Transforming my Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel with a Rugged Ridge HD Bumper
After the visit to Rocks and Valleys, a new bumper was in order, since the last one didn't stand up to the abuse that I gave it. So before leaving the parking lot, I had already knew what I was going to order, and it was ready to purchase. And a thanks to my buddy Jay, who came to help... significantly made the process easier.
While not always the brand that people float to, I chose the @ruggedridge HD Rear Bumper for the Jeep Gladiator, as it somewhat matches the front, has some steps, and give some good points to be able to connect to if needed.
I didn't realize that meant that I was going to be losing my License Plate lights at that time, and I resolved those with another Rugged Ridge part, their license plate lights. (www.amazon.com/Rugged-Ridge-11233-10-License-Plate/dp/B074MLZ2DL)

To celebrate Mario's Birthday, a few of us went out to Rocks & Valleys in Harrison, Michigan. This is a small video of our epic moments, along with our fails and epic Moments. This park is definitely not great for long wheelbases, nor full-size vehicles.. but can be managed most of the time. Hows the eco diesel?
@@justinsali6581 overall great. I'm glad I didn't get the gasser. But do wish I sprung for the Rubicon...
@@trailtothevoid i have jt Overland diesel just got it 16000 miles waiting on recall to put 37 and 4.5 inch lift on it i guess . the dealership i got mine at only let me do 6 inch lift max and 35s tires or else will void warranty. Should keep or trade it for mojave or rubi gas used?
@@justinsali6581 so I'm on a 2.5 lift with 35s. Mine is also a JTOD, roughly...73k miles. I'd like 37s . But don't think it'll happen anytime soon. Might want to find a different dealership, because technically anything non Mopar they can say will void it. My dealership doesn't really care unless the warrantied part was a modified part. That's just my two cents. I'll keep mine and won't trade it in, mainly because I love the diesel platform.. and eventually the things that are my issues with it will be a thing of the past.
@@trailtothevoid you think it’s pretty reliable?
@@justinsali6581 Overall. Yes it has been. Have I had issues, yes.. but they were all resolved via warranty work, or were being replaced anyway. (Recall for the HPFP was about the only thing that was completely out of my control, and concerned me.)
Rad 🤙 Cant wait to see it at Rogs and Coffee someday!
@@mjenner89 I am going to try to make one this year... But it's hard because of the day that they typically have it on

@@Captain_Yodelstein 😂😂 1 piece...I guess... Rofl.
Thank you, was just curious how the flap rolls up behind the back window. Im assuming you want it up when driving, or you're solely reliant on the mirrors. Im like you, i don't want the plastic window option. I want to attach my kayak on the roof one day. Curious as to what attachments would work. Thinking about a rhino rack. I saw Dakine makes pads that fit the cross bars to rest equipment on. Definitely would love to see your truck in action.😊
@@ronnierebhan229 joe, the crossbars can hold kayaks down to it just as if it would on a normal crossbar for any other kind of vehicle. So any attachment point that you have for that kind of a setup should work as well. As for how that flap rolls up, it just unzips part way. It doesn't unzip from the sides like the other sides do and you roll it up from inside the bed and it holds up from the top. They do have the option of having a window that you can see through in the back and the far back as well, but I chose to have all mine be completely closed off so I rely on my side mirrors 100% and my plan is to get a mirror camera where I can put a camera on the top and the back of the bed rack and have my mirror be a video feed
@@trailtothevoid thanks, would like to see the way that back flap rolls up behind the rear window. Those types of details are no where to be found on wild tops website. Thanks for the information!
@@ronnierebhan229 won't be able to today
@@trailtothevoid no worries, i appreciate your willingness to help me and others to become more informed on this product.

