Exmouth sportfishing 2021 - Muiron Islands
First of two days fishing with Ben from Ningaloo Sportfishing in March 2021. We started with soft plastics at a couple spots on the way to the Muiron Islands and then used stick baits all around the south island. Tackle was PE 2 to 3.

This is a video from January 2020, fishing with Brett from Ningaloo Fly Fishing (formerly True Blue Bonefish) in the Exmouth Gulf. We fished the mangroves at the south east side of the gulf, spotting and casting stickbaits to queenfish and giant trevally on PE1 to 3 spinning setups. We also saw a big hammerhead shark eating a stingray, had a total glass-off with dugongs and dolphins swimming ar...

    Pe 1 is good if there’s not to many big spangos and rocks, you can pull hard on pe 1. All you need is a 20lb leader at least.

      Sorry for the late reply. Most of this video was 30Lb main line (PE 1.7) and a 30Lb leader.

    Just wanted to ask what the specs are of the rod, reel and line are please? I'm going to Exmouth in October and looking to buy something for some shore fishing. Thanks mate.

      Sorry - I realise my reply is too late! From memory, this video was with a Daiwa Morethan 2510-PEH with PE1.2 (around 18Lb) with a Yamaga Ballistick81/1.

      Agreed! PE1 is fine for most land-based fishing in Exmouth (unless you're popping for GTs).

    What stickbaits were you throwing man?

    • @michaeljanis2749
      @michaeljanis2749 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whatever really. Something about 90mm, not too crazy colours and around 20g so you can cast it a good distance. To be honest, a metal slice does the job. I also use soft plastics a lot at those spots on the western side.

    Awesome vid mate! Is it common for the Gs to come into the lagoon?

    • @michaeljanis2749
      @michaeljanis2749 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Murray, They are pretty common out closer to the barrier reef, although you do need to know where to look... and have a boat with a shallow enough draw to chase them through the bombies.

    • @muzharcus3195
      @muzharcus3195 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaeljanis2749 Ahh righto, certainly makes for tense looking action following him round and still staying connected: bloody good effort. Reckon it makes much difference what time of year up there for the Gs, heard more active in cooler months?

    • @michaeljanis2749
      @michaeljanis2749 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@muzharcus3195 My understanding is that in general you don't want the water in the lagoon to be too cold, which normally means October/November on. I'm not sure exactly how the GTs react with different water temperatures, though. I highly recommend going out with a guide like Ningaloo Fly Fishing (nee True Blue Bonefish) or Ningaloo Sportfishing and talking to them before planning your trip. Check out NIngaloo Fly Fishing's facebook page to see a monster GT on fly from the lagoon last week.

      @michaeljanis2749 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cameron, Sorry for my late reply - I don't login to my TH-cam account very often. The Aquila 81 is awesome. It casts a mile, has a soft enough tip to work stick baits and still has decent power.

    Where were you catching GTs land based? I’ve only heard of them near the tip where the gulf ends. Never caught one my self and been trying for years.

    • @michaeljanis2749
      @michaeljanis2749 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day Michael, Sorry for my late reply. I haven't had that much success catching big GTs from shore. They're at the tip and near the Navy Pier but I lose more than I win and it is generally a lot of casts between hits. The little one in this video was at Old Bundegi.

    Just subbed luv the vids. I’m heading up to Exmouth in November and wondering if I should get a charter or hire a boat. What would you choose?

    • @michaeljanis2749
      @michaeljanis2749 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry - I don't often login to my TH-cam account. It's probably too late for you but I reckon getting a charter is the way to go unless you already have a pocket full of spots. Unless you like trolling (the spots are pretty obvious), you can spend hours just prospecting. I recommend going for the full guided setups rather than the bottom bouncing charters.
