I upload guitar covers by The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Duane Allman, Jimmy Page and other blues and rock artists. I also venture into the realm of jazz/funk/r&b.
Remember Duane Allman
Duane Allman’s 1971 Les Paul Tone and Lick Showcase - Elizabeth Reed Style
This tone was produced at a decibel level of around 115 dB on average.
The tone I am getting is fully controlled by the volume knobs on the guitar and no stomp pedals, meaning the clean sound is produced just by lowering the guitar volume to ~3, and the lead tone by rolling it back up to around 8.5.
This is meant to showcase a ballpark Duane Allman phrasing style and tone heard in the 1971 recordings like the Fillmore East, Stonybrook University, Syria Mosque and more. Also, this video is meant to show how dynamic the tones are in the context of distortion and gain. The lead sound is not drenched in distortion but just enough to sound rounded over.

This is an original arrangement to this song, with a single guitar playing the melody while simultaneously playing the chords over the melody, simulating two guitars on one.

This is a funky tune with lots of free form singing and tight rhythm sections.

I tried to make it a note for note, nearly identical tone showcase video. The phone died at the end, so that is why it ends abruptly.

I overdubbed five guitars on this video. The guitar I used is called an Epiphone Riviera P93. The video is 4K. Perfect for relaxing, meditation, sleeping, studying and working.

Acoustic backing rhythm with full bodied, clean electric soloing. A mix of some of my favorite licks plus original licks of my own.
White Summer - Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page Acoustic Guitar Cover) - Indian/Celtic Fusion
มุมมอง 55121 วันที่ผ่านมา
I took some liberties and added some different sounding parts but it is a nearly complete version when compared to the Albert Hall and Playhouse Theater versions, plus elements from the Yardbirds rendition. The tuning is DADGAD.
High Falls - Allman Brothers Band (Dickey Betts JBL D120 Tone Demo)
มุมมอง 63421 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is meant to demonstrate the clean and articulate tone that Dickey Betts is known for when he used old JBL D120 model speakers. This is not an exact D120 model but a clone made by Weber Speakers I just plugged straight into the amp, no EQ or pedals. Only guitar, amp and speaker dynamics are being heard.

Wow man ! I saw your other LZ cover videos and it sounds amazing! what's pickups or capacitor on your LP? your tone is really close to jimmy!
Dude, you nailed this, thanks!
you really nailed the two solos damn
Just bought one 2004 model the same.. Humble opinion this is a better bet than later manufactured ones
@@webbyenfield agreed
I like how you split the screen indicating that the guitar is doubled for that small part.
Wow; excelente interpretación !! Jimmy está orgulloso de ti
Fantastic
Nice man, im always trying to chase the stonybrook tone on keys, and its always great to see how the knobs are set bc it gives me an idea of how to set my distortion settings. Funnily enough, a Rhodes/wurlizter distorted approaches the eat a peach Duane tonen
Hello, I have seen your content and am impressed with your Duane interpretation on keys with tone and phrasing. I agree that the distortion amount will have an effect on the knob placement.
@ appreciate that! I always enjoy seeing your stuff too it’s very inspiring
@@amajor7add9Thank you very much. I’d say the Stonybrook tone is my favorite Duane tone. His phrasing in late 1971 is nothing short of genius. One of the most emotive players of all time. It’s fun to improvise with his phrasing mindset and start playing your own solos with that
@ dickeys too! I feel both sound a little more overdriven than show? Some people speculate due to the audio quality
@ Agreed. Dickeys brightness compliments Duane’s darkness beautifully. I would say that the audio quality muffles the sound quite a bit, the tone’s probably much more pronounced and defined in reality. I do notice that both Dickey and Duane got a bit more distortion in late 71 when compared with some audio in 1970 and even the Fillmore week in March 71
Man you gotta help me dial mine in to get that mid honk. I’m gonna try to send you that video tonight.
Would love to hear it
@ so I have 2 amps, the PRS that I told you about and I also have a Mason Dixon 15 watt which just a Marshall clone but it has the EL84 tubes. Both amps have the same speaker setup. I finally got that mid honk with the Mason Dixon but I have to turn it up extremely loud. I’m gonna do the PRS next and I’ll record both so you can listen to them.
@@deltajukejoint9156 Sounds great. Looking forward to hearing these
@@XxSkydog71xX what’s the easiest way to get you the videos? They will only be phone videos. I don’t have any of my recording stuff set up.
@@deltajukejoint9156you could upload them to TH-cam and comment the link in this comment section if that works with you or I could just go to your TH-cam channel and watch there
Man, would I like to jam with you.....open E?

Theat sounds really good.
@@jim-d6v Thanks Jim
Can you do a video on how you transcribe?
As far as transcribing, I have just been listening and translating onto the guitar without writing or tabs. Then I like to improvise with similar themes and motifs from the different versions. All I can recommend is to listen intently to the playing habits and themes of any player
keep on rolling it into the new year, sounds amazing !

