I have 75Ah batteries upgraded to 60Ah LiFePO4 and they allow room to drill the hole. You may not be able to do this with 100Ah batteries.
Nicely explained! Thanks!
Hello Sir, instead of buying 4 individual chargers, could I buy only 2. I would still wire the 4 batteries individually but charge 2 of them at a time, and keep on switching everyday. Could that be good?
What a great video, i'm brazilian and we have a lot of problems with storage here, how big can i do this with this kind of materials? How many tons are possible to storage?
Didn’t realize there was so much work involved into a wood bin. Where i am you see these old wooden ones everywhere.
Wow what a fantastic video with all the details especially the part about not removing the breather plug. Man, do I wish that I had watched your video before change the gear oil. However, I have lost the breather and cannot find a replacement. Any idea where I could buy a replacement axle breather plug? It cannot be ordered from Ryobi parts without purchasing the complete axle about $450.00
would you build me one
I just changed out my 4 batteries on my rm480e mower last night. Everything is working electrically, however the mower will no longer forward or reverse. Ryobi thinks it might be the parking brake switch. Curious if you have thoughts.
thank you merci beaucoup c'est exactement se que je chercher.
Thanks for this helpful video! I'm planning to follow it when I do my 100 hr service in the spring. Will take pics of battery wiring before I disconnect it as my memory isn't as good as yours.
This video is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you to you both for sharing your wisdom!
I'd rather have one on front of the tractor
Beautiful nice long throw but do you get a kink in your neck looking backwards all day long.
Nice snow blower!!!
Where’s part two to your free heat build?
Hello. I just watched your great video on the Solar furnace build. You mentioned a part 2, but I don't see it on the channel. Is it still available? Thanks.
I thought maybe you were going to show us how to replace the battery and get past the lost password of our old laptop. Is it even worth messing with? I could use a old laptop to monitor the solar energy system I want to build and our household energy in general. Thanks, and keep the sense of humor.
whatever happened to the solar furnace build part 2 video? I saw part 1 but no part 2?
Can you finish the build on the solar furnace, it would be useful for me to see if you've done a better job
What happened to your solar furnace build part 2 video? Comments were turned off on part one video so had to leave comment/question here.
What happened with Solar Furnace Build Part 2. I understand you are NOT telling us what to do. You are sharing what you did. Thank you.
WHERE IS PART 2 OF THE SOLAR FURNACE BUILD???
Hey Brian. Where's the second installment of the solar heater? The first video was a year ago. Are you still editing it?
Rather than pull batteries I drilled a 13/32” hole above the fill plug and used a 1/4” tubing to re-fill. It fits nicely on the gear oil bottle tip. It’s a little hassle to drill but sets unit up for easy next oil change. I was also replaced my 75Ah batteries with 60ah Can-Bat LifePO4 batteries and installed accurate battery level meter. Batteries weight 18lbs vs 60lbs original. I get over 3 times mowing time.
Where exactly did you drill the hole? How did you get past the batteries? Thanks!
Where is part two of the heating the sale of greenhouse videos please
Hi Brian. I am having an issue with my mower. I tested the batteries and they are nearly at full capacity. We tightened the wires, changed oil. And yet it’s close to dying after only about 1/2 acre of mowing even though I used to get much more. I’m not sure what could be causing it to lose power so fast. Any ideas?
Where's the step 2 solar heater video. And how come comments turned off on part one?
When is part 2 of the solar heat going to be released?
He is not posted a new video it over a year since posting these three videos I hope he's okay
Hello, ryobi zt480ex won't run the blades more than a minute even when the batteries are 100%. It’s about 3 years old but I could mow only the first season. Any suggestions please?
