Some stellar faces are drawn in this issue with a forgettable antagonist. Japan is threatened by MAGNUM. Things heat up as the X-folk and Sunfire try and stop his evil deeds. Dave Gordon returns to talk about Bob Oksner's work in Angel and the Ape. This comic book from 1968 is a super fun, campy window into the era. Oksner's work is unbelievably beautiful with perfect ink lines. Dave lets us in on his slight connection to Hollywood and the sitcom world that Dave adores. Dave Gordon talks BEING GORDY: A Situation Comedy
มุมมอง 6628 วันที่ผ่านมา
Dave Gordon has created something special. He has successfully connected the dots between the 3- camera sitcom and the comic book. Being Gordy has taken a wild ride from a pitch for a syndicated comic strip, to a graphic novel, to a television script and back to graphic novel. The "PILOT" issue is hilarious and charming, using the tropes of both comics and sitcoms to blend into what amounts to ...

@MrCrook and I take a look at our mutual favorite character and his favorite run. Nestor Redondo's work is sort of missed in the conversation when most people talk about Swamp Thing. His run began immediately after Bernie Wrightson, so it's often skimmed over. But upon closer look, the Filipino master shows us all a thing or two about a thing or two when it comes to storytelling and inking. Wat...

I just ordered a couple of the X-Men T-shirts!____ i can't wait til they arrive ( one is a gift 🎁 👕)
Awesome! Thanks for that. You're going to make so many people jealous.
Yeah, john Byrne Canadian for sure 🇨🇦
Chris Claremont's mother was a pilot, which may have inspired him to feature women pilots so frequently. The Canadian, Byrne apparently hated the name "Vindicator," reading it very literally, saying "Canada had nothing to vindicate!" So in the first issue of Alpha Flight, he has Jim Hudson chat with Shaman about the name change to Guardian, literally putting Byrne's own words in Shaman's mouth.
This issue really hits home how Alpha Flight managed to trap the X-Men in Canada and my favorite part would have to be when Sasquatch just grabs Wolverine and slams him back and forth until he is knocked out. I also want to mention that I hope everyone is safe due to the recent wildfires around Los Angeles as well as the recent hurricanes in the southeast last year as well. Until then, be X-Cellent Bub.
Great video and discussion. Classic OG D&D art is the absolute best. There is so much imagination in those early "crude" drawings, they are just perfect. Also, Errol Otis covers are the bomb. They are 100% better than anything they produce now.
One of my life 's regret....i could have bought this book at my buddies garage sell when i was a little kid. ( Im old, lol )____ i would have gotten into the X-Men book sooner i believe. Me and my younger cousins first newsstand buy was 121 instead
Hello,... Yeah me and my younger Cousin always saw The imperial Guard as Legion of super-Heroes ripoffs, lol___ we would match up which character was which 😊
Nice drawing. Hope everyone is safe due to the wildfires in LA and the major snow storm across much of the USA.
Thanks! The fires were all around but so far so good.
I thought it was in reference to the size of condoms he buys.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
This may be one of the best Banshee stories in the X-Men comics as he may have lost his sonic scream powers to prevent Moses Magnum from destroying Japan and when the X-Men throw a surprise Christmas party when he arrives at Sunfire’s house is just so wholesome. Also, I usually don’t like retcons but the added story of Apocalypse saving Magnum and giving him actual powers is a nice touch even though he would not technically appear until X-Factor in the late 80s.
I have all 6 in almost perfect condition that I got at a garage sale for $10 for all
That’s awesome. Such a good series.
Armageddon now!_____ i luv it Guys , i have xmen Classic 1 thru 30...i have to find them on the porch 📚
That’s great, man! Glad you’re digging it.
Bob drew some attractive women. I liked this series a lot
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. I love that we learn that Wolverine can read and speak Japanese which adds a new dimension to his mysterious character. His meeting with Mariko was interesting at how he acts gentle with her compared to his rough demeanor with his fellow X-Men. Oh and Sunfire is still a jerk!
Merry Christmas! .... thanks for this gift 🎁
This is so awesome Guys.... I love all this good X stuff
Thanks! I'm so glad you've joined the club. I for one am having the best time and drawing the thumbnails.
Thanks for this,.... Also i love the Cartoon episode of : the Shadow King ( in Ororo voice 🗣️)
117 is such a great issue. Shadow King intro and the best Professor X issue in the run. The development of Lilandra is also really nice. If you come at the X-Men in the 80s, 90s or later, Lilandra is mostly absent, but reading earlier, she was developed as a full cast member/ side member in the ongoing story. She's another great character, like Banshee, that eventually gets left behind. It was great to have Matt back on too. That paperback book version he shared was totally awesome.
We finally get to see a bit more of Professor X’s backstory beyond the original 1960s run as we look into Xavier’s first encounter with the evil telepath Amahl Farouk. The astral battle was incredible with all of those designs and the three panels of Farouk just dropping dead on the table as the Professor walks out of the Cafe is incredible. And to think that a young Storm who stole from the Professor would be one of the catalysts other than meeting Farouk in him later forming the X-Men. Just a lot of poetic stuff. Claremont is excellent with big ideas in his storytelling
@@MichaelEspey-hp1jt its great stuff.
Great review
Nestor's art was fantastic! But I always thought he was a bad fit for Swamp Thing. His art was too tight and controlled. To me, Bissette/Totleben had the best style for Swamp Thing. They had a wonky, off-kilter effect that enhanced the horror. And Swampy finally looked like he was made out of swamp rather than steroid Gumby.