Nailed it
You did it! Been close years ago…but not that close
You got the honk going. What you got your settings at??
@@deltajukejoint9156 thanks man. I got the mids at maximum and treble 3/4 and bass 1/3. I also use the eq pedal to further articulate the section of mids I want heard more.
@@XxSkydog71xX I was actually playing this one today except it was show 3. One of the few Duane solos I can actually play. I still haven’t got the honk exactly right on my amp but it’s close. I could probably get it perfect if I was willing to blow my ears out lol. I always have my highs too sharp or clean I think.
@ that’s the thing with Duane’s tone is that the high end is there but it’s not like dickeys high end which was really screaming. Duane’s sound was more of a lower screaming, growling tone if that makes sense. The honk is around 800-1k Hz I think
@@deltajukejoint9156 what amp do you play through?
@@XxSkydog71xX I have a 30 watt PRS Hxda and it’s run into a a 2x12 cab with a celestion pulsonic greenback and a cv er123. I really wish I had the 50 watt though.

Dickey and Dan on the same axe...awesome.
Killer! You’ve also been using the Fender GTX50 at times as well so which small amp do you think you get better tones from out of curiosity?
@@bluestonic I get better tones from the black star. The Marshall is the best overall but for small amps, the Blackstar wins easy. Pair with EQ and it’s all that I need in a rig
@ Great to know! You always seem to get incredible tone no matter what you play through. What EQ pedal do you use? 10 band to boost 1-4k? Still using the peacock OD with the EQ?
@@bluestonicthank you! I use an MXR ten band and boost 1k to 2k. I like that tighter spread and it’s with reduced shrill frequencies. I have been using that with the peacock pedal running into the clean channel of the blackstar in the front end. It works really well with the clean channel and I can still get those chimey cleans when I roll off the volume knobs on the guitar.
Tasty! Where’d ya get that Jeff Beck shirt
@@brianmcdermott281 eBay. Thanks!
Great job considering the quality of the recording....Duane's stuff is not easy to cop...Quirky and beautiful at the same time ...
Okay, but what equipment did you use??? I want to replicate the same sound. It's so close.
Thanks so much! I used a Marshall origin 50 watt head and a 2x12 cab with a Weber Chicago speaker and a Scumback H55 speaker. Now I use other speakers and amps in addition to these but this is still the closest tone I can get without having Duane’s exact gear.
@@XxSkydog71xX Thank you. I'm gonna monkey with my Spark 40 amp to see if I can replicate. That sharp "quack" tone in this solo is so unique it's hard to replicate.
@ I have a spark go or whatever the smallest one is, and I can get this tone on that as well. You have to boost the 1k midrange to get that midrange honk. Some Les Pauls honk more than others as well
@@XxSkydog71xX Oh awesome... if you know what amps/pedals you used with that lemme know. They're all the same. Thanks!
@ the JM45 amp with an eq pedal boost mids
what about your guitar string height?
Don’t have exact measurements but it’s high enough to make fretted playing a bit awkward
@ thanks! i love your cover of layla
@@makirim Thank you. That was a doozy and took me two hours of takes. Duane did it in two takes. That alone separates Duane from mere underlings like me 😂
Very tasteful!💙💙💙

@@XxSkydog71xX Anytime, bro, anytime!!
As someone who has been trying to replicate this version, it's s shame TH-cam doesn't want this vid to blow up while other weak guitarist with just good face get millions of views. This is one of the hardest to learn great job
Sweeet! 🤘
I don't throw out compliments too often regarding Duane but you my friend have put alot of time learning these live versions. I've spent most of my guitar life copping his solos trying to learn where the source came from. We are on the same path but you are a few miles down the road. I have a handbuilt 1986 with original paper coned CV ER123s that comes as close, real close to FE tone. When you say D120 tone is that a modeler or a cab you're playing through?
@@3John16 Thank you very much. I appreciate your kind words. It’s a great path to be on. I was playing through a 1x12 cab with a Weber Speakers D120 clone. It’s nearly on the money after it’s broken in. Thank you again.
Sorry I should read your information on the video. I ordered a Weber Duane clone years ago cant remember the model when I was starting my tone chasing but it was too ice picky at volume. I like this tone quite a bit. I still prefer the CV but probably because I spent so much time and money finding them. All the best brother, the road goes on!
@@3John16 I initially thought it was a bit harsh as well, and the break in period was quite long in my opinion as well. Now it seems to have been tamed pleasantly. I also have a Weber CV123 that is similar (more mids I’d say) that I use as well. I’d love to hear that ER123 you have.
@@XxSkydog71xX Ah that makes sense, I was probably too impatient on the break in. I'll now be spending some time learning some of your live solos esp the 9/16 and 10/15 covers. I have all of the available 69-71 bootlegs and if you find the 5/2/70 Swarthmore College show you HAVE to listen to it. Duane and Berry play like I've never heard them! Take care friend.

@XxSkydog71xX Borrowed from Robert Frost's classic Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.
@@jimsliverootsculturemusic woods on a snowy evening - lovely
Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.
Fantastic as ever ! Merry Christmas , hope you have a great one 👍
