Camping in Lincoln County New Mexico
Our first camping trip after moving to New Mexico. We had a few kinks to work out with new equipment and not camping, for various reasons, for the previous 18 months. Capitan Mountains, Lincoln - Billie the Kid, Fort Stanton, and the White Mountains outside Ruidoso.

I installed a Pop & Lock system to lock and unlock the tailgate of my 2023 Toyota Tacoma using my key fob. Relatively easy install. Toughest part was routing the cable around the gas tank. I have a long bed and had more than enough cable.

I like to fish, especially on lakes. I catch fish from lakes. Rivers? Flyfishing?? That is an entirely different story. Watch this and other flyfishing videos of mines as I feebly attempt to catch the elusive trout using a fly. Not all is lost, though. Every day fishing is a blessing to be outdoors.

My in-laws has a cabin that almost burned to the ground during the massive Spring Creek Fire of 2018. We visited the next summer. It was amazing to see how their decades of responsible fire mitigation techniques on their land saved their cabin while so many others vanished.

Have you ever been in a mechanics shop? There is always a random like 2-3ft metal pipe that is used for when the arm of a ratchet is too short to gain enough leverage to loosen/tighten a bolt.

I did that trail around 2001 in a chevy trailblazer. I still think of that trail, very cool. Seemed remote, one stretch in deep woods passes small pond and a momma and baby moose were standing in the water and a beaver was swimming there too. I was by myself and got a little lost/mixed up along the way too.

For those that don’t have the Yakima tool, GET IT. I have had multiple racks, bars, carriers, boxes etc from Yakima and always just used Allen keys with no issues. When mounting the HD bars to my timberline tower I though I had the screw above the screw that tightens the strap down tight enough, and I didn’t, so the bar would just slide. I didn’t realize that the screw above the screw that tightens the straps also helped to tighten the mounts to the bar. TLDR. Buy the Yakima tool and tighten all screws till it clicks three times. Don’t use an Allen key on the cross bar mount screw and break the head off in the mount and then try and drill it out and destroy your tower……..like me 🙃
