Luba Advanced Channel Mapping Technique
Anyone with rut problems or ugly transit lines should see if this will help them, it will not work for every situation. This should work on Luba 1 and Luba 2. I do not have an IOS device to test it, but since maps are stored on Luba, I expect it to be the same.

      Yeah, I had shot some video of it for an equal comparison, and have been too busy to edit it all together. I also wasn't sure what to say... the bottom is not clean, but it's not building up either. Running it wet seems to clean it off, but it also causes more grass to get stuck on the guards. I think you'll have a good experience if you coat it with this, and mow your yard with a gas mower, and then keep Luba running. I went out of town, and it rained, and luba did not run all weekend. We've had a lot of rain since then, and I have not been able to get luba to catch up. I also lost of day with the positioning error that everyone got. I was in the beta group, and installing the beta firmware got it running again, so I did not lose 2-3 days like many others. It's building up in the guards, but not on the deck like you see in the start of this video. I can still see the black deck through the thin layer of grass (before the coating it, the black did not show through on the main areas). Another option is getting an extra set of disks, I think they are $30 each from mammotion, then remove the guards. Also, run it every day so it's barely cutting anything. For me, it takes 3 days to mow the whole yard, so it's hard for luba to keep up.

      So, I have run the mower a few times now with the stuff applied, and it is much better. It is mostly cleared, with a few little patches stuck. But they come right off! I sprayed the mower disks as well, and so far, after four or five cuts, my blades are not seized up like they were previously! I'm glad I coated everything before the first cut so I didn't have to try and clean it out first. 😅

    Does anyone know how to adjust cutting height when using “manual mowing”? My experience today was manual mowing inside of a task area. In manual mowing today it seemed the cutting height was the same cutting height as the most recent robot mowing of the task area. LOVE these videos! Excuse a new owner question, but if I reposition the RTK higher on the exterior of my house, would that increase accuracy/range? Right now, I have it one side of my house the and Luba 2 gets confused going around the other side of the house (as it's between two houses). Was thinking if I put it on top of the roof it might work better? Does it need line of sight to the recharge station?

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks หลายเดือนก่อน

      Line of sight makes no difference. The only way to answer your question is to watch the connections page. If the RTK and Luba are connected (I'll bet they are) then that question is answered. Will it increase accuracy? Possibly, the reason why is that accuracy is a result of coviewing satellites. So if RTk can see more satellites, there's a better chance (no guarantee) it will coview more satellites. But if Luba is driving between the houses and only seeing 10 satellites, and it's also coviewing ten satellites, most likely moving the rtk will not change that situation, since the rtk is already coviewing every satellite the Luba can see at that problem spot. I have a theory that vision gets confused when it drives between 2 houses that look similar (I was on a thread awhile back with a guy who has some seriously bizarre behavior and we had him video the mower, and screen record the connections page, and the bizarre behavior started when it switched to vision). So you might find that the satellites have nothing to do with this confusion, Luba might be switching to vision, and the vision is confused. Let me know if that makes sense and/or you have any other questions. There are some mammotion articles on their website about how to understand the connections page. The best one is under luba 1

      @@RobotMowerTricks Thank you SO much for taking the time for such a learned response!! Yeah, likely to yr pt it's the vision element that is getting it confused (which is odd as the homes have very different profiles, etc. I have to move my RTK anyway and remap (as my 1st spot wasn't ideal). I've also learned (and mention on these threads) oddly the slowest speed I can stand for mapping tends to create the best results on edge integrity, etc.

      Yes going slow is good for mapping accuracy, and I also stand back if I think that the satellite count is low in a certain area. i don't want to my body to be blocking the satellites in addition to the house/tree/etc. I hope moving the RTK works for you! For Luba 2, the website says 5km (that's a little over 3 miles). There is talk that a sim card might be required to get that range, but I'm not aware of anything official saying how far you can go without a sim card. So I would take them at their word: it says 5km in one place and it says sim is optional in another place, and we should complain if it doesn't work. Currently I don't know how to give Luba multiple wifi networks/passwords, so it won't have any internet that far away unless you set up a router at the second location with the same credentials as your home router.

    I’m mowing the full 2.5 acres. My house is at the center and my task areas are like the slices of a pie or pizza. Not ideal, but I’m working at optimizing things for most efficient mowing. The app is buggy as hell. Sometimes I have to force it to refresh by closing the app and reopening. I forget what changes I made the other day that weren’t reflected when I was setting up a task. For those changes to be acknowledged I had to power down my phone and restart phone and the app. Is anyone using their iPhone and iPad interchangeably to control their Luba? I picked up my iPad the other day and the app was only recognizing 2 of my 12 task areas and I didn’t take the time to fiddle with it. So I set down the iPad and went back to the iPhone.

