Well this took long enough to finish....
This episode focuses on fall migration birds, mostly warblers, while the rest (sparrows etc) will have their time in the November & December video. The mantis encounters were an unexpected bonus. Normally I see about 3-4 mantis a year. Perhaps this time around I was paying more attention. In one day I counted as many as 15.
As a passing observation, it seems most of the bugs and spiders mated and laid eggs just before the migration surge.
A "thank you" to Mark Gorday for pointing out the stilt sandpiper, and the Northern Water Thrush, to Gina for locating the Great Horned Owl and ranger Amanda for her excited messages of new park sightings.
And thanks to all the other park rangers and visitors who share their knowledge, stories and observations. In 2021 I planned on filming here for just one month. Its 2025 and I'm still filming. That says it all I think.
In keeping this place as wildlife friendly as possible, please read posed messages at the park entrance regarding no pets, bikes, fishing and drones. I recommend binoculars if you're interested in enhancing your wildlife viewing.
In the next episode...Sandhill crane battles and ducks. The breeding season is approaching.

We've had another mild Florida winter. This video shows some birds that I've filmed for the first time; the American White Pelican, the Northern Waterthrush (thanks to Stuart for pointing it out!) and the Yellow-Headed Blackbird which is not normally found in Florida. This is the first time I've actually seen one, but I knew they mixed in with the Brown-Headed Cowbirds from a TH-cam video poste...

November was a pretty month. Lavender and yellow flowers carpeted small patches of the park in forms seemingly random yet organized. Many of us were filming birds standing or sitting in blooms which churned out great pictures, great fun and the birds didn't seem to mind. December was more somber; rusty wilted flowers, lead skies, cold, wind and rain. This year, our flocks of Black-Bellied Whist...

I’ll probably never forget the first time I heard and felt an alligators’ rumbling bellow during the breeding season. It is sunrise on a November morning in the wetlands park. Shoulder high stalks of yellow Goldenrod and lavender Asters start shedding their flowers exposing tiny seeds beginning to ripen. As the air warms up, the wind dislodges the white hairy seeds of the Groundseltree, which erupts in mass, escaping like dandelion spores into the wind by the thousands. Betwixt the shades of browning grasses a...

Forgive me for getting a little carried away with slow motion, but it is quite addictive. Most shots were handheld; the high frame rate tends to soften the effect of shaking hands while holding 8lbs of camera gear. Note for you camera geeks, the Z6 II will only film at 1080p in full slo-mo, and not cropped (only full sensor). But I'm no processional and this is adequate for my current needs. I'...

Fortunately I managed to recover the Sigma 150mm-600mm from the broken DSLR and reuse it on the new Nikon Z6 II. What a relief. Hummingbirds were the highlight of July. Towards the end of August, the alligator nests started hatching so there were baby alligators and protective mothers everywhere. It was sweaty business waiting for those nests to open, but it was worth it. The Nikon Z6 II is a p...

