    Great video, beautiful images and beautiful prints. I completely agree with your description of Arches 88: I have recently given it a go and have been utterly impressed by it. Really impressive that they managed to get to that level of brightness with no OBA’s: that alone has been enough to convince me to switch from a competitor’s paper that, while beautiful, utilizes OBA’s to achieve comparable results. In addition, just like you said, it has incredible dmax for a matt paper as well as remarkable sharpness. The Arches line made me a believer! Thanks again for a great video.

    Hi. After printing for years using only Infinity Baryta Photographique I'm now experimenting with matt papers, so I have found this series to be very helpful. Thank you. You did not cover the Aquarelle Rag paper, which has a heavyish texture and I'm wondering what you think of it and where you might consider using it.

      @ChrisCeaserPhotography 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Aquarelle is a beautifully textured, heavy paper, very much like a watercolour paper that artists use. I do use this, but mainly for photos that have a very painterly look and feel, maybe shots that have an ethereal look too. For my images that are more traditional, which is most of my work I guess, I use the more photographic papers like the gloss or the smoother matts. Hope that helps. I will add a video one day for the aquarelle. Chris

    Chris, txs - Trying to decide if I want to go with Platine or Baryta II. Your comment about Platine resolution was interesting. I ran a resolution test chart on Platine vs Baryta II. At least on the P7500 the Baryta shows higher resolution. Probably because ink is bleeding more on Platine. Canson recommend -15 Ink Density for their Platine profile. Platine images do look more lively, because the prints are more reflective, but I think that's going to be a real pain, except in perfect lighting.

      Hi! I recently purchased the Epson et-8550/l8180 printer and I’m testing papers. So far, hahnemuhle is not such a great option for this printer, especially since they don’t provide profiles for it. Now I’m looking into Canson and I was wondering if you can recommend a paper for fine art automotive photography, with a lot of black, dark areas and gradients. I will probably get a test pack, but I would appreciate any advice. Also, Canon Velvet Fine Art paper might be an option. Thank you!

    Is it much different to Arches BFK Pure White?

    • @ChrisCeaserPhotography
      @ChrisCeaserPhotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim. That's a good question! The Pure White has a whiteness rating of 97.29(/100) and the White has a rating of 85.32. This means that the Pure White will be able to represent the white areas of the print closer to what they were in reality. if you think about it, how much 'white' do we see in landscape photography? Maybe water rushing over a fall, or down a stream? In these cases the Pure White will give you a whiter result in those areas. the White paper also represents these areas nicely, albeit a little warmer, but I do use both paper types for areas with water. So why would I choose either one? Well, if it was a strong mono conversion with deep blacks and white water falling down a cascade I would select the Pure White. If the image had less water, and more colour in the surroundings, fallen leaves etc., and the water was no longer the main subject then I might choose the White as the warmer tone of the whites might work better with the colours in the rest of the image. I guess I might simplify this as saying 'If I want my photograph to shout out (when using white areas like flowing water) then I choose Pure White. Both papers will display the colours in the same way, and both are beautiful, handle really well and are a pleasure to use. I speak as a photographer of course. A painter may use lots more white in their paintings, and, after reproducing the painting for printing then I could see them choosing the Pure White as it will allow them to reproduce their colours more accurately if using white paints etc. As always, things come down to personal choice and Canson have given us all, photographers and painters alike, more options with these new papers that will give us more flexibility when it comes to getting our work and ideas down on paper.

    Great to see both color and black and white examples. Some people say color is best on the glossier papers (gloss, luster, satin, etc.) but you've shown that matte papers like this can retain plenty of contrast and richness of colors. Thanks for sharing. I'll be interested to see if at the end of your series your still using primarily your three gotos: Rag Photographique, Platine Fibre Rag, and Baryta Prestige.

    • @ChrisCeaserPhotography

      Hi Tristan. yes, some of the new papers are stunning. My main core will still be the 3 you mentioned PLUS the Arches 88. I will also use BFK Rives when I need a slight texture and possibly the Baryta Photographique II Matt. There is such a range now, and all the papers really deliver. There are differences as you would expect due to the different surfaces on offer, and all of these subtle changes in the paper give you an extra option when deciding how to get work down on paper. By the way I print around 50% of my colour work on matt. :)

    In conversation- speak low and people will listen more intently. That doesn't work in tutorials. Your volume is off, it is mostly low, then fades in and out. At least you fixed the echoes and wind noise in this one. I still bought some paper because of one of your otherwise great presentations, but TBH it was excruciating to get through.

    can you recommend this as the thickest / sturdiest of these fine art papers with a nice finish (not matte)

    • @ChrisCeaserPhotography
      @ChrisCeaserPhotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Yes, it is a very sturdy paper. Quite heavy but handles well on either sheet or roll. Superb finish, very deep blacks, great colours. Chris

      Hi Chris, a follow up question on the sturdiness; Do you think this 17" roll paper will handle making 17 x 24" cut sheets well without much curling? Sounds like it could based on your video comment that prints off the roll are pretty flat.

    Hey Chris, Thanks for reviewing 2 of the 4 new Canson/Arches papers, looking forward to your review on the remaining. I do mostly fine art portraits in b&w and wanted to know your option about which one(s) I should try out? Thanks again!

      Hi. Certainly the arches 88, and have you tried rag photographique 310? The 88 is whiter, the 310 has a warmer tone…. Both smooth, both archival and both would be excellent choices. Depends what you want to achieve with each image really??? Sample packs should be available soon :)

      @@ChrisCeaserPhotography Hello Chris. I want to buy an ultra smooth paper and I have two options: 1. Canson Infinity Arches 88 Ultra Smooth, 310g/m2 2. Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth, 305g/m2 Which one do you advise me? Thank you very much.

      @@Lophophorawilliamsii Hi. I would recommend the Canson Infinity as I trust my own work to that company. The Arches 88 can deliver pure white also. I chose to work with Canson Infinty because I believe in the products they make. I can only recommend a paper I am using with no problems whatsoever. I cannot speak for the Hahnemuhle product. Chris

      Hi Thomas You will not be disappointed if you need a whiter paper to compliment the RP 310. It's just as smooth. the prints are beautiful. Why not grab a sample pack of the 'Arches' range? Or just bite the bullet and buy a box of the '88 :)

      Hi. Yes, normally where there is a stream etc., where the polariser may cut through the glare on the surface. Autumn colour is a case of deciding on the day. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't... depending on the effect of the filter in the given light. :)