      I don't have any IOS devices, but I've used my old phone and it worked fine. All the maps are stored on Luba, so if it isn't loading the map right, it's an issue with it fetching the map from your mower. Maybe an IOS glitch, maybe a network glitch, maybe Luba just needs to be turned off, pull the key, sit for 5 minutes, turn it back on, let it sit for 5 minutes again. The app is buggy, I do have to close it out of memory fairly often, but the mower itself has finally been solid since the last update. I have not had to do a remote rescue since then. Upload a lot of logs for every problem you have, and they might just be fixed in the next update.

    OMG, you explained what I've been seeing -- by accident. When I first got my Luba and set up the RTK and dock placement, the first area that I mapped was a distance away from the dock. So I had to make a channel to it of course, and I chose the channel to coincide with a concrete curved pathway so it wouldn't leave ruts on the grass. I tested that it could go from the charger to my new area, following the channel/pathway, and had it cut that area. But then, in a hurry to continue mapping my entire yard, I next manually mapped the area adjacent to the charger, which was of course "over top" of the sidewalk channel that I'd created earlier. You can't SEE that channel underneath the area anymore. Sure enough, the Luba will accurately follow that hidden channel along the pathway when it moves to cut the first area that I'd mapped, but when it's finished and returning to charge, it takes a direct route across the grass to the charger (and wearing ruts). Now that you've taken the time to explain things (thank you!), I'll go out and delete that area closest to the charger, send the Luba to cut the first area (along the pathway), make sure I send it back to charge again, test it both ways again, and then finally re-map the area closest to the charger again. Whew! There really ought to be a way to map a channel ON TOP of an existing area, but your hack seems like it should work (albeit with additional work on my part). Thanks again.

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wonderful to know I'm not crazy! Thanks for sharing! Let me know if your plan works. it's possible you will need to delete the channel and redo it and retest it to make it work. But I have no idea, we're sort of in "glitch" land, but I know that once it starts working, it's never stopped working. But yeah, if you could come back and say if you had to delete the channel or not that might helps others int eh same boat. I agree, they really need to let you make a channel on top of the other one and show it that way on the map!

    • @HangarQueen
      @HangarQueen 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RobotMowerTricks Alas, my testing of this was unsuccessful. But I have a weird topology. Your trick may hopefully work for others. I deleted the area close to the charger. The channel (following my concrete pathway) showed up again. And curiously, I can't find any way to DELETE a channel! Only by defining a NEW channel between the SAME areas. (And another wish I have on my list is to ALLOW multiple channels between areas, so we'd really need a DELETE CHANNEL capability. But I diverge.) I ran the Luba out to mow the connected area, aborted the mowing, and told her to recharge. She followed the channel/pathway perfectly both ways. I created two more channels for two more areas, along the SAME pathway back to the charger, and again sent Luba to mow and return on each of these. She behaved perfectly. But once I recreated the area closest to the charger, which is "over top of" these channels, the behavior changed. And Luba is now somewhat confused upon exiting the dock, now that I have three channels converging there. She eventually figures out the right way to go, but unfortunately doesn't follow the pathway to any of the three areas. Now the curious thing is that she DOES follow the very first channel that I created back to the charger. But not for the others. I'm thinking that I'm totally bamboozling the software by having three channels "on top" of one another, and then an area on top of all three. Anyway, it was a fun exercise, but didn't work for ME. Your mileage may vary.

      You cannot map channels until you map areas. I thought about making a beginners guide to mapping, but I felt like this is for advanced users who already have maps and understand the weird things Luba is doing. The beginner's guide is that you need to pick how many areas you divide your lawn into, then map the furthest area first, draw a channel, and let Luba use it both ways. Repeat in the order furthest-nearest, getting closer to the charger each time.

    Quick question, i have the H version of Luba 2 but I noticed that when I go to Task, edit, it show that I can adjust my height down lower than 2.2. I wish this were true because 2.2 seems very high. Have you seen this?

      @RobotMowerTricks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, very recently. Are you on the facebook group "Mammotion Luba Issues & Solutions"? I'm not sure if this link will work but it's my post on May 21, 8:11pm facebook.com/groups/1673804186375888/posts/1887468745009430/ Here's what I said in my post: Solution: This week I've been having an issue where the cutting height slider is for standard, but I have the high model. Even killing the app doesn't fix it. But I've found it only does this when creating the task from the device selection screen. If you tap "enter map" then tap "mow" it works for me every time. You can even go back to the task list and they are corrected as well. Luba 2 5000H, Android. (PS you can just load the map, and back out to your task list if you're planning on editing or copying an existing task) One comment said restarting Luba fixed it, I suspect that's true, but it might come back at any time. I think the app has a default for the standard height model and it needs to be overridden by the high version.

