Fr. Kenneth Tanner & Dr. Chris Green / Reading Scripture In Community
In this conversation, Fr Kenneth Tanner, Chris Green, and Jason discuss the importance of reading scripture in community and approaching it with a Christocentric lens. They emphasize the need to move away from transactional and isolated approaches to scripture and instead engage in relational and communal exploration of who God is. The conversation touches on the harm caused by misinterpretations of scripture and the importance of humility and healing in our reading and understanding of the Bible.
The conversation explores the themes of power, prophecy, love, and complexity. It delves into the stories of Amos, Paul, and John the Baptist, highlighting the silencing and persecution of prophets. The guys discuss the distinction between the shallow heart which can be deceived, and the deep heart, which is oriented towards the truth, emphasizing the need to see beyond appearances and trust in the unseen.
They also address the challenges of navigating the current cultural and political climate, urging humility, openness, and a focus on personal relationships. The conversation concludes with a reminder to prioritize scripture, prayer, and serving others.

    "One of the reasons the incarnation began to be an obsession for me is because the Lord dropped it in my mind, 'I became one of you, to rescue all of you.' What God becomes his creation? Well, ours does! And the value that that placed on human beings, and me in particular, that's what's changed everything." - Derek 💣✨️✨️✨️✨️

    I have been on this journey of discovery for 6 years now. But one major problem I cannot get around. SCRIPTURE: Both OLD and NEW Covenants. The harmony of them both and the dysfunction in the details. I study the Hebrew and Greek, (Grk the less of the 2), Only to find the Translators doing a poor job of transmitting Actual Meaning in a trade for a simpler script. You cannot boil translation down to convenience. It is a shame to the scholars to have to fit those square pegs into round holes. Yet when it comes to fleshing out the Gospel that the disciples teach, and that which Baxter Kruger teaches. The jury is still out on deliberations. We Dont gave enough info. I find it curious that those associated with Dr. Krueger and others do not take on the challenges of debate. I have heard the excuses. But some of us have tasted the meat, and for now I find both camps wanting. But just as the Jews before and at the time of Yeshua. They had alot more practice debating their beliefs. So just as today Universalism has a lack of total incorporation of the Scriptures. All of them. Heresy waits to be a label. I fear a legalist, just as in the days of Yeshua, will be the one who pins it with politics rather than truth.

    This is so good! I began a journey a little over a year ago to have my soul healed after hearing Paul Young talk about it. Got with a great therapist but in the last few months I’ve been stuck on the “Painful” step Mr. Young mentioned in his list. It would appear that I’ve been dealing with OCD as far back as 1984. It’s been really tough! Where I’m at now with the intrusive thoughts and a part of this mental illness that attacks your faith has been hard! Centering up on who I am in Christ has been a life line! Hearing about God’s nature and character really up lifted me today!

    I like this “David whining” I had this thought a while ago. Because David seems to oscillate between his human, base emotions, and revelatory prophecy. In one place he says the wicked shall not stand, and shortly after that all flesh will worship God. He is obviously writing down his humanity, alongside Gods divine revelation. So it won’t do to take only the places where he says the wicked are damned.. that’s what DAVID wants, but he was after Gods own heart, and so God progressively reveals his heart to David. When God says “my ways are higher than your ways” in Isaiah, it is in juxtaposition to mankind’s nature. He contrasts the way that WE are, with the way HE is. He is saying that He is forgiving, will freely pardon, whereas mankind is vindictive. Beautiful. How much people would gain if the only read the darn book! They always seem to stop reading just before it gets good. “Gods ways are higher than our ways”. What can this mean, but that God is BETTER than we are? Take all the very human problems; judgmentalism, vindictiveness, selfishness etc. God is saying “I’m not like you”. Amazing.

    Asked my old pastor (before I totally left the cage of Evangelicalism) if Jeff could come speak at our church and he “did some research” and came back to me saying, “We aren’t going to have any of that HYPER GRACE taught in THIS church!” And I already had listened to everything Jeff had done up to 2014 and knew he wasn’t, by definition, hyper grace so I said to him, “He is an Assembly of God pastor! He’s just preaching a message that is the NEW thing God is trying to do in this generation, like you’re always saying! I think this could be the conduit to u leashing a wave of change God is trying to make! Not only here but in all of his churches!” He refused, and then went on to forbid me from teaching what I was learning to my youth (I was a youth leader at the time) and even asked me not to speak at our open forum men’s meetings on Friday nights held at my parent’s house! lol Needless to say, I left shortly after. But not before he burst in to my home and accused me of being a communist because I didn’t support his political agenda lol.

    the thorn was the persecution Paul received for the revelation he was revealing of Christ, read it in that context it makes a lot more sense, there are substantiating explanations of the word thorn meaning and cross references to OT usage, not to diminish grace examples, but I believe as do many others teaching we have been mistaught on this one

    Very insightful about Abraham. How about the genocide passages. I like to think of a twofold thing going on there: you can only do it without becoming psychopaths if you believe like Abraham that all will be well in the end, for each and every one of the people you have just killed AND having done it once (or for a couple of hundred years at most) you eventually realise that it doesn’t work (perhaps because your own nation turns out to be just as degenerate as those you have been slaughtering) and develop a more progressive theology (same as the death penalty for sabbath breaking, as Jesus clearly teaches doesn’t work.) But I admit my view still requires an extremely strong stomach. Or you have others that say that people misheard God….but then what did Jesus mean when he affirms the jot no tittle reliability of the whole of the law and the prophets?…..and then you have those who say it’s all just allegorical stories…..even though some of the most horrific bits of allegory are found right in the middle of blatantly historical passages. Would be great if you or someone could really do some work on this. But we must outright reject the evangelical view that god is good by definition but evil in fact, because the fruit of this hard heartedness is increasingly manifest in their love (by which I mean refusal to outright condemn) cynical hard right politics.

    “The angels fell and he didn’t bother doing anything about that?” I thoroughly disagree. Yes, it says in hebrews that it is not angels he takes hold of but humans, but only that the humans may be first. Similarly he said that he did not come for the gentiles but for Israel, and the godly response is “but surely even the dogs eat the crumbs under the table.” The gospel is not a dualism, but a story of those who come first in order to prepare the way for the others. Several early theologians (not just Gregory of nyssa) taught that the fallen angels are also included in Christ, because they understood that to “not bother about them” as your guest puts it, would be a gospel of dualistic separation.

    • @chrisgreen2013
      @chrisgreen2013 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      And the Wikipedia article that claims that Origen denied this is incorrect. What Origen denied is that wicked men and fallen angels can be saved without first being destroyed. John behr is good on this. (The Wikipedia article on Greg nyssa is also full of nonsense.)

    It seems to me that this man is pushingat least moral relativism. To say that mankind has a higher standard of morality is to say that truth doesn't exist. Because objective morality is cooperated with truth and a transcendent quality from all creator. You can use the Old Testament slave example to try to make that point.... That would be misunderstanding the drive of redemptive history. Atheists try to do that when they accuse christians of being inconsistent by not wearing mixed fabrics. It's a failure to understand redempt of history. The old covenant law was given on tablets of Stone to a people who had hearts of Stone. It was a picture and shadow. Without saying too much more and just weighing and analyzing this 6 minute clip.... I'd like to know How this gentleman knows all government law is not as good as his Standard? By what standard is he judging standards?
