The 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Off Road is a BEAST with a small PROBLEM!!
We tested the 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Off-Road, which has some improvements but it's not quite perfect.

For 2025, Toyota has added a few improvements to its three-row Sequoia SUV. This hybrid-only, body-on-frame beast is the most powerful Sequoia yet. I'm getting behind the wheel of the Limited trim, equipped with the TRD Off-Road package, to see how this brawny Sequoia performs. Since the Sequoia shares its platform with the Toyota Tundra pickup and Lexus LX600 SUV, this third-generation model should be a formidable package - at least on paper. But let's see how it handles the real world.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the Sequoia has introduced the new 1794 trim level, which is known for its cowboy-inspired design and luxurious features. The Sequoia 1794 is positioned above the Platinum trim but below the Capstone trim, offering a distinctive brown leather interior with walnut woodgrain trim, Texas-sized badges, a panoramic sunroof, second-row captain's chairs, and a towing package. Additionally, the 1794 model comes equipped with massaging front seats, a feature that is now standard on the Platinum and Capstone models. Unfortunately, for those interested in the Solar Octane exterior color, it is no longer available for the 1794 trim level in 2025.
Off-road kit
This one has the TRD Off-Road package which includes, Off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein shocks, Skid plates to protect against damage, Electronically Locking rear differential, Multi-terrain select, Multi-terrain monitor, Downhill Assist Control, TRD OFF Road badges, TRD Engine start button, TRD Leather-wrapped shift knob and Aluminum Sport Pedals. Finally, since this is an Off-Road trim you get 20-inch wheels wearing all-terrain Falken Wildpeak tires.
Under the hood
The Sequoia is equipped with the iForce MAX hybrid powertrain, which is an optional feature in the Tundra pickup. This powertrain comprises a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine and an electric motor, delivering a total output of 437 hp and 583 pound-feet of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission. Standard rear-wheel drive is offered, while four-wheel drive is optional on most versions of the Sequoia. The four-wheel-drive Sequoia limited, with an off-road package, has a slightly slower 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds compared to the standard model. The fuel efficiency for the Sequoia is estimated at 22 mpg on the highway.

Subaru hit a double with this car when they could have hit a home run. Bring back a new conventional automatic and a new non turbo boxer six cylinder and they could get there...and i agree with others that you can't beat the bargain of features with this subaru compared to other models which we priced at much higher$$.

Good review mate. In Australia we call that "stream" you crossed a puddle, but for a road car it handled dirt roads fine. This is on my shopping list for my next car. We drove the Rav4 GR-Sport in the UK which is the same drivetrain as this and were very impressed with it.
I purchased a 2024 jetta gli (white), manual and it is great. For me it was manual or nothing.
You should have used the downhill ascent it's under the driving knob and lock your rear axle next to the downhill ascent.
I own a 2022 Ram Rebel as well. Only the driver side does wireless charging the passenger side, the driver side mirror is auto darkening, but not the passenger to activate auto darkenin. You need to set it on the rear view mirror. Both mirrors are heated, and the 12v on the dashboard has constant power even when the vehicle is off. So, don't have anything plugged in for a long time when the vehicle is off. because you will drain your battery slowly. It looks like you have rear heated seated and both front seats and steering wheel. 🇺🇸👍🏼
These are not worth it as a new vehicle but thanks to massive depreciation they make great used Jeeps. They are better off road than almost any other vehicle in their class and they get decent gas milage and are comfortable. You can easily pick one up for about 20K.

The four wheel lock is not working. With the lock, all for wheels should spin at the same speed.
I got mine about 8 months ago and being my first EV I'm really satisfied by...Indeed range could be better but overall the car is smooth,solid and a real Subaru...Personally I drove and hold all Subaru's model front Impresa, Forester,Levorg,XV and the last one WRXSti...not any complain at all

I just replaced my 2015 diesel Overland with a 2022 4xe, and the electric motor's instant & constant torque on demand enables far better ediff lockup in tough spots. That together with the sway bar release, the 4xe is more capable. I love this versatile rig.

