Happy new year to you both. Safe sailing in 2025
Thank you wave dancer , Have a great sailing season this year 😊 David & Helen
The last time I was on the Isle of Scilly nearly thirty years ago (1995) I sat at that very bar before leaving on the Scillonian III after a two week stay. I thought I would be back sometime must put it on my to-do list.
The Isles Of Scilly is just amazing we didn't get to do all the islands but we will be back some day. It seems to have a good ferry service and regular flights. Thank you as always for commenting and hope you have a great Christmas David & Helen
@@sailinggemini Thank you. Have a fantastic Christmas.
A loveley place ,Fish n chips from the caravan in Porthcressa are always my first treat after the crossing.👍
Hi Paul Porthcressa was so beautiful we would definitely go back we where gutted that we didn't get to do more of the Islands but they will be there for the next time. Thank you for commenting and have a lovely Christmas David & Helen.
@sailinggemini Merry Christmas to you both, safe sailing.
Crikey. I have seen auburn lass in Dun Laoighaire marina before. We had a Scottish yacht smack into us early morning in port Erin. We ran out in pjs to push boat off us and get fenders between us (our 3 boys were still small and having breakfast) We called a pan pan because the weight of the vessel was starting to push us towards the broken pier under the water. RNLI station as you know is just across from the anchorage. They were brilliant. Other vessel never said sorry or thanks for our help they just fecked off.
Hi Guys it wasn't great at the time but the crew owner of the boat has contact us since and we are all good now. The RNLI was amazing . Where our you sailing at the moment
@ not sailing. In the yard Arzal, south Brittany. Plan Atlantic France, Spain and Portugal for 2025. Merry Christmas and safe new year
Wow! Absolutely stunning. Another place I wish we'd visited. Even more clear than vadt parts of the Caribbean. The weather looked beautiful ⛵️🥰
@@SailingSVCordelia Thank you guys,it was amazing. I would definitely recommend it, the swell was hard to put up with but great walks and loads to do. Hopefully we can join you in the real Caribbean at some point! 😊
Is that a Watkins Sea Wolf 30? We might buy one, it’s a 1989.
Hi Sorry about the late reply our boat is a Sea Wolf 30 twin Keel built by David Feltham in 1984. They are a great boat Gemini is coming up for sale next year as we our looking to travel further afeild. David & Helen
The water in the Isles is stunning. Always love seeing how clean it is. Saw the Turks head was for sale when we were in the IoS in June. Most south westerly pub in the UK Those succulents are a member of the crassula species
Thank you, we’ve brought one home so hopefully it’ll flourish in the IOM. We couldn’t believe how clear the water was, we just felt so lucky to be able to get out there, hopefully we’ll get to visit again and explore some more . David & Helen 😊
@ our third visit to the isles but first without our boys this year. 4 of the inhabited islands visited so far. Still have to go to St martins missed water taxi to the island.
Great video. One day I will get there. The plant looks like a Tree Aoenium. And the pots are probably made from Willow.
Thank you! You definitely need to get out there, it was such a unique experience. We’ve also been told that the pots are made out of Hazel, either way, so clever. Nice to see that the old ways of doing things being upheld.
My boats in hull we sailed for 5 years on 200 a month. As I gave my job up and that's how long the money would last. Great times
Hi Darren that’s amazing to hear that you could sail on a small budget for so long I bet it was the best times there’s just something about been at sea and finding new places . Thank you so much for commenting. David & Helen
Poor cow! Your audio is much better on this episode. Have you done something different? Well done on getting to the Scilly Isles. Look forward to your next episode 🥰⛵️😎
Hi Guys sorry it took so long to reply we have had a busy few weeks . I have definitely seen better cows lol 😂. We use an old GoPro 6 and if we keep it out of the wind it’s ok but that isn’t easy on a small boat . We have just been using CapCut free version so maybe we need to upgrade for better quality. The Isles of Scilly was amazing thank you for commenting. David & Helen 😊
It really is a great achievement. Congratulations on overcoming so many problems and keeping cheerful 🥂
Thank you Judith it’s a great achievement for us . Thank you so much for following us on our journey. 😊
Aww poor cow. Had to laugh how excited you were thinking it was a whale. Agree you aren't sailing around the UK if you are going through the canals. Great work 👏
Hi guys yes I got really excited I thought it was wale or something lol 😂 I definitely think if you our going around the Uk do it properly and experience as much as you can . Thank you for commenting guys . 😊
Sooo jealous!!, due to the bad weather we had in June, we had to skip the Scillies on our round the UK trip, & had to continue round Lands End, ( luckily we too enjoyed the company of the Dolphins for most of the trip). Look forward to your next instalment. Fair winds xx
Sorry to hear you didn’t make it out to the Scilly Isles we nearly give up after waiting 3 weeks but it was worth it we need to go back again definitely. Thank you as always for your great comments and following our journey. David & Helen 😊
John subscribed on his private account. I subscribed ages ago on our channel account
Thank you 😊 we have been following yous
Surprised Helen didn’t frying pan you for the comment about her not eating for a few days before going up the mast😂
Helen would love to hit me with the frying pan loads lol 😂
Brilliant. Well done!
