1932 was middle of the Great Depression. Maybe rich people ate this stuff
I remember my mother used to always have small jar like a mustard jar at the back of the stove filled with bacon grease my favourite thing to do was to put the bacon grease in the pan and fry the bread. It was so delicious little bit of salt, a little bit of ketchup young I used to have it when I came home from school❤❤❤
It sounds like that recipe for the last cake for the chocolate cake so delicious no eggs just yummy. Very fudgy. I should make that again. The recipe is somewhere here. my grandmother used to make chocolate vinegar cake. It was so good.t
you can forrage alot more things
poke salad
and make dandelion jam
repeats from breakfast and our food has become contaminated
except now there is so much shit in our foods--- bread is not the same, corn is gmo with roundup, corn syrup? to sweeten stuff YUK again gmo, yes i love cream of wheat and cinnamon/sugar toast....the hot cocoa sounds dreadful....our base food supply is so tainted now....with toxins.
I don’t know if I missed the full ingredients and directions for these recipes. does anybody know Where they are??? Thank you 🙏
"Servive"? Did you burn the dictionary to keep warm on winter nights?
Would love to get my hands on all these recipes ❤
My fav cost effective food being a single mother back in the 80’s was Bannock, or some people would call it cloud bread with simplest ingredients flour, salt, lard & water to make a very yummy fluffy or flat bread and if I made enough tips that month I’d purchase peanut butter and jam my girls favourite snack as a toast for breakfast or a fluffy one with soup for dinner they’re now in their late 30’s and still ask me to make it for them in 2025.
Shocked hearing the costs, but remembering eating and loving every bite as a kid mid 60-70s But the cost on todays version is wayyyyyy off for I’ve bought most of these ingredients and made them and cost is definitely higher especially here in Canada now but going to open up my moms and grandmas recipes during the 30 grandma’s recipes and 70’s my moms recipes now it’s my turn to learn about cost effective meals thank you😋🇨🇦
Hot water cornbread was a staple in my growing up years and into My family's table. I Never serve homemade soup or Beans without this delicious bread substitute . It is A Wonderful taste and always reminds me of my Mother's Kitchen. Fred in bacon drippings ,there is Nothing better dipped in the homemade vegetable soup. 👍☺️✌️🩷🙏
I'm searching for the potato coffee cake recipe..
Thank You 💕💙 God Bless All of Us Father in Heaven in Jesus Name Amen. From Lawrence Gladys And Son Simon. Adult Children And Grand Children. East London England Handsome Beautiful..
Pinwheel sandwiches were around in the 1950s . Only they were made with traditional bread, not the flour tortillas shower in this video. A lot of your footage is to modern for the food it is trying to describe !
And if you use almond paste and a bit of pear juice or even apple juice although pear juice is better you will get a butter substitute that tastes exactly like butter and will full most people that you serve it to the problem with most large is the high cholesterol and fat content.
My father taught me how to pick the dandelions and how to even find other greens that you could use to make a salad and I've taught my kids how to find something called Queen Anne's Lace it is wild carrot and can be found all over you want the young version not the old version because like older carrots the centers tend to be not very tasty.
Except that the ingredients to make a good bread pudding require milk eggs and sugar which in and of themselves tend to be expensive but you can make it without those ingredients if you know the substitutes, and it's snowing how to substitute that can stretch a bread pudding and make it viable to those on a very tight budget.
I used to love making bread pudding unfortunately can't do that anymore as I'm not allowed anymore.
I've been making cakes without using either eggs butter or anything like that and without using things like that for a very long time.
iif you are so stupid that you cannot spell the word "survive" correctly then why would I click on your crap channel? I wouldn't. eff off.
Another recipe video that describes meals but actually never gives a recipe.
In my family potato soup was called something or other kartuful not sure that's how it's spelled but it literally means in German I believe potato soup I only remember the word for potato not the word for soup because my brain doesn't work very well lately and the word for potato was too cute.
I'm not Chinese but I knew this recipe from my father who picked it up along his travels during his time during the Korean War and it is the easiest soup to make and the most filling.