    Thanks again for all the info. I installed the RTK in my attic and it went perfectly. I conected it to a 2x4x12 and the RTK is about 14 feet up, about a foot from the spray foam. The extra cable that came with it made it east to reach the outlet in my attic. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video.

    Question. I just got my Luba 2. I set up all my areas today and did a test mow. If I move my charging station about a foot will have to start over?

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope! Just put Luba on the charger manually, and go to settings, then relocate charging station. It will be greyed out of its not charging, it needs to be charging. You can do it again when the GPS quality is better too, anytime it's charging. If you relocate the rtk, then you need to remap. But every time you remap, you'll get better at it. If you could help me out with a vote, I'd really appreciate it. No personal info, just tap vote then tap it again after it says "success". I'm trying to get enough votes so mammotion can't ignore me. cont.st/uZnrsv_nThtij?g=1

      Only when trying to tank turn. When driving straight the omni wheels let it down, pun intended. But the back tires are pretty solid until it starts riding sideways. But that's more from the steepness than the treads, I think.

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's possible because satellites communicate with radio waves, and radio waves go through walls. They are very far away, so the waves are weak, and so obstacles can easily block them. But one layer of shingles and one layer of plywood and some insulation is not enough to block them.

    Seems like if you had it go up and down the bank perpendicular to what you are doing here. It would have straight lines not fighting the front omni tires, trying to go sideways with gravity so much. Maybe? Thanks for the video.

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup, that is true, but when it makes it to the bottom of each run, it will slip the entire time it is turning around, and fall out of the area. It won't hit the water, but it will lock the Luba as soon as it's out of the cutting area. You can see this happening from 2:23-2:27. On the map you can watch it sliding backwards out of the area. It managed to catch itself right before triggering the "out of area" error and locking the wheels.

    Is the new RTK different than Luba 1 RTK? Is that why you were able to mount in attic? Would it be too hot in a regular attic space for Luba 2's RTK?

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I discuss the heat in my orginal video, but the answer is, it's up to you. Other's with a traditional attic are doing it and no one has reported a probem, but they might keep quiet lol idk. th-cam.com/video/kYmlnqZfK6E/w-d-xo.html The Luba 2 is a different RTK, but both will work in the attic. I tested my Luba 1 in the yard and in the attic and found it better in the attic. So on Luba 2, I put it up there, it's all in the video I linked to. Using the L bracket/mount right on the peak of your roof is THE BEST way to mount it, but without a solar panel, that's not an option for me.

  • @kensingtonwick
    @kensingtonwick 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is this what you need a SIM card for? I’m thinking about getting the 5000H as I’ve mapped out my area at 2.4 acres but hoping this feature will be reliable as there will be obstructions such as trees and a couple of buildings? And although the 5000 is rated at 2.5 acre coverage, I am wondering if there will be some issues with a signal when it is at its furthest point away from the RTK (325 feet). Can you speak to any of this?

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have no sim card, so no, a sim card does not create this ability, the camera does. The current distance the LoRa signal will go is unknown but no one in the (facebook/reddit) groups I'm in has reported a connection problem between the RTK and the Luba. It's just not an issue. The issue is always co-viewing satellites. They both need to see a good bit of the same sky.

  • @crimsonwoodworking9609
    @crimsonwoodworking9609 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the video. I ordered my Luba 2 3000H today. I'm super interested in any hints about an attic install. I'm very similar to your house (asphalt shingles, spray foam conditioned attic). I have a spare 110 outlet in the attic too. Question... Should I mount it as high as I can, or is just being in the attic enough?

    • @RobotMowerTricks
      @RobotMowerTricks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I set up Luba 1 last year (then returned it when Luba 2 was announced) I put it up as high as I could reach (around 8') and it was spotty. So I got a bucket and moved it up another foot. Then the actual RTK was at the top of the wood I put the pipe clamps on in this video. Then I had no issues. So height helps, but it was still a few feet from the top of the roof and working fine. Going back to Luba 2, after this video, I did end up sliding the RTK down about 6" from the rafter ridge. It seemed to pick up an extra 2 satellites. I wasn't having problems, but I needed to mess with it for some reason I can't remember.

The metal parts certainly shield the outermost reach of the blades. I have a Luba 2 AWD 10000H mowing the full 2.5 acres so I have certainly experienced the little idiosyncrasies of the Luba 2.
