I'm a Derbyshire based outdoors enthusiast that loves hiking, climbing and camping in the Peak District. I try to film all my adventures to preserve the memories and to share with the world.
HOOPED BIVVY Solo Wild Camp in the PEAK DISTRICT.
This vlog is a much needed solo wild camp in the Peak District. After having a run of bad luck and worry my mental health was starting to take a battering so some natural health service was much needed.
After scratching my head of what to take, how I'm going to set up I then decided where to go. After packing I then decided to change where I was planning on going. As usual I was leaving it late and didn't arrive at my destination until late (1900hrs) and felt that I had to rush to get set up, even though I still had about 3 hours of daylight left. In the near distance there was a 4x4 car parked in a nearby field which put me on edge about setting up.
Whilst sitting enjoying a beer and admiring the view 5 people approached the summit and asked if I would take some photos of them and they would repay the favour. After a quick chat (and 1 or 2 new subscribers) they went on their merry way and I decided to start setting up.
After pitching the bivvy and tarp I noticed 4 cows that seemed like they had appeared from nowhere. They were approaching with caution, stopped, stared and approached a little further. This put me on edge after remembering an incident that EMRT attended earlier this year with a cow injuring a walker. I was all set for a speedy take down but the cows must have been bored with my presence and headed off into the distance.
The wind was biting so I decided to start hunkering down for the night. My tarp was acting as a wind breaker and as long as I was laying down I could still use my stove to cook my evening meal and enjoy another beer whilst the sun was setting.
The sun had set so I zipped myself in, got comfy in my fabric coffin and drifted off to sleep. I stirred a few times during the night and could tell that the wind was picking up. At the strike of 0130 I had to get up to the call of nature. I unzipped my tomb and was greeted by an impressive night's sky. Even without my glasses on it was still a sight to behold.
After a couple more stirrings I had to give in and wake up. I had missed the sunrise but the views were breathtaking. The sun was still fairly low in the sky and you could see the hills silhouetted in the morning low mist. I made myself a coffee and a bite to eat before psyching myself to embrace the elements and wrestle the wind to get my gear back into my pack. The sky had turned gloomy which was my cue to depart, have a quick look explore heading down the hill and make tracks back to the car.
It was a casually eventful camp but I came back feeling much more relaxed and de-stressed.

Cracking spot and the photo you posted of the trig at sunset was excellent.
Cheers dude. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Nice to see your video again. Interesting cave
Cheers Tina. I seem to put more effort into filming when I'm on my own as when I'm with others I tend to forget to film as I'm enjoying the company. Yeah I wish I had seen that cave before hand. The climbing around there are supposed to be easier grades so I'll definitely be heading back there. Thanks for watching.
@@grizzlydoutdoors5115 I have just been out in my new tent on a woodland camp. Trying out lightweight gear as I want to do the peak pilgrimage trail
@TinasOutdoorAdventures awesome. I hope the gear stood up to the test 🤙🏻
@@grizzlydoutdoors5115 it didn’t rain but all looks good just put a video up about it
Ill give it a viewing when I get chance
It was a pleasure meeting you at the peak District. You took a group pic for us. It's a shame we didnt get a selfie with you. I got a short video with you interacting with the cows from a distance, I can send to you if you want.
Cheers mate. It was great to meet you guys. Yeah that clip would be awesome as I was very much on edge 🤣
@@grizzlydoutdoors5115 From our perspective you were a chill cow whisperer. Where would you like me to send it through

