thank you 👍
My has auditory and visual, but she has delusion, and she thinks real, and she is unable to acknowledge she has anything wrong
Maybe God is building a beautiful testimony in you. 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you so much for posting this. Im the main carer for my elderly dad who suffers from Lewy Body and Alzheimer’s. He gets visual hallucinations which are so real to him. He holds full on conversations with the people he sees. He has daily auditory ones too believing neighbours have left their tv/radio on really loud or that people are arguing in the garden…despite it being very early hours of the morning. He gets annoyed though as it disturbs his sleep something terrible. Listening to your story has lifted my spirits TFS🙏
My mom heard Old Man River over and over.
Thank you so much for the information
My husband has PTSD (military service connected) and recently diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinsonism. He is only 51 y.o. I'm so scared... mainly because I don't know if I can handle all the changes and if I'm able to stay strong for both of us. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us - much appreciated ❤
Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you guys so much
My husband has Alzheimer’s and is starting to sleep 16 hours each night.
Thank you for such lovely honesty.
Music stimulating brain us a sound theory. But also, your beaun fies keep re-fiunting, thatus hiw you cine up with 2,3 wirds to explain the one youcant remember. So kniw. Even with brain shrinkage say, or parts = function ...the brsin you gave keftmay indeed find a new route to walking or something else. Haveyou ever sauda eird you were not thinking of saying? I have. One lady couldnt think of "published" and to her own astonishment said "public-ed" ehich dirt if worked. The phenomena also reveals your filing system, and snd cross filing. Which i hadnt known existed like a syllable sounding similar in the search for a word...me. Looking for enlightening was getting delight, sunlight...imagine.
Sorry, what medication was prescribed for the visual hallucinations?
I get it, sometimes you NEED sympathy, or just understanding and support. My situation is not as complicated as yours, and sometimes I feel that way too.
I'm with you Charlie. I also have LBD and I'm so over it. I just decided I'm not taking anymore meds and no more doctors.
Can you place a mic on Charlie? Really a struggle to hear, and it is wonderful information! Thank you !
I am hardly hear Charlie
My sister had it for 7 years. She retired from NBC in NYC, after 30 something years at 64. She went downhill fast. Almost at once, she would lose her balance, and talk in inarticulate , broken sentences , in whispers. She had round the clock care, diapers, etc, at her house in Ridgefield, CT. for 4 years. She hallucinated, and saw little green furry creatures. The last 3, were at the assisted living facility, The Residence, in Darien, CT.She couldn't walk or talk at the end, and went blind!
I’m new to your channel my Aunt who was my icon growing up so strong independent sassy class now is in late stage Lewy body. It’s a thief from you and your family Thank you for sharing your life journey with us to see we’re not alone. Cherish the moments you can still converse it’s hard this disease is just horrific and unpredictable. My heart goes out to both of you. Switching Doctors to one that has your back has compassion and cares about you and your new view on life. I completely agree with you on that. I just subscribed and I’ll be watching all ♥️♥️♥️
I'd love to see you guys keeping the videos going.
Thank you for sharing
My husband yells at himself when he can't find what he is looking for he is 66 years old could that be a sign of dementia. I get afraid and cry when he gets that way .
Wonderful news!
Dear Chellie - I am so happy to see you and see how happy and fulfilled you are! Most of all I am glad Charlie is doing well. I miss hearing about him and was fearing that maybe things weren't going well. Please send him my best and give him a big hug from me. I think I am probably about the same age as he is and I went to Brooklyn College and I know he went to Queens, so I felt a connection with him. Chellie, writing is not my thing, but I wish you all the best. Let us know how to read your writings. Sending loads of good thoughts to you and Charlie
Thank you Margery for your kind words and support. I wish you well in your journey. Feel free to read along as I write some of my own at chelliegrossman.substack.com Charlie and I send you our well wishes for good health, happiness and peace. May you find the small miracles and magic in every day. Don’t forget to breathe. :) Chellie
Sweet video.
Shelly, you are a bit weird. Your incessant smile will disappear.
