Wore my elbow out swaging and shaping. Later on we started using stellite tipped for smaller blades. Started benching. Keeping that back correct is tedious. Go out to the yards and grind the face of worn out wheels. Build our own jig to do it. Crush grind on the top wheel (no power). Use the power for bottom. Hard work. Learned my work ethic back in those days. Never quit. Turning saws inside out was fun. Serviced all mills in So Cal. Planer mills. Lumber mills. Pallet co. Moulding mills. Great experience.

Thank you for sharing this video. I worked for Georgia Pacific from 1975 to 1998. This was in their Fort Bragg, CA sawmill. I did several jobs during my employment, but spent most of my years as a Saw Filer. We also had a planing mill, where I was a Planer Man in my early years. Unfortunately, I can’t find any videos showing our mill. I would love to share this part of our town's history with my grandkids, but I’ve not found any photos or videos of the Fort Bragg mill. I think GP (with our mill) was pretty strict regarding anyone taking video, or photos inside the mill property. Trade secrets I guess... Anyway, at least I could show my grandson your video, which shows what a saw filer does. Thanks!
