You sir would be correct to think so. I remember seeing this Puffy music video in Japan, and I thought: Hey, they ripped this idea off the GAP commercial in the U.S. Could be just coincidence, but the timing was pretty uncanny.

I remember watching this video a few times on Muchmusic back in the late 90's... the reason the video looks like this is because it was parodying or homaging the resurgence of Big Band music (which is the style they are playing here) and the GAP commercials were big during that time and were partly responsible for bringing that to the mainstream this music

@razzlesoda Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi was on Cartoon Network for several seasons. they even had a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade one year. the show was new cartoons mixed with some clips from their show Papapa Puffy from Japan ^^
