    Bit iffy at first about your video, but your multiple positives drew me in. Yes, I loved Alien: Romulus. I saw it at the cinema and was blown away. I found it interesting what you said at first about cinema today. Yes, the romance of cinema is dead I'm afraid. It's not the same anymore. Mobiles have certainly ruined it, but it's the culture in general which has. Cinema is still the place to see movies first, always will be, and I don't bother with networks or Netflix or any of that. But yes, sad really, but that's the way it is now. Alien: Romulus went right back to basics and all the better for it. I am with you on most of it, but not the end. Best thing about it for me was Cailee Spaeny in the lead, and no sign of Ripley, which was fine by me. However, what you said about the old android and lines of dialogue, they were a nice hark back to the original movies and I had no problem with them at all. They made me smile and why shouldn't someone else deliver those lines? That's me. Last thing I will say though, and this is the biggest thing for me, is that I loved Alien: Romulus so much, that it is my favourite of all the Alien movies. I have a copy of Alien and Aliens on U.S. blu ray, but when it comes down to what I want to watch more, the answer is very simply, Alien: Romulus.

      I guess in hindsight, it was nice to see a likeness of Ian Holm again in an ALIEN movie. I just wish it was done a bit better. It is a very well-made movie there's no doubt about it, and we can only hope Fede Alverez does the next one. Thanks for your comment! 😁👍

    One of my favorite movies of all time. Slow? Who cares? I could watch the Enterprise in the spacedock or V'ger fly-through scenes for days. Hell; as a kid, before I had a VCR, I recorded the whole movie on an audiotape (an audiotape) and just listen to it on my Walkman. lol. This is my favorite ST movie and probably my second favorite sci-fi movie ever. Everything you said about it was on point. Alot of fans don't really like it but it is true to Roddenberrys original vision. I do prefer the director's cut better than the original. The first directors cut came out in 2000 I think and some of us have been waiting for them to update it to HD for a long time. But in the recent one they added the original ADR that they didn't have time to put in the movie and that gave some scenes a different feel. There are also some subtle sound effects that were added like on the Klingon bridge there are extra background computer noises that don't sound overdone. The only thing I didn't like was in the malfunctioning transporter scene they changed the sound a bit so you don't hear them scream at the end so much. I always found that sound a bit unnerving. It's probably the only director's cut of a movie i felt worked better than the original.

    Great review again. I’ve always loved this film, my father rented it on VHS in the early 80’s, I only saw it from the halfway point and it fascinated me as much as it scared me. I saw repeated episodes of the original series on tv but they never really interested me. What changed my mind was Star Trek IV, I saw that on VHS when I was 12, and the video had a prologue (only the video, not the dvd or blu-ray version) and it was excellent, in just a few minutes it got the audience up to speed on the events of Wrath of Kahn, The search for Spock and the Genesis device and then dovetails neatly into the third part of an unofficial trilogy with The Voyage Home. I was intrigued, I had to track those movies down. I’ve been a fan ever since, and when I was a little bit older BBC2 started to broadcast The Next Generation, fantastic stuff (DS9 and Voyager were also must watch for me) Star Trek TMP is number two on the list for me, it’s a truly epic film that I never tire of watching, The Search For Spock is my favourite, it’s just so good, the things that they do for friendship is what inspires me, it also looks great in 4k and has my absolute favourite Trek Scene ever: Stealing the Enterprise. Jerry Goldsmiths score for TMP is worthy of an Oscar win (should have) and Ilia’s theme in particular is on frequent rotation in my music library. I do own the 4k directors edition of this movie, but I agree with you that the original cut is actually preferable, I don’t mind wire removal (like with The Black Hole) or subtle reflections being erased (the cobra scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark) but dropping huge cgi sequences into a 70’s sci-fi film is kind of silly and unnecessary (Star Wars did not require it, but hey whatever makes a buck I guess) Anyhoo, it was great to go over this film with you again, I love all the Star Trek movies in one way or another and feel very lucky to have been around to experience them again and again. Finally……am I the ONLY person who thinks Star Trek:Generations was excellent? Such a great ending, “Somehow I doubt this will be the last ship to carry the name Enterprise”

    • @TheFlixFiles
      @TheFlixFiles 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I like all the ST movies, even The Final Frontier, but II, IV and TMP will always be my top 3. Search For Spock has some great dramatic moments in it - and some great lines: "How can you be deaf with ears like that?" "Up yer shaft!" I think because I'm such a fan of the original series, in my heart I could never fully give myself over to The Next Generation, and that carried over to their movies. I can watch them and enjoy them, but I tend to gravitate towards the original 6 movies when I need a Star Trek fix. Generations does have some good moments though, the Saucer crash landing is excellent! I'd be interested to see if you agree with the other films I talk about through the rest of this year, a few more sci-fi and some action movies are coming. Thanks for watching and thanks for your detailed comment! 👍😁

    Its nice to see Peter Hyams getting some attention. I remember watching his movies in the 1980s and being impressed, as you were - he was a definite auteur, within commercial limitations, and he had a cool visual style - quintessentially 80s - that you explain quite well at the end. If 2010 had been a success his career might have gone into interesting places, but it wasn't, and his later years were rather a disappointment compared to his eatly promise. Still, he was one of the most interesting voices of mainstream cinema of the 80s...

