    @jvin248 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Cover crops will take more than one shot. You got a great start. You must have plowed the ground a little too wet so it clumped up and dried hard before disking? This fall I'd suggest to disk down residues and broadcast winter rye grain as early as you can (best is six weeks before first frost) so it gets good growth before winter. Then next spring plant corn/beans into the standing rye and roll it flat with a cultipacker 'down and back' after the corn/beans are just up out of the ground (or single pass with a roller-crimper). Then you have mulch that lasts the season until your main crop shades out weeds on its own. If you flatten (or disk) down the cover before the main crop is planted then weeds have as fast a start as your crop so it's like you didn't use a cover crop other than fertilizer. Since I have an old 50s shoe planter, not a modern no-till style, I set my cultivator to scratch trenches for the planter shoes to follow in while the rye remains standing. Here is who I am learning the system from: th-cam.com/video/L7q2N-Jf-lk/w-d-xo.html I found buckwheat brings in a lot of beneficial insects so scatter seed along the outside rows next to any fence rows/forests and that will become a barrier.

That fast hitch you were on the wrong end lay right under the pedals and you can sit it right up there n see what you are doing with putting that pin in. Got it running after 20 years with a tune up and decided to plant a garden rigging up an old Cole Duplex Planter. Since then I bought a Super A, 100, another Super AV, and a 140 last month . Not to mention about $1000 worth of accessories, planters, fertilizer hoppers, cuffs, shanks, sweeps, etc. Keep that water out of your fuel tank, it will cause it to rust. I had to clean and coat the tanks on my Super A and 140, because they wouldn't run due to rust in the fuel system.

    The only problem with adding pine straw is that it is "acidic". Check your soil Ph, you may need to add lime to raise the Ph back up. I tried planting a small backyard garden a couple of years ago and added compost to build the soil. Problem was it was more wood chips than compost and the wood chips absorbed all of the nitrogen that I added. I had to re-apply nitrogen to get everything growing. Once it breaks down into mulch it will release the nitrogen it absorbed, but it made the soil nitrogen deficient to start with. If you are thinking about adding manure to build the soil, get a sample and germinate a few green bean seeds in it first before committing. If they come up and look normal great. However if the second set of leaves are wrinkled or look off they have eaten hay treated with herbicides.

      So I had a soil sample done and found out my PH was low to start with. I’m planning on letting the soil rest this planting season with all of the fertilizer and lime that I’ve put down. This should allow everything to breakdown or at least start to breakdown. Hopefully next year this side will be ready to go. Thanks for the comment and the advice.

    I was worried about your heat source being low and catching the shavings on fire, but it was good to see you had capability to lift them. We had our chicks in a large plastic tote and found our lamp got really hot. So hubby improvised with PVC pipe overhanging with both ends into two buckets for stability, so it was higher but still provided warmth for the new chicks. Good tips given and I didn't know I could go ahead and add the apple vinegar to the water so young. I've been buying those pro-biotic packets. Thanks.

      No problem, thanks for the comment. I was worried in the past about the heat lamp catching the pine shavings on fire but by the grace of God it hasn’t happened.
