📟 cool tech & personal growth
About me!
I spent years as a professional esports player and commentator (2016-2023), but now my life looks a little different. I’m a college student majoring in computer science, making music out of a closet in my bedroom. Growing up surrounded by video games and tech, I’ve always been drawn to it-but honestly, figuring out how to keep it from taking over my life hasn’t been easy. This channel is my way of sharing that journey and finding a better balance, by showing off the tech I love while also talking about it's impact on my own life.

Valve’s Next Move? A Steam Deck Mini
Would a Steam Deck Mini be something you'd actually be interested in? I LOVE my Steam Deck OLED but I can't lie sometimes it feels like a giant in my hands. With PC Handhelds getting bigger and bigger I thought it would be fun to discuss the idea of getting Steam OS on a SMALLER device!

Prime easily made a compact desktop mini PC out of a broken stim deck. The motherboard of the steam deck turned out to be surprisingly small. On its basis it is already possible to make a demo version of a mini Steam Deck. No need to wait for Valve to deign to do it. We just need to take and make a mini version based on the existing board. Thankfully, 3D printers are very affordable nowadays. Make a case and place the motherboard + battery + control elements in it. And voila. A demo version of the mini stim deck is ready. It would be possible to make quickly replaceable battery and replaceable blocks "left stick + cross" and "right stick + ABXY". But that's just wishful thinking. Even if we have to give up track pads. That would be a great demo. And then kickstarter it and go ahead. Make a mini version. It will probably even be possible to make a deal with Valve and buy motherboards from them. Maybe they might even want to buy the project and produce a mini-version themselves. I just need someone to do it. Unfortunately, my skills are too weak for that. I can't do it. Yeah, and I don't have a lot of tools. But isn't there a handyman who would take on a project like this?
I want a Steam console that directly competes with PlayStation. Imagine playing all your Steam games from your PC, Steam Deck/handheld with SteamOS and a console.
I and many people around me are saying the same thing. Steam Deck is too big and heavy. I'd even rather get the version without trackpads. I don't need them most of the time anyway. And playing games on them is still much worse than on a regular mouse. On such portable "consoles" it makes sense to play only gamepad games. And games that require a mouse are better played on a normal mouse. People put too much emphasis on those trackpads. But I'm not demanding to do away with trackpads completely. Just give people like me a separate compact version of the stim deck, without trackpads. Give people multiple versions of the Steam Deck, with different form factors. Like with Swich - Switch base, Oled, lite. We need the same thing, multiple versions of Steam Deck. It is not necessary to force all people to use one single version of the steam deck.
Steam deck mini is definitely possible. You won't even have performance hit. Only thing you are gonna lose on is gonna be battery life.
If your hands go numb after playing on the steam deck for 30 minutes you have bigger problems to deal with ie health issues dude 😎
I am obsessed with the Steam Deck, I use mine everyday since 2022. The reason is the build-in controls and steam-input. No other device on the market can match the utility those provide.
No just keep the same form factor and improve the power! Come on guys why a mini for people to complain about it not being comfortable. The performance will be a problem then people will complain lol
I have a hard time imagining how they would keep the trackpads and the Triggers in the similar form factor while decreasing the size. They would have to make some major cuts to decrease the size and slim down the deck. Idk if that would really work out.
Let them make a compact version without trackpads. I don't want trackpads. They're overrated. Compactness and weight are much more important. We need multiple versions of the Steam Deck for different audiences. Like the Switch.
I'd rather have the next Steam Deck be smaller than the current Deck (with the same design and layout) but with tremendously better hardware. They can do it. They're Valve. Just have to cook a little bit longer.
I went to the mall and handled the ROg Ally X andd it was not that big Then watxh a youtube comparing rhe steam oled to the Ally X and I was surprised rhat the steamdeck was wider. The Rog Ally X is smaller but had an bigger 80whr battery and the cheaper more available longer NVME. If Asus can can fit those 2 components than that would be easier to design and fit those 2 larger better components on the Staemdeck. It woyld have been much better if Steamdeck have the 80whr battery and the bigger NVME.😢
ARM-gaming is the path for smaller devices. x86 devices will hit a size limit when it comes to power for gaming.
If Valve comes out with a Steam Deck Mini I'll definitely buy it.
I want a bigger steam deck
Really enjoyed your take and commentary! Keep it up man. I don't even got a steam deck myself. Despite your wants, it sounds like Valve's current R&D department is working on the next generation Steam Deck. That said, personally super excited to for the Switch 2 though. Feel like my GTX3060 PC and my switch are the perfect duo. Excited to play Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PC this year when they like - actually run decently lol. The Sony PC ports always release in such broken states.