Fantastic video. I run here often, and it's amazing to see this place from your perspective.
Thanks for the interesting comment! This park has captivated me like no other (maybe I just need to travel more), and it's constantly changing. Just when I think I've seen it all, Sweetwater throws something new at me. See ya around.
Love the dive by the kingfisher
I love watching them dive! I have yet to film them coming out with a fish.
Such a beautiful and relaxing video. All the beautiful birds. My favorite was the majestic Owl! ❤❤
Thanks! It's hard to get that owl in enough light. She usually likes dark places and comes out when lighting for photography isn't optimal. Maybe we'll have baby owls this year!
Hello, a very nice movie of you with excellent images and very well edited!! Greetings Gijs 🤠🤠
Thanks! Editing is becoming harder unfortunately. I may need a faster computer with more storage
Amazing!
Thanks!
Your thumbnail shows a male Phidippus audax, probably the most widely distributed large jumping spider in the US
Thanks! I wanted to play it safe as regius is here too and I still have trouble telling males apart even after lots of photo comparisons.
@bob-cat My error, P. regius is generally the largest member of the genus; they don't occur here. We have audax and purpuratus, and of course, the little Salticus scenicus. Audax males are usually proportionately longer and slimmer legged than regius, and often have less bold white leg bands. Love those salticid faces!
As always another video with amazing footage. 👏
Thanks! Saw a fox on Sunday but no bobcat in quite a while unfortunately.
Beautiful video!❤️👏
Thank you! Just before I saw Steve on Sunday morning, a grey fox popped out on the service rd and took off after seeing me. I think the dead deer brought it in.
Beautiful..so beautiful..and very impressive…very nice moments shots… how long it took you gather all of these scenes
Thanks TiniLe!, it took two months of filming , July and August ....and I included a scorpion clip from last year that I didn't use. This series is like a diary of what I see in the park every two months in the year. Next episode will probably come out in December and show all the migratory birds I encountered in September and October.
Amazing footage!
Thanks! Next episode (ongoing filming/editing) will be the fall migration birds (the list has grown quite long)...as well as the hunting strategies and failures of the Large Florida Mantis.
It was good to see you this morning. Sorry i didn't chat. Alot is going on. Love your video's
Good to see you too! hope everything works out.
Beautiful work!
Thank you!
Amazing bird observation footage. A big LIKE for your video. I'm a new friend here. Greetings from Singapore. Happy birding. 👍🔔
Greetings Cheiko! Thanks for watching and liking. I'll learn about Singapore's wildlife by watching your videos.
Hello,woww.....your movies are always of high standard and what a start with the flight and fighting scenes. This is so good and the music and editing at the right moment are making it a real feast for the eye and my compliments for that.But.....i would split this part from the rest because this deserves more attention on its own.Just my opinion...😊😊 There are so many beautiful scenes in this movie and the choice of music is really good.I know for sure that when you are posting a new movie this will be as good as all the others. Go on making these excellent movies and i will be sitting on the front row.....😊😊 Greetings Gijs
Thank you! The next episode may not be as exciting. Most of the birds are done with raising young. But there are lots of insects and spiders to keep me busy until the next bird migration. I look forward to your videos as well! 😀
So good!
Thanks!
❤the fawn. Your videos are incredible. I feel like I am there. They bring me great peace. Thank you
Thanks! You are one of the few who understand how utterly random and wonderful finding animals in the park is. And we get to watch them grow up as the season changes. Almost 3 years now and the park still reveals secrets. Just last week Matt and Kaysea filmed the first little salamander in the park. I have yet to see one.
@@bob-cat I appreciate truly every moment, the patience, the search, the time spent watching nest building to fledglings. I haven’t been to the park in months due to health issues but in my own yard I e been photographing baby wrens, baby cardinals, hummingbirds, a fox, deer, sandhillcranes, all walking in my backyard peacefully. Owls were born and I got to photograph them but even better could lay in bed all night hearing them call. It’s amazing the miracles that exist if we just stop and be silent, and watch. Thank you for your videos. They bring me cheer on hard days.
@@bethanykays1269 Wow you must have one heck of a yard! i live in a condo...energy efficient but sterilized landscaping unfortunately.
Good job!
Thankyou Tinile!
the fight is amazing, thank you for bringing this amazing video!
Thanks! I wish the rest of the footage was better. Lots of it was too shaky, out-of-focus....unusable.
Hi TiniLe, at 2:45 that's called a pupae. Inside, the caterpillar gets structurally changed over a period of weeks. This butterfly is known as the Zebra Longwing and the caterpillar feeds on passionflowers. It only took a day to film as there were so many around in different stages of development, it didn't take me long to find one emerging. I set the camera on a tripod and filmed maybe for 2 hours, then chose the best clips. It is still too long however. maybe I should have done a time lapse.
Hello, your movies are always of a high standard and breathtaking to see like this one.I loved every second of it and go on with these very worth seeking videos. Greetings Gijs
Hoy Gijs! I'm gland you liked it! I meet other photographers but not many are interested in filming video. I'm not sure why. I hope to continue to make videos you find interesting!
@@bob-cat Yes....indeed. only a few are filming and i don't understand that because i gives so much more joy to hear the birds and follow there behaviours.I am a member of a photography club here and i am the only one who is filming and editing and maybe they to look up to it.I am glad that we see the advantages and getting more out of nature life experiences.Greetings Gijs
This is amazing! The quality and audio are absolutely amazing too! What camera do you use?
Thank you Liam! For the past two years I've been using the Nikon Z6 II. I've used the Sigma 150-600mm F6.3 lens up until March of last year when it was replaced with the Nikon 800mm PF lens. I ended up licensing the music mostly from Pond5 or Premium beats as the quality felt really good. There are Royalty free music from other artists like Galaxy Tones who I donate to. THanks for stopping by!
Wonderful can't wait to get back ❤
Thanks for watching! when you get back, we have 4 fawns with the deer family in the dry overflow field. They are out on evenings and when cloudy.
@@bob-cat oh my goodness!! positively wonderful!! won't be back til Dec or Jan, most likely...bummer we will miss the cuteness. Guess I will have to be sure to watch all your videos ;)

