OFF-ROAD in the 2024 VW Atlas Peak Edition, DID WE GET STUCK?

So, the special edition soft roader trend is catching on with a few manufacturers, Toyota has its RAV 4 TRD (Which does ok off-road), and the Honda Pilot Trailsport is also good, however, this Atlas doesn’t have skid plates and doesn't have a whole lot of ground clearance, with only 6.5 inches.
To separate the Peak Edition from the rest of the Atlas family, it has a more rugged front fascia and a smattering of silver underbody cladding. Across the lower fascia is a gloss black "X" design that is similar to the design on the five-passenger Atlas Sport. The good news is all models now get standard LED adaptive headlights
The Peak Edition adds some black-out detailing and it has its own badging which is a black badge with an orange and chrome Peak Edition logo on the front quarter panel which in my opinion is a cool design. .
The Peak Edition gets black overhead roof rails as standard and at the back, the name strip is black with chrome lettering, a silver diffuser, and some fake exhaust outlets. It also differentiates itself by having 18-inch black-painted aluminum wheels with 255/60 all-terrain tires.
4 Motion
The Atlas comes with VW’s 4Motion system which uses an advanced electronic clutch on the rear axle that lets the rear wheels rotate while the front wheels power the Atlas in everyday driving.
Even when it's not engaged, the 4Motion system measures the wheel speed multiple times a second, looking for signs of wheel slip. The 4Motion software has been designed to engage before the vehicle’s front wheels lose traction.
The electronically controlled clutch can engage in a fraction of a second, sending up to 50 percent of the engine’s power to the rear axle as needed. If an individual wheel begins to slip, the Electronic Stability Control can slow it down, sending more power to the wheel on the opposite side with traction.
Under the hood
The only engine option is this turbocharged four-cylinder, it has 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, slightly less power but more torque than the previous 3.6-liter V-6. It drives all 4 wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. O-60 takes around 7.3 seconds, slightly quicker than the old V6.
You can expect 25 miles to the gallon on the highway so with its 18.6-gallon fuel tank, you should be able to go about 500 miles.

great review and car! not sure I'd agree that auto journalists have overlooked this one though... seems to be a darling among all the ones I've seen. though they do seem to struggle with how best to classify it - there are faster, more practical, more utilitarian, more modern but few if any cars have an actual parallel in the price range.
Is it big enough for a regular sized person? This guy is too small to really judge. (Plus not understanding that the passenger seat controls on the driver side of the seat is so the driver can create room for a task without getting out of the car and going around the vehicle)

VW America never gives what potential buyers want. An R-Line Atlas needs to have more power under the hood. An Atlas Peak needs to have skid plates, more ground clearance, and different suspension. Since about 10+ years ago VW America has had a lot of issues and missteps. It's why I left the brand and don't regret it. I've never seen an automaker be so arrogant in their mediocrity than the American division of VW.
I got a brand new 2021 atlas cross sport for 30,000$. Considering its almost the exact same car as a 50,000$ audi q8 or a 60,000$ porsche cayenne i would say i got a pretty good deal

I own a 2022 with track pad and just love it ! No fingerprints on the screen and who has time to be playing with the screen while driving ? I use consierge which automatically adjust heating and cooling , most don’t know this .

What plug is used for the plug in now? CCS1? Does it include a DC fast charge capability in case you wanted to charge it on the road or just AC charging for Level 1 and Level 2 chargers? You never showed how it plugged in to determine answers to these questions.

My manual says gas octane 91 recommend but also 87 minimum …meaning I guess absolutely no harm in using regular 87 fuel - correct?
Great review thanks - BTW the 'Hold Charge' button means 'Hold the button down and it converts the gas engine to 'charge mode' and it then charges the battery as you drive' Works really well too!

The V6 weighs less and goes faster with better fuel economy only thing your actually loosing is the exhaust sound and a terrible amount of low down lag
@charlesmcwilliam8727 the exhaust sound is important to me. That cold start is lovely on the V8
I will never buy a car with run flat tires. I prefer a manufacturer who provides the best possible ride quality. Not a bumpier / noisier ride with no spare tire and jack or place to store the tire.
Noticed a trailer hitch on video. Did you install? I can only find one for “F Sport” at Lexus. Looked at install directions and it describes three cuts or trims, one center and two at ends. Just bought an F sport 2024 NX450h+. Love it but don’t wan’t to cut it up to install a hitch.