Ha! I completely get where you're coming from. I think he had to go through the growing pains and be molded into the Moore era. I perfer texture myself, but we never would have gotten there without these guys.
To be fair, Man-Thing had texture from the get-go. :)) I always wondered about what went on behind the scenes between Marvel and DC. I absolutely do not believe it was a coincidence that Man-Thing and Swamp Thing came out within two months of each other. Man-Thing was a more interesting design, but clearly just a rework of The Heap. Mebbe Swamp Thing's green clay sculpture look was a conscious attempt to be as far away from that as possible?
Wein and Conway were roommates at the time which I’m sure is no coincidence.
Oh wow, mystery solved! :))
This is the issue where we see Wolverine as more than a hothead that just mouths off and butts heads with Cyclops as we see both his ruthless and yet compassionate nature with killing the guard and dinosaur yet allowing Storm to cope with failing in saving Garokk without Banshee’s prodding.
Agreed
This feels like the turning point for Wolverine. They are really pushing him as the teams BA now. I can see this being the point he gets popular.
Thanks for this guys.... Legendary content 😊
Wow … I had that Spider-Man toy from the inside of the cover of the comic … you guys just took me back
Really impressive artwork. In a way it made me think about Eraserhead from David Lynch. Her work in that book feels like it's from that same dream like world. Great stuff!
I love comics like this. Totally more entertaining to learn and read about than mainstream. Finally another cool channel.
What a fantastic issue! Sauron turning Wolverine against the X-Men was great and then Colossus turning into his armored form forces Sauron to turn back into his human form of Karl Lykos. Ka-Zar and his Saber-Tooth Tiger Zabu showing up is cool and to conclude, Colossus loses his virgin to two women off panel that he saved from a T-Rex.
RIP Sam Scott Williams has a TH-cam channel with only one video one it. He inks a panel from a Jim Lee page. Brush only. That's pretty well the only example I could find of him inking on camera other than a short video of him inking a commission at a con where he does it all with a brush pen. th-cam.com/video/eVfN3GQ5RIs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=47hcWE_HoIQ_zH8H
I think the face looks good. A little wonky adds charisma and charm. Great video as always.
RIP Sam ❤
Stoked for the new issue 🎉
Agreed!
this series has been amazing.
Great talk. Steve's comics are so much fun to read. His energy and enthusiasm really comes across on the page. And he's a great guy, got to talk with him at last years IC3 show, a real top class creator. Everyone should own these comics.
Hell yeah!
My birthday month issue!
What a great issue! When Wolverine is thrown by Colossus into the pterodactyl to rescue Banshee and kills it and says he likes the Savage Land, I kind of laughed. There are some great moments and then the quiet gets interrupted when Sauron absorbs Storm’s life essence to regain his Dino form and that ending panel was just chef’s kiss.
Regarding your nib issues, do you prep them first? Most nibs come with an oil (I think) coating on them from the factory. You need to either wash them with soap and water or use some rubbing alcohol on them to remove the coating. Took me a year of thinking I was getting bum nibs before someone told me this.
@@davepraetorius see. That should have been obvious to me. I figured the oil was to make the ink flow smoother and so it wouldn’t rust as quickly. But that makes sense. Thank you so much!
One of the best, if not the best, comic to come out in 2024.
This series has been so good.
Agreed! Can’t wait to read the finale.
100%
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
SAM KEITH - AWESOME ARTIST, ALWAYS UNDERRATED!!!
My favorite issue!
This Issue was great! My favorite part was when Magneto returned to his underground volcanic base, he was ambushed by the X-Men and they actually worked together as a team to almost beat Magneto but then the base fell apart and it seemed like Beast and Phoenix survived only to fall into unconsciousness in the Antarctic blizzard. Great Stuff!
Fun issue. Great action, awful villains, great Professor and Lilandra moment, cool Storm stuff, and lots of other interesting stuff going on.
This Issue was so awesome! Once again, Magneto whoops the X-Men’s butts but the team puts up a bit more of a fight due to Phoenix being with them. My favorite part was when Magneto took control of Wolverine’s claws and it seemed like he was about to stab him in the face before the short feisty mutant himself retracted them and he punches himself into unconsciousness. Still, Magneto was being petty when he trapped the X-Men, and Beast, in chairs that revert them to an infant-like state and having an evil robot nanny take care of them is both silly and torture I think.
Sorry, just reread that Magneto used his magnetic powers to retract Wolverine’s claws and forces the feisty mutant scrapper to punch himself into unconsciousness. My bad.
Great issue guys. I feel like anyone with like the most basic hypnotic/mind abilities can take over Jean. It seem to happen a lot.
“Oh my Stars and Garters! Another Chris Anderson X-Men review has just uploaded my friends”. Sorry, I couldn’t resist putting that joke in. Beast is in my top ten favorite x-men list and he was just great in this issue, especially trying to resist Mesmero’s hypnotism. Wolverine slapping Jean to shake of her hypnotic state only for her to use her Phoenix powers on him is so 70s. The reveal of Magneto at the end is so good as we will soon get into one of the X-Men’s most famous battles with the master of magnetism himself next issue.
The Byrne/Claremont run on Marvel Team-up is fantastic especially the 2-parter with Captain Britain in Murderworld. Lot's of X-Men adjacent stuff there. You guys are about to hit my favorite X-men comics with the next videos and it won't let up for the next 30-something issues.
