In a real fight, people don’t attack like that with a straight punch. It’s more of a looping punch. How do you deal with that? And the attacker isn’t going to just throw one punch and wait around. They usually throw a punch and then you are in a clinch situation.

Ok, i stopped watching at about 45 min, and explain why. You should make first an introduction of this video to tell people when this lecture was, and who was Daniel Chemla, and which « shotokan » we speak here. Chemla was a great karateka, he was at the origin of France Shotokan, and probably among the first students of karate in France. He did a great job. He was in his working life a scientist (physicist). What he WAS NOT was an HISTORIAN! You should tell that what he was speaking was what people thought they knew on the history of karate at that time, but not that we know today! You can t speak on the beginning of karate without knowing what the Ryu kyu really were at that time, what was the politics and social organisation there at that time, the real interaction between Okinawa, China, Japan. You can not speak nowadays of origins of karate without speaking of shuri te, naha te, tomari te. You can not speak of that without speaking of matsumura soken, and what did Itosu Anko. You have to speak of the Mejii area, and what it changed in Okinawa. There is a lot of things said in the first part of the talk that we know now that was incorrect, or even myth. The second part of the talk about the spread of karate in japan as a lot of approximation too. And after that, he speaks about the beginning of Shotokan school of Ohshima, but this is not ALL Shotokan. So here, you make confusion for people who is whatchig this talk today on TH-cam. Don t missunderstand me : it is not a bad comment on Daniel Chemla, who was a great karateka. It is a comment that when you put à video on TH-cam who speaks from History, many people will Watch it, and will think after this is the truth, which here it is not. This is why before posting it, you should make an introduction to warn people in witch context this talk was done, and the infirmation given in that time is not the informations we have today.