Absolute dream car
If you really obsessed over convertibles you'd know the R230 generation [2001-2012] of Mercedes SL's was the most refined expression of the art. It's glass roof an exercise in virtuoso engineering. From the OEM with more convertible experience than any other and it feels like it. I mean this thing had an automatic or on demand power operated full sized leather wrapped roll bar built in. It came with a Twin Turbocharged V12 from AMG which to this day is gapping Tesla Model 3's. While coddling a driver ensconced in heated or cooled massaging seats. Which are not available on the LC500. Neither are the fully active suspension, fog lights and spare tires. Mercedes can't even build them like that any more. Absolute drop-top perfection.
I vaguely remember there being some mental options on the SL. I realy do like the SL too.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel is available, but does not keep the heated steering wheel function so cold climate buyers beware.
You are dead wrong. The 6 speed is one of the best. Perhaps you can't drive a manual properly. Nothing crunchy or rubbery on my R. I am glad I didnt listen to you. PS I traded in my GR Corolla for the R. Both are superb although the Golf seems a more mature substantial car and the GR is on the other hand more playful.
We took four adults, and the car fully loaded on a two day trip. It wasn't blunted. It performed greatly! You need to try this with your impressions.
Are you sure about the seats? Bespoke convertibles only comes with Sports Seats.

It’s all the manufacturers. They’re purposely killing the manuals by making them terrible to drive. The new JL manual in the jeep is gd awful. I’ve had multiple gtis and were great. The new R is poop. The wrx feels terrible. Honda is the last one to make a good manual and clutch. But being FWD I’m out

- The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4, not Pilot Sport 4S…lower tier category. - Red STI start button is just an accessory, not exclusive to the tS. You can get it on any BRZ - Engine is a 2.4L, not a 2.0L
fuel efficiency can be close to 35mpg on the highway and driving between 60 and 70 mph
This vehicle suffers from too many gears, frankly. It would be better off with taller gearing so you can rev it out more. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been over 6th gear. 8 gears would have been more than sufficient, but 10 is just a waste.
@@sly9263I like the extra gears. The lower gears are much shorter than the later ones. Cruising over 80mph while at 1500rpm is pretty good on gas for those longer trips.
@@zetapingpong I don't really have a use for long trips in a 2 door with limited space- I'd take the GX460 or F250 for that. I'll drive the LC like a caddy with my wife in the car, otherwise I want to hear it sing, which means I'm keeping it at or above 4,000 RPM at all times. Highway MPG is cool and all but at the end of the day I care more about enjoying the vehicle than saving a few bucks on fuel.

GTI engine upgrade and still available well contented in FWD. Basically the pre-refresh Arteon drivetrain. Love that they chopped the top to differentiate from standard Atlas. Not needed w/o 3rd row. Hopefully 1 more refresh brings the refresh Arteon drivetrain. (R engine w/ 7speed dual-clutch)
Trading in my 2023 NX350 F Sport 3 for the 2025 NX450h+ F Sport 3. The only things I will miss from the gas model will be the ML sound system and the POWER 60/40 split rear seats… everything else will be exactly the same but with new bells and whistles and a little more speed! 😎🇨🇦
As a former WV ID4 owner switched to Tesla Model Y I beg you not to buy this!!! Pretty much any EV except Tesla is like a nice train cabin with no railroad to ride. Disastrous charging infrastructure, nonexistent navigation system make it impossible to guarantee a safe ride for somewhat longer distances than your neighborhood. Tesla - is a completely different beast - I dont even think about charging, the car calculates everything for me, saying "charge for 5 minutes", even for 2-3 minutes!!! and the result is guaranteed. Just last week I made a trip from Boston to NY and back. Insane charging speed, super reliable infrastructure and integrated navigation. FORGET ABOUT WV! GO FOR TESLA!!!!

Nice minivan replacement with PHEV powertrain & 3.5L V6. The Pacifica PHEV just got some competition. Just let Lexus build them for a year or so to work out the bugs and let the dealers get the "market adjustment" nonsense out of their system. Love the off road portion with trashcans awaiting pickup en route. 🤣 The only other plug in three row SUV is the Volvo xc90, iirc. To answer your question this is better.

I remember my 79Trans Am with a 6.6 liter and only 200 hp. Thought it was fast back then. My how standards have changed! 228 hp with almost half the weight!
Car is awesome concept. Imagine if they could figure out how to give it like 378 hp. Damn thing would be unbeatable.
