    ca. 30:00 - The talk about good and bad. My definition of those terms is a little different from the mainstream. TL;DR: Good is not the absence or reduction of bad; it's the adding of pleasure or other benefit. Bad is the opposite. Also, the need to reduce bad supersedes the need to increase good (especially what I call "surplus benefit", more benefit needed for a realistically humane quality of life). Further, when I zone out on the couch or in bed, "staring into space", I feel neither good nor bad. I noticed when in those moods that I have no need for good, yet do retain the need for bad. So ultimately goodness doesn't actually matter, it's a 2nd or 3rd level concern, tops.

    disturbing but pointless. we all already know you lot want to blow up the whole planet (without asking for the consent of the people living on it, naturally) so i dont see why you need to do this. is this just a way for you to smear a veneer of further justification onto your rancid ideology? you people arent fooling anyone with your sophistry, and you are destined to fail.

    Count me in the camp as someone who is quite worried about this shift in focus/definition of anti-natalism! Grounding AN axiologically on 'needs' and 'existence' would be fairly difficult to defend. One could define AN in such a manner, but for it to be one of axiology/ethic-driven, is going to be quite quite difficult. Most ethical framework that try to contend intrinsic value in something aside from felt experience struggle to do so, and often have to invoke something like God and divine commands, contracts to coordinate autonomous agents, or deontological principles -- all of which I would argue are fundamentally smuggling in the (dis)value of suffering to ground said principle. I'll be interested to see where you go with this, as you will have to go pretty deep in meta- and normative ethics to do so, but I overall am worried about this approach. Fwiw, I also think it could muddy the waters of AN, what is is and should be, and could inadvertently do more harm to sentient beings, which is where I think any *ethical* focus should be. (If one wanted to make the case that AN isn't a purely ethical one, then I think that's unfortunate but at least could be made consistent). All that said, need everyone who has thought carefully about their ideas to continue pushing the boundaries of the dialogue and this space, so will look forward to the papers coming out! :)

    Philosophies/Ideologies against the existence of sentient lives are all delusional, rubbish and pointless BS! I have never seen any antinatalists and efilists who actually want to live alone in a world without other sentient lives. These people do always make excuses when I ask them why they aren't living alone in the wild without other sentient lives.

    Thank Ms. Amanda. I am sorry but life is impersonal…I am an antinatalist who believes that life is only suffering to a particular being…sentient or NOT…suffering is a part of being alive…as well as pleasure. Human being are tragic in that we complicate natural suffering. The problem in Efilism is that it is problem to human beings linguistically…no language, no problem. I am an antinatalist the way I am because I am a particular type of being…history makes it clear basic antinatalism even efilism, is not a common position and need not be common to all human beings. Good luck for the next 100 episodes.

    The janitor is right. What the janitor's opponent is saying is like saying the existence of a piece of art would have value if it was somewhere no one would ever see it. If that has value, I don't know what "value" means. To say a plant has needs is a shorthand way of describing a mechanism, by analogy to the functions of sentient feelings. No value concepts would be comprehensible, and would never have developed, without sentience. If you think there is value, negative or positive, in life that has no capacity to feel, independently of how it might affect life that does have the capacity to feel, you are projecting your own feelings onto something that could not possibly be in a negative or positive state. Without sentience, life is just another physical mechanism, like many other physical mechanisms that don't manifest anything bad or good. Why differentiate, in terms of value, between life without sentience and rock formation in the Earth, the gases of Jupiter, or countless other physical mechanisms that you're not arguing should not exist?

    • @ZakLylak
      @ZakLylak 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Another form of life, way beyond our level of intelligence, might consider our behaviour to be entirely biomechanical, and have no capacity to understand our incongruous grunting, or clumsy scribblings, as a sign of self-awareness. After investigation, they would see that we were mobile bacteria colonies, responding to signalling pathways controlled by mitochondria, a compact bacterial engine present in most cells. The main control room would be the gut, where the majority of colonizing populations live, doing comparatively little work thanks to their inventive creation of a zombie host, the latter having developed some malware and bugs over the last few thousand years, but nothing too detrimental to their capacity to feed and protect their one hundred trillion masters. This new form of life, with processing capacities running millions of times faster than the human brain, has no concept of sound. They see our mouths move and our bodies twitch as they pull off our limbs, but, to them, we're little more than ears of corn, trembling in the wind.