BozoOS is literally the reason I still believe in technology. Who knew watching a guy open boxes could be so life-changing? I’ve learned more from this channel than from any school I’ve ever been to. Seriously, if I could marry a TH-cam channel, it’d be this one. Keep making the future brighter, one unboxing at a time! #BozoOS4Life
I dont think valve likes being in the hardware business any more than they have to. I'd prefer they work on the perfect form factor for deck 2 if it ever comes vs a deck mini.
yes, a pocketable pc would be in its own category many people would be interested in. I have a pc handheld but if it was pocketable and had a fast sleep-wake function, I would play it more. Sure performance goes down but you can play lighter and older games. They would need to get the size right to be successful, otherwise it would just be considered the slightly smaller steamdeck that has less battery, performance, and a smaller display.
I've only used a Steam deck once and was kind of annoyed at the low frames and the input lag. We were playing Stray, and it was honestly jarring since all I ever play is my gamecube and my gaming PC. It made some of those harder sections where you're running from those rats REALLY hard. That said, I'd be super down to see a mini version that's proudly an indie game runner and doesn't pretend to be able to play games that really should only be run on a full PC or console.
I want a SteamOS device in 3DS size, and I'd be okay with it not being as powerful as the current steam deck. It'd still be powerful enough to play tons of indie games, old games and emulation
I just love nostalgia, and the feeling of ownership is just a way better feeling and a reason why I may purchase a iPod, I have purchased cds and records from my fav artist and that’s how I want to fully support them instead of supporting a third party.
I love ur hair and look it reminds me the early 2000's
Steam Deck is my main emulation machine, so if they can make a mini deck that can play PS2 games flawlessly then I'm down.
The battery would die in the time it takes you to pull it out of your pocket 😂 Love steam but this idea is terrible
Ayaneo made the Slide and that has decent battery life. About 1.5 to 4hrs which is about average for a smaller x86 handheld. So remove the keyboard on the Slide and replace with bigger battery = 3-4hrs battery life
I have steam deck and ps vita. Guess what is always in my pocket? I am even considering selling my steam deck as it may be cool and powerful but I can play all my favorite games on my vita in such smaller form factor that I realize I don't need the steam deck. I just buy games on steam and use their data files in ports on my vita.
@@borisov1024 that’s an awesome setup! Which games do you play most??
Id settle for a steam deck mini (cause it is kinda big for travel) or the ability to stream like how exactly how gamepass does not just stream from your computer to another device.
@@lastgengamers1137 how does the game pass stream exactly?
@Isaac-OS basically cloud gaming. Like you would with your own computer with steams big picture stream, but the computers are more up to date than what yours might be. So really all you need is a solid internet connection to run game pass cloud streaming. I just like the options cause I A: dont like leaving my PC run B: most of my parts are too old to stream and have solid frame rate.
I held off because of how big the Steamdeck was. After using the Retroid Pocket 5 for two months, even the Switch seems too big for what I prefer.
@@tico481 yeah the RP5 makes everything seem HUGE but at the same time the ergonomics of the RP5 can feel lacking sometimes
Mythical video pull 🔥 Switch lite-sized Steam Deck would be such a game changer, even if they reduce battery size or TDP
@@MontoTechs every monto video is mythical 🔥
A Important Upgrade would be Gorilla Glas Armor 2 with it matt glas that does barely reflect saving basically on brightness. Its only used in S25 Ultra from Samsung. 1 Dollar Coating to make Steam Deck Waterproof essentially th-cam.com/video/nO8mAjW4Xxg/w-d-xo.html
I wish so much of a Pocket Steam Deck ! Sure there are options but they would be not as polished, repairable and have a good customer service.
@@animationmann great points. Let’s hope we get a proper mini one of these days 👀
Dude I NEED A STEAMDECK MINI PLEASE
TALK TO EM 🗣️
I agree, If both Ayn and Aya Neo can make Handhelds that are smaller and more powerful than a Steam Deck why can't Valve.
Dude i love this video! This was my 2nd console as a child after I dropped my DS lite in the toilet lol. I had this exact wine DSI XL. So many memories!