(I actually saw your thumbnail in my feed and thought at first that you were Terry from Terry Talks Movies 🙂) So, Matthau is basically doing a kind of weird Australian accent! I hadn't remembered that from when i saw the movie on television decades ago. Curious to see Polanski making a Richard Lester film. I'd have to say comedy isn't Polanski's strength, although I probably should rewatch the movie...

    Hi Flixy. I agree and this is high in my top 10 films of the 2000’s. Not a great advert for Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Very disturbing, especially as the baby is clearly distressed IRL. Similarly disturbing, I don’t think the girl at the start is dead as you see a tear as SJ stands over her. 😢 As an aside, Mark Kermode spoiled for me the ending to 1941’s Citizen Kane and I’ve never forgiven him. Good job precisely editing out the nudity. 😀

      It isn't a great advert for Scotland I agtee! 😂 But a powerful, well made film - and what a showcase for Scarlett Johansson. Her performance in this is brilliant in it's simplicity.

    Really excellent selection. 👍You’re in for a treat one day with Seven Samurai.. I felt the same about Citizen Kane but I finally watched it and I can see why it was so ground-breaking at the time. Looking forward to your deep dives on Under The Skin and Death Wish 3. UtS is in my Top 100 of all time (at 27). DW3 is not in my top 100 (but I haven’t seen your video yet!😀). Merry Christmas 🎄🧑‍🎄

    When you started talking about the big box rental 007 video I was literally shouting at the screen “please say you still have’. So well done, it really is a thing of beauty. I have about 10 VHS tapes tucked away (all rewound of course) and still have a player connected to my system. My association with 007 began with Moonraker. After Star Wars I went to see anything sci-fi that came out, and as you know there were many in the following years. My dad had to explain to me the history of the character. I remember the following year, 1980, I was on a week long school trip to Whitley Bay and we were shown The Spy Who Loved Me on video, I’m guessing probably another big box rental tape. My love for 007 was cemented from them on. Roger Moore is my Bond too. I saw him live at Norwich Theatre Royal a few years before he died. Although I didn’t meet him in person it was still thrilling to see him in the flesh. Meeting celebrities is one of my hobbies but I’m yet to meet a Bond. Like you I watched each one as they came on TV. I remember being impatient as OHMSS was rarely shown back then. When it finally came on I wasn’t disappointed and it remains one of my favourite 007 outings and thankfully, the film has been vindicated in recent years. And as for your car story, rather than being a sad tale I can assure you that many other 007 fans were with you in spirit.

      @TheFlixFiles 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      🤣 I'm glad I made you shout at the TV and be vindicated, lol. Sadly, I don't have a VHS player anymore but would never part with my TLD VHS. It's just worth more as a memory than any real monetary value! I do plan on doing more specific James Bond videos on my channel as I love them all so much, so keep an eye out for them. I am a big fan of 80s action movies, so I want to do more of those going forward (Bond will obviously included in this). Thanks for commenting! 😁👍

    Hello there Mr. Flix. I discovered your channel when your Black Hole video came up as a recommendation (spoiler, it’s one of my all time favourite movies). However, I’ve decided to start at the beginning and go on your journey with you. I have a recent personal story regarding The Black Hole that I’ll share with you when I reach that video. I’ve seen 14 of the 15 films you list here. Nice to see two David Lynch entries. I’m much more of a TV than movie buff so 👏👏for giving Twin Peaks a shout. I’m only a year younger than you and it would seem that these movies had similar effects on us back in our youth. I had an immediate nostalgia burst when you mentioned watching 2001 and Jaws on the tv. This was my first time too for both movies (I’m also in the UK) so I looked up the date. 2001 - BBC One 1st January 1981 7.35pm Jaws - ITV 4th September 1982 6.45pm And for the record Star Wars - ITV 24th October 1982 7.15pm or 7.30pm depending on your region. The only film on your list I haven’t seen is Lawrence Of Arabia. So thanks for a great introductory episode. I look forward to catching up with your subsequent editions.

      Hello, and thank you for your lovely comment! I'm glad my (albeit) lengthy introductory video got you a little nostalgic, but a word of warning, I do tend to waffle on as you'll find if you're working through my videos! 🤣 Thanks for clarifying the broadcast dates of some of those movies. It's good they pretty much align with my memories of when I first saw some of them. Hopefully, you'll enjoy some of the other videos of movies I talked about up till now, and there's plenty more on the way! I'm still a young channel, so I'm still trying to get seen on the large stage of TH-cam, but it's getting comments such as yours which make it all worth while! 😁👍
