I finally take a field trip I've been wanting to take for months! But first I have to get some work done.

It's a couple days of plugging through some infrastructure projects and dealing with the day to day tasks on the homestead.
Checking of the List
มุมมอง 275วันที่ผ่านมา
There are a lot of little jobs that build up on the homestead. Time to knock some of them out!
Before Debby Arrives
มุมมอง 15914 วันที่ผ่านมา
As the remnants of Hurricane Debby arrive, I'm working on some indoor jobs, including a couple of different food preservation techniques. And it rains. A lot.
Bee Testing

It's finally time to mite test the bees, but first there's gardeny stuff to do!
Preservation and Trees

It's the busy season, so I'm knocking out some food storage projects as well as planting for the future.
Working the Margins

I'm getting work done at the edge of the garden, the edge of the property, and the edges of time between doing things with my kids. We got a lot accomplished!

Infrastructure chores are finally getting finished in the homestead!
I’m new to tire channel and I’m loving it
Welcome and I'm so glad!
As for future children you! Can adopt a child and the child can be a little older maby about our of diapers ❤
Lol I have 3 grown children, so no babies for me! I'm ready to be a Grammy, but the kids aren't there yet.
Just wanted you to know that I like watching your videos about everything you've done I can't get enough Iam keeping my eyes 👀 out for your next video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That's wonderful, thank you so much!
I fill gallon jugs in the winter and pull them in ice fishing sled during the winter months. I use the rubber feed bowls from tractor supply or a feed supply store during the winter months. Unless you have power and heated waterer's during the winter the standard waterers will freeze in the winter. They don't need water at night as they are sleeping so I dump their water out when they go to bed at night and fill with fresh water in the morning. It's a process but, it works.
Yeah, that's what I'm going to have to do as well. I really want a frost free hydrant near the coop, but we would have to ruin the pipe so deep it's not in the budget right now. So I'll be schlepping from the house every day
you would get a lot of water off the greenhouse.
I know! Next year's big project is water catchment for the garden and the chickens.
@@afargreenhomestead Are you thinking about going with a food grade IBC tote?
Nice video,thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Your flower beds are looking lovely!!!
Thank you! I'm really enjoying them. But next year will be better!
Blue berries make the best homemade muffins.
Agreed!
Interesting way to use the flowers🌺🐝🌸glad you got the mower out of that ditch.
Right? I couldn't figure out how you'd make the color stay. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it more!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have moved away from everyone i know as well, to the beach....when you said how tough it is before the visit and after the visit, girl i felt that!!!! the isolation lost and gained!!! hope you get thru it quickly, i have found it does get easier as time goes on, its been three years since I've been on my own.....keeping busy as you do, is the best medicine!!! hugs!! 💕💕
Thank you! It's m adjustment after having a house full of people for 28 years. Usually I like the peace, but it does get lonely sometimes
So happy the steam canner worked - it is an absolute game changer! And yes, I do love it when you show us the missteps as well as the successes. As I've said repeatedly, growing up with relatives who farmed, nothing makes me crazier than seeing "sanitized" channels where everything works the first time, where it all looks easy and inspirational. Farming is hard, messy, frustrating and rewarding work. Your channel keeps it real!
I really do love it! And I don't show ALL the mistakes, but definitely the ones I learned from!
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
So nice of Crow to pick black berries.
They were a big help! We have plans to improve the blackberry patch for next year
@@afargreenhomestead Great plans
Raccoons are really nasty animals. Their feces carries a parasite whose eggs can only be killed with fire, no chemicals kill the eggs. The eggs are viable for decades. The CDC has some really scary info. Ingesting the microscopic eggs are deadly to people especially children.
Very interesting! Glad I got them moved
Fence looks great.
Thank you!
Really nice video.
Glad you liked it!
Fedco has great trees. Your farm is beautiful.
I'm really impressed with their selection
Your place looks great!!! Nice video.
Thank you!
Sorry for the loss of you Dad.Hugs!!
Thank you so much. It was a rough time, but he's work me every day.
Hello! I am really enjoying your videos! I have a similar setup here in Alabama. 4.25 acres is enough to keep me busy! Haha! How many acres do you have there? Keep the videos coming!! Thank you!!
Right? I looked at a couple of much bigger places but now am glad I got priced out of those! I have almost 7 acres, but probably 3 of those I'm just letting be wild, so really only 4 that I'm managing.
Your garden looks great, nice to have help coming,(and kids). I love your house and the fresh flower bouquets. Teresa from the PNW