Bro someone else said they dropped theirs in the toilet that must be a common occurrence 😂
I cant wait for this channel to hit 50k subs by the end of the year. You make insane content
YO SPACEMAN… big fan of your channel thank you 🙏🏻
I like these sorts of form factors too. Having Android is just too much of a useful convenience in that even basic secure messaging apps like XMPP, SimpleX, (maybe Signal or Matrix if you are a normie & don’t care about your centralized metdata) are just not present on the proprietary OSs or KaiOS which means your lowest common denominators are going to be SMS (100% insecure) & email (which is 100% insecure if you aren’t using PGP which none of the dumb phone clients provide… & the other end of your conversation is probably using GMail so you just leak all the info to Google). Android lets you get these basic apps to talk with your loved ones. There are 2 issues that pop up for me tho even with Android: 1) the brands tend to never really get around to updating the device but like 1 more time & 2) there isn’t much of any uptake in the Android hacking community which meant no custom ROMs (mainly LineageOS + microG). Without a solid custom ROM community, you are leaking too much data to Google. I want to reduce my social media usage for my mental health, yes, but it is also very important that my privacy is respected too. Currently I’m test driving a Xperia 10 phone with Sailfish OS just to break out of Android/iOS duopoly. The only real ‘apps’ tend to be all utilitarian & open source like messaging apps which is good, while also being very hacker-friendly devices being mostly just regular old Linux (GNU/Linux, not Android/Linux). If I had a more supported model I could get access to Android apps thru an emulator with a performance hit too if required. While it has caused me to use my phone less without even the option for distracting apps, I’m really interested now in building some apps for it myself XD
Slightly smaller steamdeck with ability to play Elden Ring and everything below in a satisfactory manner would be a dream come true.
I want to live this dream
Rog ally x is smaller than the steam deck
GPD Win 4 with BazziteOS installed is the closest thing we have to a steam deck mini.
Ayaneo Air 1S as well!
$900+ for a GPD Win 4? I’d rather own multiple steam decks, or keep my OG and save the rest for the steam deck 2
Loving my onexfly with bazzite/windows dual boot also streaming to a RP5 wen I need to charge it
Definitely would love a steamdeck mini. I love my retroid pocket 5, and the odin 2 portal looks like a good middlepoint in terms of size, but the steamdeck provides such a lovely experience from OS to ergos and general build quality.
THANK YOU. Its nice to see someone else crave a product like this.

I like how you have that Samsung Free Phone lmaoo

Seeing that LG phone with the keyboard early in the video makes me yearn for a modern Smartphone with a slide out keyboard. I’m in my late 20s, but it wasn’t until I was in college when I got my first smartphone. Before that I was using dumb phones like the LG Cosmos or Samsung Intensity. The first smartphone I held in my hand and played around with was my Mom’s original Motorola Droid. I remember the slide out keyboard on that being great to use.
알고리즘에 찬사를!
i personally like the ds lite more just for the gba compatibility
"Crash Bandicute"
Dumbphones are the 'cold turkeying' answer to an addiction that again with the paradox is actually going against the grain of societal norms/expectations, and someone seriously considering one is going to lapse at some point, with phone usage not being terribly stigmatized since it's a relatively invisible addiction since most people have a healthIER relationship with their phone yet still go "ya ig I spent too much time on tiktok lastnight". I rock with the Cat S22 but I still bring my iphone 7 places as a wifi device, and at first I was totally committed to using the Cat and I often do just leave with my Cat, but places like work/school/socialevents I tend to bring the iphone for when I know I'm going to get bored/anxious like I'm a DS kid in the 2000s lmao, so to say the least when I first converted to Cat I was getting 1-2 screen times out, but it's probs higher now (Ik tracking time is a bit bad for selfesteem but like fad dieting it felt nice... until it didn't). Tl;Dr quality of time spent on internet/phones is much more important than limiting an arbitrary time spent number, so just being mindful of what I'm consuming in a day rather than limiting use all together (ie: trying not to doomscroll/shortform-spiral, and instead use necessary tasks or mindful entertainment that I actually care about instead of an algo.) Also dumbphone/smartphone debate aside the real hardcore phone use de-stigmatization is _grayscaling your phone in accessibility settings_ *fullstop* though although I've tried this and it is the most effective method, I make a far commute and need to be able to see traffic colours on Google Maps, so I stopped using it after a bit. Hope this novel helps anyone who is just embarking on this journey!
battle network is actually so goated. buying a new handheld is almost always just an excuse play through bn 3/5/6 again ahaha
DUDE THANK YOU!!! Battle network deserves more love 😭
I wanted a dumb phone for a couple of years now but due to having to stay connected for work and family I really didn't find anything good so I kinda gave up on the idea and continued to use a smart phone. I started to look at foldable phones thinking it would be cool to basically carry a table in your pocket and then I started to think "why do I even need a table for?" and "I need to minimize my screen time not increase it". I ended up getting a Motorola razr because it gave me all the modern smart features I need and use but I can also close it to minimize my distractions and do quick text replies, music controls and see notifications. IMO this is the perfect bridge for dumb phones and smartphones.
That’s a great choice!! I’m glad you found something that works for you
