I build a wide range of subjects. Aircraft, Armor, Cars, Trucks and Ships. I have a large collection of 1/72 scale helicopters both built and unbuilt. I like to build my automotive subjects in "stock" form that is as most people would use them as daily drivers.
I will also be reviewing any new kits I purchase (assuming the item hasn't already been reviewed to death) as well as any kits I already have in my "stash" that I feel are still relatively available or may be of special interest.
I can be reached at dansmodelworx@gmail.com

Fathers Day Special 2024, restoring MPC's General
Yes, I'm still alive. My father built this model back in 1981. He passed away in 2017, and we are repairing some of the damage incurred over the years.

I got this kit around 1982, built it poorly, started to rebuild it (in the mid-90's) as a companion piece to go along with my father's AMT Ladder Chief kit (which he never finished), put it away incomplete, and now that the fire truck and building front are both complete, it now gets its turn at completion.

I have this kit in my closet right now! A neighbor passed away with an apartment full of unbuilt kits, when his brother cleared up the place,he didn't want them, and i got 3 full car loads of old unbuilt kits. These are my retirement projects....only 5 years left to go,and my girlfriend gets her closets back!😂😂😂😂😂
Joey Barnes is the man to tell you all about these......Look up King of Obsolete from Whoville.

I have the same kit in a later Hasegawa boxing, along with a bit of aftermarket goodies for it. I've seen a few built, they take up nearly as much space as a 1/32nd fighter. One thing about the Emily boat is, if you want to build one, that kit is still just about the only game in town.
I thought about getting an aircraft like this but then I realized it would be too much work finding the right parts to cut and then build and spray paint
Hey there dan,can you do a video of building the mh-53j pave low?
That sounds like a 71. A 53 goes yoo-yoo-yoo when wound up. And a 53 will wind a lot tighter than that one. 2800 flat out. A 71 will wind 21 or so.
Imagine if the cutlass was built today with modern engines, electronics and computerized flight controls.
@stealthfighter2923 I think it pushed the technology of time a bit to far. If you think about it the F8U Crusader was a 180 degree change in design philosophy.
do the gears that make the propeller turn that was pictured in this video do they just freely rest in there or is there any glue anywhere for the props? i just wanted to know if putting the turning gears is complcated or is it fairly easy?thanks Richard
@richardkrotec1440 If I recall correctly the geared assembly was retained by a ring that held them to a part which then was glued to front of the plane. I expected the worst but there was little chance of the glue freezing things up. The mechanism works pretty freely. Thanks for watching.
For anyone watching in 2024, I bought this years ago and the clear cockpit glass had some crazing that was pretty bad. I contacted Revell and they sent me a free replacement sprue pretty quickly. I kind of wish the rest of the pieces weren't yellow
Wow, silk purse out of a sow’s ear-great job!!!!!
AMAZING work with the louvers!
@@57hound Thanks!
Nice job on the pilot figure! Also, Thank you for cleaning your workbench. I’m not OCD, but man, that work area was freaking me out! I don’t know how anyone could work in those conditions.
I have this kit too. I was also wondering about how to do the mesh. I finally decided to just paint those areas black and be done with it. As I have gotten older, I have come to understand that life is short and the staff is large. That “someday” in the future is never going to come, so if I want to get those kits built I have to try to stop obsessing about their shortcomings and just build the damn things! There is far more satisfaction to be had building a kit, even when it is very challenging, compared to always just dreaming about doing it “someday”.

Thanks for making a video on this camper! I'm working on it now sept, 1 2024. That's a really nice job you did!
@justinsnow4247 Glad you enjoyed it!
I just got this very kit tonight! Like you said in your video here, this was indeed a Matchbox kit and also like you, I really wanted one when I was little. Now, tonight, that dream has finally come true, 40 years later! 😄
@@Lambonights I hope you enjoy the build. The kit has lots of potential.
HAve you finished the model yet? I recently got this kit and am doing research before i begin my build :-)
@@stijndevleesschauwer6066 I have recently restarted it. Getting motivated after a long break is hard.
LeTourneau was an engineering genius, and a dedicated Christian man. He gave 90% of his earnings to God, and lived on the 10% left over. When he sold out to Caterpillar he had to agree to not build any earthmoving equipment for ten years. He designed a huge offshore drilling platform that was mounted on giant screws that could screw itself out of close proximity to the water, allowing it to weather storms that damaged fixed platforms. He is in Texas' hall of fame for the oil industry.
Good comprehensive video.
Thank you for the very nice builds and the heads-up with your mistakes and screw-ups, they are very useful for other modellers. nice tip also about the dangers of bending the blades! I love your balanced approach of the hobby, correcting the model with a resin part, but not going crazy with hyper-detailing the interior. A pleasure to watch.
A very interesting and informative video. FYI There are two surviving lock keepers cottages on Bradley Street that are now private residences.
@steveciazynski1231 Very cool. Over on our sister channel Ontario Ship Chasers we are hoping to do some more videos on historic structures of the Welland Canal.
Not a fan of talking hands.
Bro....your video , albeit informative, is crap in quality. Due mostly to unstabilized video and really crummy audio,,( no wind suppressors) Keep going, Im sure you'll do better
roll up doors are used mostly for local work some refer mostly local the post office uses roll up company that do drop and hook use them . many company use rolls ups like Costco wallmmart and refers do use them many warehouse you can't go on the docks and roll up doors as they age they get stuck to as a driver next time if you drive across the country our in a truck stop you can count the numbers of roll up doors .And you are doing a drop and hook you may not be able to open or closes the door structure has little to do with it nice build keep modeling ,
U guys went to a lot of work on this project and it's awesome!!! I've lived in Niagara all my life and didn't know this , until now ! Excellent work ! Peace ✌️ from Mike in Welland Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
I have one in a case on my coffee table. I built the model, and my Dad cut up all the small logs that are in the tender.
Currently reliving my childhood building this very "golden oldie"! Nice seeing how you problem-solved. I had a chuckle noting the propeller tip discrepancies for the yellow-as you did. Hopefully I'll add the below-wing fuel tanks with tiny plasti-card filler caps and more accurate attachment points. Love your finish. It's fun trying to improve a 1960s model kit.🙂🙂🙂
In the winter they had skis instead of wheels
Very inspiring
First off, awesome videos. I now live in VT but grew up in Welland. I thought I knew everything about the canal but was surprised by the lock that lead from the canal to the Welland river (I new there was one right in Welland that lead to the East but I didn't know there was one on the Chippawa side. The thing I am not sure if you knew or not but when you talked about the aqueduct in Welland, the reason there is cement on the top edge is that it was once used as a swimming pool! they poured steps on one end and closed the other end off with a wall and dirt (it was actually open at that end for a long time and used unfiltered water from the canal). My dad owned a small family show store on Main Street in Welland for many years (Ernie's Shoes .. 1964 - 1976). I could walk out the back of his store and go to the pool. There was no indoor pools at the time ... Port Colborne got it's first in 1967. I took my swimming lessons there! The original aqueduct walls where the pool walls with a suspended walkway on one side. There was also a small pool right near the river. Great Video's .... Thanks ... Mike in Vermont
Very interesting! It also explains something I saw online a few days ago. It was an 8mm home movie shot back when the lift bridge in downtown Welland was operating for the last time. It was maybe 1973, and there was a shot looking towards city hall, and the segment of the Second Canal was filled with water. Your information about it being used as a pool explains this! We're glad you enjoyed the video.
@@dansmodelworx I just sent you an e-mail with some pictures of the aqueduct as a pool. Thanks!