Thank you it’s been amazing so far . As always thank you so much for commenting and taking the time to follow us 😊
Love the Isles of Scilly, last time was this summer end of June. Took 29 hours from Carnesore point in Ireland to get to New Grimsby sound. Blessed with dolphins galore as you can see in our video just released
Hi wave dancer we had a great time in the Isles of Scilly we definitely need to go back we didn’t get to do it all due to bad weather coming in . I have watched your videos nice footage of the Dolphins 🐬. Thank you for commenting. David & Helen
Great video have fun you two
Thank you for watching and hope you enjoyed it! David and Helen.
Should you not report the cow in the water to the coastguard, in case someone thinks it's a body in the water if seen from the shore. I ask as a landlubber
Hi Steven we didn’t report it but we will in future if we come across something it was our first time experiencing something like this . Thank you for commenting and following our journey. David & Helen
When you make a pan-pan or any other call on VHF you contact the Coastguard, not the RNLI. The Coastguard make the decision based on their local knowledge and don't rely on visiting sailors to take a guess. Lee shore, potentially no propulsion = pan-pan call.
Thank you Alistair, you are completely right, there are some people who haven't got a clue what they are talking about! Thank you for commenting David & Helen
We’ve just boat a boat and brand new to sailing so forgive my ignorance. Who gets to charge you if you are not on their buoy or their pontoon. What do they do if you tell them to piss off
Hi Houstandy, I think there was a few people when we were there that told them that they were not paying, we just didn't want to chance it so I don't know what happens if you refuse to pay! Let us know if you find out lol. Thank you for commenting and we hope you have a great time with your new boat. David & Helen
Love Helford River. One of my favourite places to sail. Shame it was spolit by the incident with the other boat. It would be polite to share details in case there was an issue.
Hi Ann it was so nice up the Helford River. Some times things go wrong but we were ok in the end. Thank You for commenting.
How rude! You walked 100 yards away from my front door and you didn't call in to say hello. Its not till you see where you have lived all your life that you appreciate it till you see it through someone else's viewpoint.
Thank you Patrick it would have been nice to meet you. We could not believe how beautiful the place was we will defiantly be back David and Helen
Fantastic David we will always have Albufiera xxx
Thank you nice meeting you .
How stupid can people be. They move to where you are , to close , than drop an anchor and wait. These morons don’t know about anything .. what about the circle needed to be safe on anchoring. Why do people not learn about this.
Thank you for commenting MonkPetite and following our journey David & Helen
I'm glad you've taken the time to explore some rivers and estuaries and you've found some hidden gems "Far from the Madding Crowd"
Thanks for the comment and for watching our videos. Yes we have found some lovely hidden gems, it was well needed to go up there after the incident in the previous video! David and Helen.
Had a yacht drag past us in the Solent a few years ago in Newtown Bay. Heard the anchor cables rattle together and I was awake and up in a moment, the other boat was being held off by a naked man, I was in my underpants and tee shirt. I immediately shouted to my wife “quick darling there is a naked man out here!” This got her up pretty quickly as well, and we all sorted things out straight away. His girlfriend wasn’t as amused as we were. Point is that nudity is no bar to safety so why did Auburn Lass not get stuck in straight away and if you drag the onus is on you to sort it out.
With Mylor, the marina office is only open 8am to 8pm. So if you arrive to the visitors pontoon after 8pm, you can go anywhere you want and if you leave before 8am nobody knows you have been there, not that I would ever leave early before paying 😊🤫
Hi Tommo! Thanks for the comment and info :-) We left Stonehaven early and the harbour man was waiting at 5am for the money! Thanks for watching.