Heated seat controls are in the infotainment system
I just ordered a 2025 RS RWD and one of the reasons I went with RWD is because of the higher towing capacity of 3500 lbs. I wish more vehicles in this segment had decent towing capacity like this does, in RWD form. I want to be able to tow with it. I see the 2025 center console is slightly different than the 2024...is there a lower storage area below the center console that is open to the sides, similar to the Equinox EV? If so, that's great... I would like that better then the 2024 design.
This is a LT cheapie model. The LT has always had a different storage design.

I actually love that they come with all seasons. I hate swapping tires in the winter and it’s a sporty commuter…for me…that’s the tire I would want.
2024 models must have got that latest over the air update because the DSG drives like a dream on it now even at low speeds
A bit odd to review this car with the no EV range. In EV mode this car has about 220 hp with the front and read motors combined and it can do 80 on the highway no problem without the Engine kicking in. The droning Engine is not the best around town, but on the freeway it’s fine. I like the idea of the superior suspension, styling, luxury interior and lovely blue color, but I’d suggest anyone interested in this also look at the Rav4 Prime XSE with the premium package as it has better EV range, better cargo, better instrument cluster and I prefer the way the shifter and controls are set up in general. Both cars are hard to come by in my area, but the NX is a lot more expensive and all but nonexistent where I live.

Great video! I just bought a 2024 manual golf r (had a manual gti) and I am loving it. Question-you mention an S and S+ setting within the nurburgring mode. I’m not finding that on my model (I’m in the US). I’d love to capitalize on the settings you describe-optimizing the throttle and steering but softening the ride. Thanks!

Inside hood insulator is just USD $26 from ali express and very easy to snap on.
This not a conventional CVT. Planetary gear set with couple of electric motors. No steel belt or Pullys. No trans oil change for life. They cut corners everywhere as the Engine/powertrain is same as Lexus models and this uses Lithium battery instead of NiMH used in other models. Butter like powertrain.
I got the Corolla cross hybrid SE for 29,490/- with no accessories without floormats (Sep 2024) and enjoy it every bit. Steering is easy at slow speeds but stiffens at higher speeds. At highway speeds, it is not easy but the right amount of stiffness. Averaging about 52 miles a gallon. Each fill up around 460 miles. Small tank is enough. I had 5 cars in the last 30 years and had a flat tire only once in a parking lot. So no spare tire is not a deal breaker. Glad that I got a motor pump which might be more useful than a spare tire.
A bit disappointed in the fact that you gave all the credit to the tires on that hill climb. This SUV has torque vectoring, and I am pretty sure it would have made it up on almost any tire.

Have The '24 SE with more practical 17" wheels, EZ and fast manual hatch. 42mpg highway. In city errands for 10 miles or so 60 mpg is easy because it is mostly EV at those speeds. Now 10,000 miles. Quieter than 2012 Prius. Passenger seat seems low but comfy in all weather.

I really wanted one of these, but I thought it was Severely overpriced. The OTD price sitting $33-38k for a small cross over? It needs to be the MSRP OTD. No more than $29k. I bought a better value with a different manufacturer.

Corolla cross Hybrid SE is around 29,500 in Chicagoland. I got one with wind chill pearl paint (425 extra) for about 29,985. But no accessories though.

My Mazda 3 hatchback base model had 191HP with 6spd. For single guy it is all I need. I can fit my bike fully. And it cost $10K less than this Subaru box.

it should be noted that the transmission is an Ecvt, which isn't your standard run of the mill cvt. no belts or pulleys or anything like that. toyota's Ecvt's are all good old fashioned metal gears and electric motors. these also have 2 mechanically driven oil pumps and are very similar to the camry ecvt.
Came to the comments for the ecvt. They are as far as I've researched basically indestructible. But maybe this guy doesn't like them because of the cvt drone that this car still has a bit of. Edit: After watching the video a few notes. The traction control on Toyotas take a bit to figure out what they want to do and it would have clamped down on the spinning tires after a bit and probably made it over. Also simulating gears on a cvt defeats the purpose of infinite gear ratios and the fuel economy that comes with it.