Is it necessary to remove the tires?
@@jinoh7418 ok... So... Not entirely. But getting the weight off the tire is required. To put these brackets on you are in essence temporarily removing 2 of the 3 bolts that hold the wheel hub onto the steering knuckle. Don't put that much stress on the bolt or it might cause issues. If you don't know the wheel hub is the piece that your rotor and tire bolt to
@trailtothevoid so lift it just a little bit? No way I'm tsking my 38s off haha
@@jinoh7418 yeah. So if you lift at the axle, just enough so the tire is barely touching the ground that's the ideally way. And you need to have a 12 point socket or wrench.. I wanna say 13mm... But don't quote me on that... I think I said the size in the video. But yeah, just don't want the tire pulling down the hub or the vehicle weight pushing up.
@@trailtothevoid thanks man!
LOL, their not going to get ripped off, broken or fail. Unless you never off road it of course. Thanks for the vid.
@@basementracer7622 not sure what you meant by that. My main issue has been I didn't have a way to flex and check clearance. (I had a clearance issue already because of light location on the bracket, so I had to bend it back.) Otherwise it definitely works fine, just need to tweak position to be best as possible. However more usage and off-roading is coming.
1) there is ZERO REASON to do this BS, ZERO
@@CristianZamora that's a matter of opinion. But hey... If you don't like it.. that's fine. But not really a good reason to bash it. Like it or not, just keep moving otherwise. But hey... Just means you watched it which helps me.. even if you don't like it.

Did it automatically turn off at 30 psi?
It turns off automatically at whatever pressure you set it to. In my case, yes. 30 PSI is what I had set it to.. They do have cheaper models as well, which do not have this feature, and you have to air up and check each tire individually.
@@trailtothevoid ok thank you. You made up my mind for me.

It definitely is one of my favorites. I don't know if it is my favorite though
Thats so nice! But i would have to be in an RV! No bears or mountain lion's!
In the area we were in, there's very very few bears if any and they're very rare to be in that location. And as for mountain lions, it's a heavily traffic area so a lot of the wildlife kind of stays away

SWAMP ASS!!! Man, that Mudd didn't want to let me go! It kept pulling me in further.
I made it yesterday all the way through! 23 Jeep Galdiator Mojave, no lift, 255 85 17 mickey baja boss xt. 4 wheel low, rear lockers engaded. That was a fun hole! Great Video!!!
Nice. Most not be too deep right now. Otherwise that wouldn't happen. A friend of mine on 37s in a rubi gladiator got stuck in it and had to winch.
I’m sure with the right line and enough throttle someone could power through it. Might be less deep as well. I tried crawling it through the center and I sank to my axles.
@@trailtothevoid Few weekends ago a Rubi Glad and JL Rubi on 37" made it no winch, GR616 club. It was Deep, Gladi lost a mirror! My axles leveled it! Passenger side was somewhat dry so the rear pushed me through. I went downhill btw to be fair, I plowed out the first section, took a breather and went back in for the second half. Croton to White full trail, skidder was the ender then got some pizza and beer on the way home.
@@Mojuck616 pictures? Video?
I am thinking it was in a different hole. The hole everyone gets stuck in is filled with leaves in the bottom and the dozen times or more times I have been through there, I have never seen anything on 37’s or smaller make it though. I want to see pics if it happened.
“You were good but then you didn’t go” had me laughing
How many times you been told that? Lol
Will a stock gladiator sport make it up the steps?
On part. Sure. But not the spot I went up. Not without a lot of rock stacking and skid plate scraping.
What size tires are you running here @@trailtothevoid
@@sprocket374 those are 35" tires.
Nice 👍. How are your new seat covers holding up?
Overall holding up well, however I'm not sure I'll keep them on. Being pleather they aren't breaking in much.. And you stick to them really easy. Plus the middle seat in the back can't have a seatbelt which is a problem for me.
hello I was wondering how the diesel is holding up is it worth the purchase?
Sorry just now seeing this. Overall holding up well. Enjoying it just as much now as then. If not more. You can check my full channel to see more I've done with it!
Shout out evart!
Yes... Luckily it didn't end bad. Lol
I saw another vid where that winch was able to fit in that bumper, with some slight mod. I'm getting the same setup and want to know what fitment issues you ran into.
Ok, so the issue on why I couldn't fit it was that the bottom of the grille actually was pressed up against the control box. Either the grill would need to be trimmed, which I'm not willing to do, to accomodate this winch, or I moved the head out of the way and had a box made to put the guts in, under the hood. The newer, probably option that most would choose is to swap to the newer JT/JL front grille, as it's shorter and gives that clearance.
Looks like a great install. Let us know how they hold up.
So far it's ok. Rear is a bummer still. Wife hates them because she sticks to them
Good to see Greg in the video. He walked that hill climb!
That rear locker made that easy for him

We appreciate it either way @WarthogOverland. @Tommy-rr7ez, a lot of vehicles in this group may have looked like mall crawlers (Which I think is what you meant), but most of us did do a LOT of the harder stuff, even though I didn't film it.