Stone soup my father used to tell how in the concentration Camp it was a holding camp how he and for boys would steal the garbage scraps which were exactly what you described and make from it with the help of the grown-ups the soup that you're describing and it would feed most of the people in that camp and how dangerous it was to steal those scraps, the one who got the Short straw hat the hard part of literally lying down on the floor outside the cooking pot of the soldiers you know the Nazis and sticking his hand into their garbage bin to try to get as many scraps as he could grab my father was not very long legged he was a short boy and when it was his turn and they called out guards coming and he had to make a run for it... I'm not going to finish the story but I will say that from him I learned that nothing should go to waste.
Johnny Marzetti is similar to goulash that I make! I also make Johnny Marzetti, the grands love it!
You know a lot of people never thought that this would probably happen again but when they start erasing history right in front of your face and taken down statues and all this other crap you know history is about to repeat itself so you better get down with it and start learning these ways again because it's going to happen again unfortunately
My grandma was a child in the Depression. She told me all about it. It was bananas. 😊❤
Slumgulleon? Looks like goulash. 😊❤
The pork scrap and corn mean fryup has a dutch version (pretty old) called Balkenbrij. Its buckwheat, spices like nutmeg and cloves, and pork fat or any other bits. Well, the one i eat is only with pork fat. No clue about the exact recipe but with modern translation options you will easily be able to get your hands on it. HOWEVER. My mom used to make her own and it took her a few attempts to get it right.
I grew up with alot of these cause we were dirt poor and my parents grew up in the depression and the best meal I have ever had was Corn Chowder my mother actually cooked in a pot in the fireplace when I was around three or four years old and I still remember Dandelion Greens & Vinegar to this day...
Great video…..unbelievably annoying background music, if you can call it music.
Thank you for these recipes. During COVID-19, flour was hard to find. And prices are out of control each day. ❤
I would love those cornbread patties!! 😀
These AI videos are starting to impress me honestly
Relying on AI makes people think you're mentally feeble. Not because you're too lazy to read a script, but because the AI is reading the script you wrote. Unless of course you let AI write your script, generate your images AND narrate. In that case, just don't post. It's so much easier and everyone would actually appreciate it.
We are heading to another depression support your local farmer
Ground beef isn't cheap anymore
Yes, our grandparents were way better than we are now. If you learned from them, you are just as good. Most of us now are a bunch of spoiled weenies. We GET to make as much money as we want and we DON'T have to pay high prices for things. If there's no demand, there's no market.
SErvive 😱 REALLY ???
Some of these have been mostly forgotten by the younger generations. I hate food waste, and my wife and kids don't eat the skins on potatoes. I can fry them instead of throwing them out. Bead pudding from stale bread is similar. Making broth out of bones instead of throwing them out. Wonder how many solutions there are to the food waste issue. Saving money is a nice bonus, but stopping food waste is even better.
I still make baked Alaska pudding. Have one half done in the freezer, just need the meringue. And I make mine in the oven, not with a torcher.
People were dropping dead of malnutrition.
That minced beef wellington looks good. I'm going to try that
Everyone stopped eating junket when yoghurt became more generally available. Blancmange, baked alaska, queen of puddings and other trifle type desserts are still popular in many homes in UK
I make Crazy Chocolate cake pretty regularly. My guys love the denser texture. I also have a recipe for frosting that is made from milk and flour.
Most of these are new to me, and I am 77 years old, and spent most of the 1960s in a very up-scale city, where the latest and greatest was served daily!
My mom’s oxtail stew and regular beef stew were the best I ever ate. I remember being at a friends house for the weekend and her mom said we were going to have beef stew for dinner and I told her that I loved it. When it was dinner time and I took a big spoonful 😢put in my mouth, I was dismayed. It wasn’t anything like my mom’s. But I couldn’t be rude so I ate it anyway. But, after that I had to try beef stew whenever I found it. Then I had to try every different recipe for it. Never found one as good. So I finally asked Mom. She said fresh sweet basil out of the garden was the secret. While I had used basil before, it was dried. Those slight differences make it or break it.