Nice to see you back out Dave. Been past there on the bike a couple of times on the High Peak Trail.
Cheers mate. It's a beautiful place and did me the world of good.
I always thought it was “Bum Start” as in when A Bum Steals a Car.😂
I'm going to start calling it that 🤣🤣
Nice, nowt like jamming your fist into a good crack 😂
Yeah mate. 🤣🤣
It’s always shorts weather 😂 👍👍 so good to have you out with us again mate! Great vid of an awesome day. Thanks for sharing GD 👍😆
Oh yes, it's always shorts weather. I was glad I came out, I had forgotten how much fun the herd is. I'll definitely be making myself more available for future meets. Cheers guys and gals 💪🏻🍺
Awesome vid Dave! What a great camp it was dude! 😎 Apologies for taking ages to comment 😁 Yours and Marks Linkin park moment was legendary dude 😎👊🏻 Well sort a camp very soon mate 😎👊🏻
Cheers dude. I'm still waiting for your vid 🤣🤣 I'm glad that you captured me and mark at our best🤣 Yeah we need to sort out another camp dude 🤙🏻
@@grizzlydoutdoors5115 I’ll get on it soon haha! I promise 😎 I’ll drop my rota into the group chat and let’s get one locked in! 👊🏻
Yass
Cheers dude
Stretch Dave. Your no spring chicken any longer
Correct 🤣
Great. Nice spot u had there... Might try one day. Subbed 👍
Cheers dude
Excellent camp mate again soon 👊👊
For sure dude. The sooner the better. Thank Sarah for the grub 👍🏻
Nice to see you out again
Cheers Sarah. I get out when I can 😂
Nice spot that, and not too far away. Thanks for sharing Dave.
Cheers mate. I'm thinking of heading to some of the spots you have been at soon. Cheers for watching 🤙🏻
I love Birchen and Gardoms in the Autumn, beautiful camp spot. Great to see your channel growing GD! Take care mate
Thank you. I still need to explore Gardoms as I've only seen it from a far.
Great vid lovely! Good to see you back out!! What a lovely place to camp!🥰
Cheers K. Yeah I seem more determined this year to get out camping. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Nice hike and Vlog. Thank you for sharing,.
thanks for watching. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Enjoyed that , new sub here 👍🏻🏕
I'm glad that you liked it. Thanks for the sub, it means a lot 👍🏻
@@grizzlydoutdoors5115 always happy to support a fellow outdoor youtuber 👍🏻🏕
Ha ha I liked the morning scene mate. I only played it back 17 times 😂 Nice little flat spot there. Did you find any cider?
Ohh and thanks for rocking the merch ❤
Haha, that was the shortest I could cut that clip 😂😂 yeah it was an awesome spot. No look on the cider front. The map sent me down from a wall to a fallen tree, to which there were many 😂😂
Glad i didnt see that 'full moon' when I stayed there 😂 i loved that camp spot, its a beautiful place. Looked a perfect evening GD! Thanks for sharing 👍
It's certainly a sight to behold 😜. I'm sure that I will visit that place again. Thanks for watching 🤙🏻
is there an explicit version of this on only fans 😂 Nice ruins, do you know any history on them, Birchinlee related, or just abandoned farm/house from reservoir creation? Atb Mark
Haha, you know it 😂 No I don't have any history of them. I just wanted to go and see them as I loved how nature had taken back what was once there. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching mate. GD
Nice video and wild camp Dave. Thank you for sharing and take care 😊
Cheers mate. Thanks for watching
🙌🙌 yess!! Good to see you on the tube again GD!! And GJ!! Great vid mate, and the Vango lives on!
Cheers mate. I'm glad that I finally got round to posting a vid. The Vango lives on, but is taking a back seat due to my new cloud peak 2. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
@grizzlydoutdoors5115 excellent look forward to more vids! 👍
Nice one Dave. Looked nice weather for it 👍 You getting on ok with the tent?
That was its first outing out, but I had set it up twice in the garden. Yeah I like it, apart from the bottom of the fly being high. Months were dive bombing to get underneath it to get to the light 😂. I'm loving the larger double vestibules 🤙🏻 how are you guys doing?
@@grizzlydoutdoors5115 yeah good thanks Dave. Think the gap probably aids ventilation tbh. Unless your version has a higher gap I don't know. We try and avoid putting lights on in the tent unless the bedroom is zipped up. Made that mistake before and been bit in the night 🤕
Yeah I know what you mean. It was more having the fly zipped up while I hung out the bedroom having a cig. Need the light to make sure nothing gets burnt. I think I got most of my bites from the morning 😞
❤
Good shit bro. Keep on the grind King 👑 ❤👍
Cheers mate. Slowly building up ,🤙🏻
Even wikipedia's knowledge cannot explain TH-cam shorts
I hear ya, dude.
What's the crack with TH-cam in general!? 😅 It's voodoo magic mate!
@garethzoewildcamps. Certainly looks that way 🤣🤣
eeee zzzzzzz yyyyyy
🤙🏻🤙🏻
Keep going bro, enjoy the feel.

nice one Dave, great effort for a great cause. Makes us want to do it all again. It's a fantastic route. 👍👍
I'm gutted that I don't think I'll be able to do back marker again this year, but I'll be volunteering again for sure.

Nice one, done a few charity things myself over the years, usually air ambulance though. Done most edges in this but not in one day lol who knows maybe September 😆
Cheers for watching mate. As you enjoy your running I'd encourage you to sign up for the challenge in September. it's a great day. I'll be helping out this year in some form, but dint think I'll be fit enough to be back marker again. Keep up the good work mate. 👍🏻👍🏻
Well done Dave great effort from you and the Mountain Rescue 👏
Cheers mate. It was a great day and opportunity. But it was also a long day. Especially with it being a day after a beer festival 🤣.

Let us know if you are out and about mid week and we'll come have a brew mate, knackered ankle permitting obviously. Cheers mate. Means a lot. Yeah I'll give you a shout the next time we plan a brew with a view. I'll be back before you know it (hopefully)
Nice one Dave, hope you get healed up soon buddy and hope to see some more camp vids this year, you're a top bloke and glad to see you doing well 👍🏻Gareth & Zoe
Thanks G&Z. Yeah I hope I heal soon too as it's starting to get boring 🤣. I keep pushing myself but also being careful too. Cant wait to replace the boot with any kind of foot wear 😃
Nice to see you mate! You’ve had some bad luck, well done for letting us know how you are, what you’ve been through, very brave! Hope to see you soon someplace, so where?
Cheers mate. Yeah it's been unfortunate, but I'm seeing it as a wake up call and to pull my head out my arse 🤣 it's tough but I keep pushing myself and not letting it hold me back. I'll be out as soon as I can be. You can't keep a good man down 🤣🤙🏻 cheers for your support mate.