Hey Charlie. No, you are not alone. Apathy is something we also have in common. Maybe in different ways it manifests. You touched my heart when said you wanted to know you are not alone.
Oh goodness. Sounds like me. You are so blessed to have a wonderful person in your life. Thankful to y’all for doing these videos and sharing. Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been taken advantage of bc of this. Appreciate y’all for doing these.
Hard. I don’t have anyone. Happy you do.
Holy cow, this was so helpful. Thank you for the affirmation~ we have been thinking about how to handle changing how we do things. We have been doing my mother's meds for almost 4 years on a weekly basis and there are over 20 a day. It's beginning to make us crazy for fear that we are going to mess something up. So it's time to do something different.. And you're right, it really can mess up a relationship when all we're talking about is if she's taken her meds and what doc appointment is next. It would be fantastic to be able to just be people again.. :)
I like the smell of books too. I love the bookstore feeling too, all the possibilities of a good read at your fingertips.
I hope we get to see more of you 2. My husband was diagnosed with LBD last July.
I'm so sorry about your husband. Please take care of yourself while caring for him. You cannot have an empty cup while caregiving. I will keep you in my thoughts. I will ask Charlie how he feels about doing more videos. I miss it and miss interacting with all of you. :)
@@CharliesDementiaJourney thank you for reminding me about taking care of myself. I appreciate your kindness.
I've experienced this same sensation from panic attacks.
I'm sorry to hear about your panic attacks. I hope you find something that works for you to help you feel centered and grounded. For me, that is doing a focused activity (wordle, crosswords or free cell). If you enjoy yoga, perhaps tree pose or saavansa for three minutes. Or maybe make your favorite drink and do it mindfully. Panic will leave. The more you train yourself to move through it the easier it will be. You are not alone.
My husband was diagnosed with FTD in May of 2022. It was finally an answer, but still devastating. He does not admit to having an illness. He could not tell you how he feels, or how his disease is progressing. Every thing about this disease is terrible.
I am so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. You are absolutely correct--devastating is the word. Remember to care for yourself. You may not get him to admit what is going on but you will be there caring for him. Surround yourself with people who understand and can wrap you in love. You need support for you while you support him. I am here Carol. You are not alone.
@@CharliesDementiaJourney Thank you so much for your sweet reply. Have a blessed Easter.
I can fully appreciate your frustrations Charlie. Enjoy your favorite drinks , just see your G.P. and limit the tests. Labs etc. Take life easier, and smell the flowers....be gentle and kind to yourself.
So happy you are doing better 😊 Keep your spirits up❣️ Chellie so glad you are still caretaking💛
Hi Carol, Charlie is doing great! Thanks for thinking of him (and me).
I have had hallucinations audio and visual. But now I've started having nightmares and if I get woke up during the nightmare it stays with me all day. This is a rough Journey that we all are on. I hope you all have a good day.
Cheryl, thank you. May all of your days be easy, peaceful and filled with loving support.
Well, it served a great purpose for me. I'm not finding much on auditory hallucinations at all from a first hand account Charlie, so thank you for putting this out there. I too went from hearing my name being called which I thought was normal to hearing a full on sentence. That freaked me out!! That was just in the last couple weeks. Nightmares have also just started in the last month. I guess I've entered a new phase? My neurologist thinks I'm in beginning stages but I think I'm closer to mid.
Hi Tory. I am glad you found the channel and it has been of help for you. I hope you are doing well now. I apologize for the delay in writing.
My husband of 40 years has just been diagnosed. He is on aricept and seraquel. The doctor said he shouldn’t be driving but didn’t take steps to prevent him driving. He is still working selling insurance. Thank you for sharing.
I home you and your husband are doing well. Take it slowly with everything doctors say. The biggest lesson we have learned is to slow down, listen, wait and wait some more. Charlie sold his car soon after the diagnosis. Life changed a lot for us after that.
Thank you for your honesty and insight. Wishing you all a veryHappy and peaceful New-year
Love the NC Symphony is great 👍👏🏼🤩 I’m not very knowledgeable of the pieces that they play but I just love the music. Glad Charlie is doing good. ☺️🙏