This is a lovely video to start my day with. Beautiful footage, I don’t understand why it hasn’t had more views.
Wow Thanks! Viewers have a wider choice now than ever before. Not too concerned about views.
Amazing video! I am wondering why there is bubble around gator in 1:38? Thanks!
What's up Kira! Interesting question! I'm gonna make a hypothesis. It seems that the muscles around the midsection of Goliath vibrates at a high enough frequency (combined with the splashing) , mixing air with water to generate bubbles at the surface. I don't think the bubbles are coming up from below. If this could be observed in an aquarium where a profile view could be seen, that could give confirmation. hope everything is going well with you!
Very nice ❤ it😂
Thank you person I don't know who watches youtube videos at 2am cause she can't sleep!😅
This video as always is simply beautiful. The beauty of the animals and watching the cute baby Cranes. It was just wonderful
Thanks! It's moments like that which keep me going out and exploring. The park is constantly changing, every week and every year.
Another beautiful video. Love the Sandhill Crane colts.
Henry! Good to hear from you! Yea filming the colts never gets old. Any cranes up in your area?
@@bob-cat yes. We do have some sandhill cranes, but can't get nearly as close to them as you can down there.
Love it, the first gator is pretty scary.
Thanks! The opening scene has a gator I call "Snaggle Tooth". Hard to tell if the deformed teeth is an old battle scar ...or a genetic abnormality. I haven't seen Snaggle basking in a while though.
Amazing!
Thanks! I think I managed to film more stuff last year. But this park is full of surprises
Another amazing video!
Hey Thank you! Hope things are going well with your travels and hopefully will see you in Florida again.
@@bob-cat It's been an incredibly busy spring but I hope things will slow down now and maybe I can catch up on posting a few videos myself. Until then, I have yours to enjoy. Keep posting!
One word comes to my mind: PERFECTION. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Ben! Some shots are not quite in focus (or at least not as sharp as I would like). And I missed an epic Osprey /Eagle chase because I arrived to late to know what was going on. But I''m glad you liked it!

So calm and beautiful, thank you!
Thanks! Yes always a good day in the wetlands even when it rains. A place of great discovery.
Hello,i really like your movies and your editing style is fantastic!!! 7 minutes is a long time but because of the way you edit it time flies very quickly and you have the talent to do it dynamically, The images are very good and an excellent choice of music!! Greetings Gijs
Thank you Gijs! Filming 2 months at a time provides more material per episode. Slow motion footage is easier to synchronize to certain kinds of music. I appreciate you watching! 😄
Hey. really good footage with lots of different birds. Well done. Greets Stefan
Thanks Stefan! 🙂
Thank you Linus
Thank you Barbara!
Hello, a very beautiful and impressive movie of the wildlife and really fantastic music that support the wonderful images very well!!! Greetings Gijs
Thank you! 😃
Great as always, high quality footage. Is that day of the cardinal when the water got your 800pf? is was raining hard, did you have a cover on?
Hey thanks for stopping by! Actually the problem started while working on the Jan-Feb 2024 episode. I was in hard rain for 10 minutes while filming deer (so my fault). the next day, The focus button wouldn't respond (but stuck on AF continuous servo) , could not access menu, could not review any images. No error messages appeared. Other lenses worked ok on the Z6 II so it was the 800PF. After drying out for a week + and working again, I decided to use a waterproof hood to shield the camera and lens mount....but this happened again in much lighter rain. I think the moisture breach is near the aperture ring or the custom buttons near the front. I use the Sigma 150-600 Sport in damp weather now just in case. And I'm working on a custom hood for the 800mm. TIme to sew.
Beautiful!
Thanks!!
Fantastic, as always!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Thanks!!!!!!
Nice video. Like the music. Is this in Florida?
In Gainesville Florida, yes. Glad you liked it! Maybe 20 years from now I'll look back on these videos to see what's changed.
hey. Really good footage. The morgen is looking so calm. Very relaxing with a lot of wildlife. New subscriber here. I film wildlife s Well. Greets Stefan
Thanks Stefan! Early morning is usually quiet, but the park gets violent storms and lightning strikes here as well.
Beautiful video. Nicely filmed ❤❤
As always, simply Beautiful!
Beautiful. ❤❤
Thanks! The Nikon z6 II is not great with birds in flight so lots of shots have imperfect focus. Newer models feature bird eye tracking to help with this. And I didn't get the Harrier with its prey, the rice rat. They tend not to fly around with their food.
@@myvillagebirds Glad you liked it!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing this video!!!
Thanks! Northern Harrier video is not as clean as I would like ....will need a better camera for that in the future. Better resolution & bird tracking .
I always look forward to these and they never disappoint! Spectacular footage as always! :)
Thank you so much Kyle! I was hoping the park would get some more ducks moving through but while it lacks in ducks, it might be compensating with sparrows. Final week in January, Merlin picked up Lincoln, Vesper, Field and Grasshopper sparrows lurking in the ripe broomsedges. Of course it takes forever for them to reveal themselves.
@@bob-cat That's the beauty of it all, you never know what you may see! Often times it's not what we expect!
Amazing and beautiful to watch
Thanks!!! Many times I actually don't find anything to film, but I enjoy seeing the little things...mushrooms sprouting from logs, the mist rising as the air warms, shafts of light punching through the clouds after a long day of rain. And right now, new buds and flowers emerging from naked branches. Spring is coming. 😄