Hi Marvin Sounds like you have a bad battery cell in the battery pack, What I would recommend is : remove charge and test each battery separately , you will need to use a 12 volt charger and a 12 volt battery load tester , if all the batteries have the same amphour test rating,,, then move on to testing the electronics , if you have a bad battery in the battery pack you will need to repair ( desulfate ) the bad battery or replace it . The charge meter on the mower does not have the ability to detect a bad battery as it only measures voltage over time, and can easily give a false reading of the state of the battery pack charge level.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm at 49 hours in mine. But ran into a snag. As soon as I go forward it stops and then beeps till I let off the gas. Same with reverse. The blades won't turn either while I'm neutral. It's full charged too. Any suggestions?
not being there to help you and diagnose the problems it sounds like you have a bad battery cell in the battery pack, What I would recommend is : 1.make sure the mower isn't plugged in to the charger. 2.make sure the emerg brake is off. if the problem still persists then you may have a bad battery. please test your batteries individually. remove and charge and then test each battery separately , you will need to use a 12 volt charger and a 12 volt battery load tester , if all the batteries have the same amphour test rating and they test good, then move on to testing the electronics , if you have a bad battery in the battery pack you will need to repair ( desulfate ) the bad battery or replace it . The charge meter on the mower does not have the ability to detect a bad battery as it only measures voltage over time, and can easily give a false reading of the state of the battery pack charge level.
This was an excellent video! I would not considered myself “handy” but following this step by step I was successfully able to replace my batteries. Is there a way to bring my old batteries back to life? If so what kind of charger would I use. Thanks so much for putting this together it was a great help
depending on how many charge cycles you have put on the batteries will depend on how much life is left and whether they can be brought back to life. the best charger for this purpose is a multi stage charger with pulse technology built in to ( maintain ) the battery and disulfate it at the same time
It’s amazing how calm she is. So relaxing. I’m trying to figure out if I want to use scissors or clippers. I’m only going to have 3 sheep, the reason I don’t like clippers is because I haven’t seen one with a guard on it. I’ve groomed dogs before but never sheep and I’m so afraid I’d cut them with clippers.
Brian I accidentally removed the drain plug a few inches towards the front which is below the drive motor. It only drained 175 ml of oil. I then drained from the correct drain plug and removed 135ml of oil for a total of 310ml. Do you know if fill the unit up with 310 ml from the top fill plug will it distribute the oil to both reservoirs. Thanks Paul
I'm sick of my one year old Ryobi 42 in. 100 Ah Battery Electric Riding Zero Turn Mower. Wont charge even though batteries are new. Any advice on how to possibly recoup some money by getting rid of it???
if you were close to me I would buy it but I am sure we live too far apart. sorry I have no suggestions for you.
Thanks for your video,I don’t understand how you charge each battery individually, what is the process also I have the Ryobi partly taken apart ,want to know how to desconect the censor wire
yes you can charge a 12 volt battery that is connected in a series of batteries , for me to explain how this works would take too long and this is the wrong forum for that, I would recommend you watching more videos on series and parallel battery charging to help you understand it better. the sense wire is disconnected from the battery in the battery compartment shown in one of my videos. you are welcome have a watch to see how it is done
How come you hooked up your PowerPulse desulfanator to the positive and negative terminals of the same battery? Shouldn't the positive lead be hooked to the first battery in the series' positive terminal and the negative lead to the last battery in the series negative terminal? I'm confused?
I have abandoned the onboard powerpulse and purchased the newer battery chargers with the pulse built in.
This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability, deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.
Maybe a small piece of foam in addition to the duct tape would do the trick. Personally the beeper never bothered me, but it's nice to see how easy it would be to diminish the sound if I wanted to.
I am not sure why you had to remove all the batteries from the tray. All I did was to pull the tray with the batteries about 95% and I can reach the fill plug easily without removing any battery.
Always undo the fill plug first. Just in case you find out you can’t get it off
Smart!
Agree 100% and do not remove the axle breather plug either. If its damaged or lost, you have a difficult time finding a replacement.
I had the 75AH version but recently converted to 100AH lithium (LiFePO4). I was shocked to see that after I mowed my yard I had only used about 8.5% of the battery pack, whereas with the old lead acid batteries it used to drop to about half when I was done (until a few weeks ago when I could only get about 20 minutes of work out of it, prompting the conversion).
That may have more to do with the way that battery state of charge is measured. The mower is really just measuring voltage drop, which tends to fall off quickly for SLA batteries, and then hover around the halfway point for a long time before dropping further. Not sure why, but LI batteries always seem to provide a much more accurate reading of their state of charge percentage.