Thanks Teresa! I'm so happy to be able to have fresh flowers in the house whenever I want!
When I go to the feed store I ask them if i can have the big card board sheets that come on the pallets. Stores are glad to give you card board. And its Free
That's a great tip! Thank you!
Hello new to the channel.
Welcome! I hope you enjoy it!
@@afargreenhomestead Very much
Nice fence!
Thank you! It has made such a difference!
Blueberries love used coffee grounds.
Males me wish I drank coffee!
@@afargreenhomestead Well you could ask some of your church friends to save coffee grounds. Just give them a clean container when they give you a full one.
Sure helps to dig when ground is wet..have a great day!😊
You got that right!
Thanks for the video !
My pleasure!
Looks great!!
Thank you! It feels great!
You are so inspiring!
Wow, thank you! I'm glad to pay it forward from the folks who inspired me!
I'm pleased for you that it's done and you are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you so much!
Wow! Well Done. Such a big achievement.
I'm so thrilled to be done with it!
Thanks for the video!
My pleasure!
Your getting lots accomplished 🙂For laying chickens, they need 14 to 16 hours of light for egg production. I used to have my light come on at 6 am and shut off at 9 or 10 pm. I did this manually but you can set it up with a timer to turn on and off when you want it.
We get plenty of light this time of year so I'm not too worried about it, especially since they haven't started laying yet. I think I have another month or so...
@@afargreenhomestead Yes they are to young yet 🙂Have a wonderful day.
The egg shells is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Now I just have to remember to use them!
Looking good !!!😃
Thanks! I'm still a little giddy about the whole thing
Wow your paths look great. I will have to try the cardboard trick next year instead of constantly fighting with new weeds. Great work
It's amazing the difference it makes! I suggest cardboard over the ram board, but even that little bit helps.
I just found your channel and decided to start at the beginning of your journey. I am amazed to see the progress you have made this summer.
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the trip!
Amazing job! Soon enough they will learn. We have had chickens that have been gone the whole day and then they would come back at night and go to their home. They just need time to readjust to their knee pattern and soon enough you won’t have to worry about it.
They're doing much better, but I restricted their access, which makes ME feel better!
Bet you sleep good at night!
If my cat let's me!
Hope you and chicks faired well during the heavy rain and winds yesterday! Sunflowers looked gorgeous! I always miss seeing them at their peak. I hope chicks have settled in and figured it out!
We were definitely spared the worst of it. Just a whole lot of rain!
Not to worry, sure they will figure the routine out!!
I removed some option. It helped a lot!
Ohhhh my !!! That shed is drop dead gorgeous!! I need to build one or buy one too. Did you get in Rich Sprngs? This is sooo much like what I want, but hope for transom’s on each end for work space lighting. Just spectacular! So happy for you!!! Fantastic chicken run! So thankful for this break in heat and humidity. Makes such a difference, like you said, in one’s ability to get a great restorative sleep!
It's from Big E's Sheds in Otego. His prices are easily half of what I've seen from other sellers in the area, and they're good quality. The greenhouse shed I got for about the same price as I'm setting just the greenhouse for at the other places
L🥚VE the shed and the girls are going to just love their new yard.
They seem to! I've only had one break out since, and he seemed pretty surprised by it!
Good job,nice shed!!😊
Thank you! I'm so excited to have it!
You’re doing wonderful! We are doing similar stuff and are documenting it all on our channel as well. Be sure to take your time and have fun along the way!
Thank you so much! Every day is a good day when you're doing something you love! (unless it's 85 degrees with a 90% humidity...) Good luck with your cabin build!
It's all about wet soil is easier to pound into! The dryer the harder it will be! Soak each spot where the posts will go!
We'd been getting a lot of rain, so the ground was pretty soft. The big problem is around here the soil has a lot of stone mixed in. That's where the bar came in handy. The point basically pries the stones to the side, making room for the post
Doing such a great job! What kind of paper are you using on the ground under the mulch?
I used cardboard boxes as much as I could, but when I ran out, I got heavy duty ram board from the hardware store. It's in the flooring section for protecting floors when you're doing demo or construction
You drilled the holes for the feeder ports too high up the bucket. About an inch from the bottom is best
The chickens don't mind
With all the fog you will get alot of snow this winter! But good job with everything you did!
I hope so! I moved up here in part to have snowy winters again (I grew up in central Michigan), but last winter we barely got a foot of snow all season!
@@afargreenhomestead I have a cousin in Paw Paw!
