I am in Edmonton Alberta in Canada which is about 300 ish miles north on Montana. I have separate tires for winter is a great investment as some years we can have snow 6+ months in a year and the ability to stop and drive and accelerate is so much better with them. They do wear faster when it warms up so we try to swap to the "summer" or so call all seasons as soon as we hit mid May which may mean no snow :) Dave

Soon, I will need a laptop that can handle 4K video editing. On a boat there is nearly unlimited power available, though. We'll have 800Ah at 24V of house battery and a generator. Regardless of how much power I have available, I definitely don't want to deal with the size of a desktop. It has probably been a couple decades since I've done something besides custom-building a desktop. So many options...

A good question. I’ve not heard of them having problems at high mileage, but I had 155K when I sold it. Since then, I’ve driven another 50 which would be 205K. I think what really drove me to sell it was wanting a bit more space. After two weeks, I found it a bit cramped.

My rule of thumbs with this unit has been to count on 10 minutes of max runtime every hour. That covers my typical usage (items already cooled, inside of a hot car, small additional 12v fan to blow hot air away from the vent.) With max being a 60Wh draw, that means I'm pulling 10Wh an hour or 240Wh a day from my 1800Wh battery unit. I generate ~500Wh a day from my solar panels (200w) so that leaves me roughly 360Wh a day without going into a power deficit. With my laptop running ~10 hours a day (I write), my hotpot running 2 hours a day, and the additional electronics I use, I have enough power to run normally for about 6 days before I need to recharge the unit from my car. (Converted Prius stealth camper)

I just bought a F150 (2023 5.0 V8 regular cab 4x4 long bed). Very excited you’re going to do a build on your truck! Love your content…hope you share a lot of that build on TH-cam.

That’s the plan! But I have a Scamp to fix up first. :)

Your titles always crack me up. Not that the content isn't entertaining as well, but the titles give me the giggles.

Do they have a fan to cool off the condenser, or jist dissipates the heat?

I’m not really sure of the difference. I can say now that the fridge has been going strong since I made this video.

The mileage you report for your truck is way higher than the EPA numbers.

It's about 2 MPG higher, but it's what I get. Illinois is very flat. :)

@@jeffwagg I saw 22 highway. I just wanted to help you make your decision using actual numbers. Over 20 for a big V8 sounds like nonsense to me.

I bought a 2-1/2 gallon black collapsible bucket with lid. Leave it out in the sun to absorb heat, bam! Hot water, or at least warm. That volume is easy enough for most people to handle (~20#), vs over 40# for 5 gallons of water.

If there's a running board or running step at the inside of the van, drill a hole. The water poured on the running board is below the floor of the main van.

Can the van door be closed with the stove on, with the sunroof open?

I use my stove with the doors closed and the mushroom vent open. Never had a problem.