This video was extremely helpful. A handyman come out to replace a battery in my mower - exactly the same as in the video - and I made him watch your instructions! We got it done. HOWEVER, either my charger is bad OR the charging port is bad. Do you have videos on either? Ryobi no longer makes the charger. I bought one that is supposed to be compatible but it either isn't or the port is bad. I don't know which. Any suggestions?
One battery may be defective from factory , test the leads with a DC voltmeter on the batteries making sure they individually read 12 or 13 volts each, then test the total voltage should be 46 volts to 54 volts. then test the charge port to see if it has 48 volts at the socket, then make sure your 24 volt sense wire is installed. if one of these tests incorrectly you know where the problem is. I would personally charge each battery up individually like I did in my upgrades video, then I know for sure how each battery is performing and desulfating.
Hello, thank you for this video very helpful! A few questions for you. 1. How do CCA relate to amp hours? I have the 75ah so want to understand how much of that capacity I have left. Is CCA a linear proxy for that? 2. How did you know what your batteries were rated for? 3. The 75ah was plenty to move my property when I first got it but now I wish I got the 100ah just to give myself a bit more leeway. Am I correct in thinking that if I need to replace one battery I can't just get a higher capacity one I'd have to replace all 4?
AH * 7.25 = CCA charge and desulfate each battery individually with a high quality 12 volt AGM charger , then perform a load test on them, once you know the condition of the batteries you can make a better decision moving forward. as batteries age they increase their internal resistance... putting in a new single battery will work, but not perform as you would expect because the other 3 batteries are the weakest link and have the highest internal resistance, the new battery will have a lower resistance placing the battery pack into misalignment , performing an equalization on the pack will help but they will still be slightly out of sync because of their age. an equalization charge can only be performed with a battery charger with that function built in from factory.
@@solarbrianyvonne very helpful thanks!
It's too bad that the default charging system doesn't have a desulfate mode built in. It would certainly extend the life of these batteries. Kudos to your camera operator for asking the right questions throughout.
thanks
I missed that sense wire...when I brought the batteries out, the white clip came off. - Do you know what purpose it does? - Do you know what the replacement part # is? Thanks for your help
the sense wire is designed to carry the 24 v ( middle of the battery pack ) voltage back to the charger for correct current adjustments during charging. sorry I do not know the part number.
Changing Transaxle Oil - SAE 30 vs GL80W90 Ok, so not so hypothetically speaking - what would be the consequences of putting SAE 30 Engine oil in the gearbox instead of GL4 80W90?
total destruction of the differential gears i am afraid , the pressure points on a planetary gear is extremely small by comparison the pressure points on a engine are large, and because of this difference and a few others, engine oil is made for lubricating combustion engines ( hi temp low pressure) whereas gear oil is made for gear on gear applications ( low temp Hi pressure )
@@solarbrianyvonne ouch - potentially costly mistake. The 30W was only in the differential for a few hours and the mower has not been run or moved yet. I drained the 30W and will attempt to flush once or twice with GL4 80/90 and report back.
I got one of the 42" tractor type mowers and Ryobi has certainly gotten better at hiding the beeper. I needed three different torx bits, an extender, and a right-angle driver to take off the side panel and access the beeper.
Love this, subscribed 😎
Thanks for subbing
Thank you for the video, I just had my batteries replaced under warranty and was able to follow along step=by-step.. It made the daunting task much easier! Taking my time it took my an hour and a half to swap out the old ones with the new! THANK YOU!
Glad it helped
Did you have to pay half for your new battery’s? I just checked they said they would pay half of what I will have to pay to replace the batteries. Just wondering.
And where did you get your batteries?
Hey, great video but one quick question. I'm looking to upgrade all of my 50 ah batteries to 75 ah. Would this be a simple drop-in solution that could use the original charging system or would I need to make additional adjustments when upgrading the amp hours? Thank you so much in advance!
replacing the 75 AH AGM with 100 AH AGM does not require any changes to the charging system.
Thanks!!! @@solarbrianyvonne