I did wonder about a month ago if you were doing a Father’s Day build, nice to see you modelling again and sorry about the issues you’ve been experiencing
Thanks! I started thinking about the build back in April around the time we did our first canal trip of the year, then next thing I knew we were a week into June. Glad to have you as a regular on both channels!
I realized I had missed you for a while, so welcome back, and I have always enjoyed your Fathers Day tribute builds, not just the projects and the quality of the builds, but there is often a touching back story to go along with it. It's a great thing to honor him with something he loved, and Happy Fathers Day to you!
I'm glad you enjoy them! I'm going to try to get back on the model building horse!

Nicely done - BUT - 445 Squadron never flew Mk 5s - only Mk 4Bs. Squadron aircraft were in natural aluminum when based at North Bay, then at Uplands. They were all camouflaged when based at 1 (F) Wing Marville, France.

Im from sarnia where the Algorail was in winter dock and my friends father was the security assigned to live on Algorail so anyway my friend and I Camped out on her for 10 days we had the run of the ship including the fridge and freezer, I mean there was every find of steaks ice cream treats, chicken wings, fingers, burgers ect any thing you could think of and a restaurant kitchen to cook it up. When I saw this video I was saddened but writing this comment thinking of the fun we had,I realize my memories will never be scrapped

Sadly I haven't done anything on this channel for quite some time. I had an accident last fall and that plus some health issues have kinda let the wind out of my sails. I am hopefully going to start modeling again soon.
David R Lentz, USA I remember this Monogram kit of the Packard classic car. I recall the body and the wheel fenders were a glossy black (so I kept it that way), not brown. I had sold it to a master-level car body man; he and a businessman, when they had acquired the rights to the name, had formed a car manufacturing firm to produce Packards. They were quite grand, selling dozens to people as far away as California. I used the money to buy another, as well as other related Monogram Classics kits; this second attempt was better. Decades later, I built a pair of Duesenbergs; one a buff with a deeper brown, and a leather interior, the second gloss black with a burgundy accent, and for the interior, Humbrol’s reddish Wine (scarcely a minute after I had typed that, you mentioned your Humbrol leather colour turned to sludge or goo!). You shortly thereafter noted your missing distributor. I supplanted mine with aftermarket versions that had the wires extending from it. I did not fully understand the engine firing sequence, nor how to set each to its proper spark plug; I have no idea if I correctly had set them. I also found an aftermarket set of interior door fixtures, from which I added to each window cranks and door handles. In admiring your finished results, I must sat that your father’s use of the bright blue-the breathtaking azure of a cloudless dusk-body paint makes for a truly elegant monochromatic colour scheme. If I ever have the chance, I would buy several: one a gloss black, the other a two-tone French vanilla and caramel. And perhaps a white one, with brass trim in lieu of the silvery chrome.
David R Lentz, USA Oh, would I love a few of these (along with Duesenbergs, Packards, Cords, Auburns) for different settings, most of their bodies in two-colour paint schemes (a few monochromatic, especially gloss black). These I would mix in with the various versions of AMT’s Ford later Model T kits available (I think I have counted at least four stock manifestations: roadster, coupe, pickup truck, depot hack, etc.), Lindberg’s three 1926 Mack trucks, and MPC’s 1921 Oldsmobile (this in the BMCK channel “GRANNY'S HOT ROD” [of The Beverly Hillbillies television programme] TH-cam build video, Saturday, 6 November, 2023); these would populate my streetscape diorama, placing them all in a vibrant Roaring ’20s streetscape diorama in the late 1920s a couple years prior to the Wall Street crash of October 1929.
David R Lentz, USA An excerpt of video from the “Last Blast” Show held in Barrie Ontario, October 2018. You mention that the vehicle in the video is a Euclid R22 Quarry Truck, and its 6-71 Detroit Diesel Engine some “called the most efficient way to turn diesel fuel into sound!” Actually, this is “the most efficient way to turn diesel fuel into” black exhaust smoke.
