Yes, indeed. My work around is always having two layers of sanding paper in the sander. Often a 150 and 320 grid paper. Like that, I always have the two grid stages at hand that I use the most for rough and fine sanding. But generally, I really like the 3M products, because of their good quality. But if there are other good tips out there, please share in the comments.

@missionwood oh man, that's a great idea. Now I'm wondering why I didn't think of that. It would hold on just fine with forward to back sanding, but as soon as I go to sand over a profile, the paper would begin to shift. Thank you sir

Thank you! And yes, the way shown here is pretty labour intensive. But imagine I would do the routing of the pockets with a table router, sawing the stripes with a table saw, using a clamping station, ... . . It just would be a fraction of labour. And yes, the difference using good hand tools and a big machine park is not the achievable quality, but time and labour. So perfectly correct!

In fact, I bought the panels like that. Due to a discount action, their price was even cheaper than the ones without. If they would not have been in, I would have cut them with 2 passes with the circular saw.

Please watch this video, which should answer your question: th-cam.com/users/shorts59jaJAZSFbE The marking of the hole with the pin is probably not the root cause for the problem. I would guess, that the second hole is drifting away while drilling. That can be cause by the wrong or not sharp drill bit.
