    Another great topic,I agree with everything you said,I use mono especially in summer to slow the fall rate of my lures,like you I fish around weed,I fish AFW wire in pretty much the same way for much the same reasons,the only real difference is I use barbless hooks for everything even crank baits,I change the trebles out to singles,keep the videos coming,I'm looking forward to your views on braid versus fluro as main lines brilliant

  • @paulharris6886
    @paulharris6886 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Great info as usual Ash. I’m with you on fluoro leader length, go long, but I start off with it as same length of my rod and that way I can judge near side margin depths quite easily when the water is coloured. Do you ever consider barbless if there’s plenty of pike about? Best of luck with Lure Battle. It would please me to see you and Thom at the final 👍

    • @Ashcostaangling
      @Ashcostaangling 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks alot mate. Personally I use barbed Hooks only i think barbless hooks actually do more damage as they can slip and tear the fishes mouth more. Barbed Hooks tend to stay in.

    • @Ashcostaangling
      @Ashcostaangling 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks alot mate appreciate it. What i tend to do with retrieves or atleast how I like to retrieve the lure on certain methods is talk about that in videos dedicated to a specific technique. Any video iv put out so far on a method Iv covered atleast a few different retrieves in them. Is there any method in particular your looking at?

  • @Edge-of-Reason
    @Edge-of-Reason 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Well said sir. Water I know held decent pike and big perch, word got out and fluro killed all the pike. Had one perch anglers tell me no pike had ever been there! That's people for you, say what suits their agenda.

    • @Ashcostaangling
      @Ashcostaangling 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's a very sensitive subject, personally I think on single hook baits once the pressure is released on the point of the hook ( if a pike bites you off ) 9 times out of 10 the hook will fall out pretty quickly. Alot of fish i catch on single hook baits once iv netted the fish as soon as the pressure is released quite often the hooks come out in the net. The issue is fluro being used straight to the lure on things like crank baits that could cause an issue with the pike shedding the hooks.

    just off up the canal and usually use Flourocarbon. Just a quick question on the length of the wire trace. Do you make them that small for real or were they just short for demo purposes?Definitely need to get me some of the AFW though. Gets expensive buying ready made traces.

    • @Ashcostaangling
      @Ashcostaangling 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It really does vary mate i would probably say 12inches would be my average on lures under 10cm. Anything over that I would probably go to 18inch. On finesse techniques tho I have gone down to as short as 8inch without issue. 12inch tho in my opinion is a good starting point.

    • @Ashcostaangling

      On my neds 99% of the time I'm using flurocarbon as a mainline straight through. I use seaguar 4lb 0.16 reel soft. If pike are an issue tho there are times il add a short AFW trace in the 6.6lb but that's only if the pike are really fired up and the perch aren't having it

    Brilliant listen mate that was. Any possibility in doing one about fishing a specific venue type like a river? but have a huge section of the river severn to target but I'm unsure how these techniques transfer over to moving water. Cheers

    • @Ashcostaangling
      @Ashcostaangling 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks alot mate. Ye it's somthing i can cover in up coming videos. In a flowing river I would look for the slacks as the fish should move into them especially if you have any rain water coming through. It is worth a few casts in the main flow tho casting upstream and letting the current bring the lure back to you, all you really need to do is take up the slack. By casting upstream you get a much better presentation.
