As in, we give our whole hearts/selves to a cause and/or our relationships until there's nothing left but an "empty box" only to have tragedy or someone cruelly kick a hole in said wall we put so much love, time, and effort into building. Then, at 3:13 "I put nothing into the box of bricks/I do not want to lose anything/I hid the bricks from you/I am once again building with bricks" can also be taken metaphorically to mean the efforts and love we put into our causes and our relationships. When we are hurt too many times, we tend to build walls (pun intended) between ourselves and others, in an effort to spare ourselves from further pain. But even when we do our best to not care, I think we still often end up caring in the end anyway and, although it's painful losing the relationships you've cultivated/people you've come to care about, we humans still will rebuild, forming new relationships, over and over. In my relatively short life so far, I've come to understand that whether you try to befriend others or push everybody away, either way you still feel pain. Isolating yourself just to avoid getting hurt only leads to greater pain in the end because you wind up alone and full of regret for all the opportunities missed. Besides, no man is an island, and no matter how hard you try you can't stop yourself completely from forming attachments to others. But on the bright side, we can't stop ourselves completely from forming attachments to new people, forming new relationships, so that even though no one and nothing can replace the ones you've lost, they do help to fill the void and make our lives that much more enriched. Humans are stubborn animals, even when all hope seems lost we still carry on with the embers in our hearts.