Glad you had such a great time with us, loving watching your videos. Keep them coming. All the best, Simon
Hi Simon, great to meet you and the other staff! Thanks for looking after us - we will highly recommend the marina to others we come across. Hope to see you out sailing soon! David and Helen.
Falmouth is my nearest port and FHC are absolute vultures. Aggressive policing of car parking and boat mooring. Embarrassing every time I take anyone in there. Skip it and go to Fowey or St Mawes where they actually like visitors.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for the info, we will try the other places next time! David and Helen.
Glad it turned out OK! We also waited over a week to round Land’s End and when we did, the weather forecast was incorrect. As we rounded, we got blasted with F6 northerlies! Hope your passage is smoother!
Hi Guys! Thanks for the comment. We eventually got round and made it to the Isles of Scilly. Hope your sailing is going well! David and Helen.
Great video. The Helford is lovely. You handled yourselves really well in an awful situation. It's great there was no damage.
Hi guys, thanks for the comments. Yes it was a very early morning rude wake up call! Herford Sailing Club have actually been in touch with us since to apologise and even bought us some coffees!
What a ✊glad you guys are ok.
Thanks for watching and the nice comments! David and Helen.
They are from milford marina I believe so easy for your insurance company to contact them
Thanks for the info - Hereford Sailing Club have since been in touch on behalf of the crew and offered their apologies. Thanks for watching!
I really like the fact that your video is lots of dialogue .
Hi Sandy, thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed the video, and hope you enjoy more to come! David and Helen.
What a bunch of shits. Didnt set their anchor and were clearly incompetent. Someone must know who these idiots are?
I’d be having her lifted and get the prop and shaft checked, at their expense. At least you have video evidence
Thanks for watching and the comment. We didn't have the boat lifted, but we did have it checked, and no damage that we can see. Hereford Sailing Club have been in touch with us since the incident and apologised and kindly bought us coffees!
Not sure what route you are taking but on your journey if you head along the Dorset coast pop into Lulworth Cove, it looks tight as you approach it but opens up, there are mooring buoys and a decent anchorage.
Thank you for the info and for watching the video. Yes we have been to Lulworth Cove, and are heading clockwise now. We are heading back to the Isle of Man!
If you look up Hereford Sailing Club, it seems that Auburn Lass operates on a shared ownership basis. I would contact Hereford Sailing Club.
Thanks again for watching and the comments! Hereford Sailing Club have been in touch to apologise on behalf of the crew. Thanks for sharing the info.
Can't understand why you made a pan pan call and had lifeboats escort you. Was this before you was able to start your engine and move safely away ?
In a lee shore situation with a potentially damaged/fouled prop, and especially with another vessel impinging, a pan-pan call is appropriate. A pan-pan call is for a situation where assistance is needed but there isn't immediate danger to the vessel or life. A situation like that could easily become much more serious very quickly which would make it too late for assistance to arrive. It's easy to be critical when not in the situation and it's not your boat at risk.
@@turbinia Potentially damaged ? Well, starting the engine and seeing if the boat has drive would've been my first call. If not, then on the radio for assistance.
Im afraid this an appalling use of the RNLI. Two Mark1 vessels for that? The LB is for dire emergencys only. All u needed to do once free was sail to a bouy and then sort it out... phone a friend.
Ridiculous waste of RNLI time money and resources! Did no other boats offer help or assistance. You need more training
@@turbinia Worlds gone mad. Firstly hes way too close to those rocks to start with so not the other boats fault. Its called a sailing boat and hes got two flippin grt sails. Way to many people needing help thru lack of 'Seamanship'.
I'm loving this journey because you're going to places we've never been. Ponzance looked awesome. What bloody idiots Auburn Lass were. Hopefully they or someone sees this who knows them and asks them to apologise, probably no insurance. Makes me so cross. Great video and loved the anchorage ⛵️🥰
Thanks for the nice comments, and glad you enjoyed the video. Hereford Sailing Club have since been in touch to apologise on behalf of the crew. Thanks for watching!
Yes, name and shame and perhaps a visit. I know i would😮
Thanks for commenting and watching! The guys at Hereford Sailing Club have been in touch with us to give us some further background and kindly bought us some coffees!
Home port is Milford Haven. We used to berth there but don't know them.......Hope you don't encounter them again on west coast as you pass.
Thanks for commenting and watching! Thanks for the info, Hereford Sailing Club have been in touch with us to apologise and kindly invited us for a chat.
