Thanks Nick. One of my all-time favorite Elvis songs. The 73 Aloha version is in my opinion the best version of this song. Despite the words of the song, I find this quite an uplifting song. Out of these two versions, I think the 72 version is the better of the two. In 77 although his voice was still brilliant (if not deeper) he struggled with his breathing in songs, so he didn't hold notes quite as long, but he did add little bits here and there. I could listen to him singing the phone book (not that they exist anymore), but his voice was just amazing. Well done on you approaching your 100th video. Thanks for this song and reaction.

The SUN version will always be superior. Don't know why RCA decided to pitch it down and I will never understand why the felt the need to add drums.

First heard this song in 1992 , aged 17 , my dad was playing elvis greatest hits on the record player. Before this i was a happy hardcore raver , with hair to my shoulders. That night my music spectrum massively widened. Elvis definitely was special.

Have really enjoyed your channel over time; hard to believe it's going on 2 years since you started doing Elvis reactions and I think I've been 'here' for all of them. Thank you for the time & care you put into your reactions; much appreciated. Hard to say which version of "You Gave Me A Mountain" is my favorite. The 1972 version is much like the 1973 version or should that be vice-versa; and, it's the one I've seen the most. It took a long time before I was able to watch any clips from the 1977 Special; just too painful & sad knowing that the end of Elvis's life was near. That said, I love the 1977 version too because it demonstrates Elvis still innovating his takes on his music; and of course, there's his big smile at the end that tells you that he was pleased with his performance of it and of the fans' reactions. Thank you again for all of your efforts on behalf of Elvis and his fans.

I struggle to watch anything from his 1977 concerts as I find them too upsetting, but his beautiful smile at the end of this one made me smile too, even though I also had a tear in my eye. He was a beautiful man and an amazing entertainer right to the end 🥰🥰

Awww Elvis we love and miss you so much. Both of these are special to me. When the music soars through him and his body reacts to how it makes him feel it is always amazing to watch. The last performance made me want to just hold him and say thank you for all he gave to us. It was emotional just seeing him knowing it was his last concert. While the '72 performance was very good, i prefer the '73 Aloha performance. In '72 the music seems to overwhelm his voice (probably just how it was recorded). I respectfully disagree on '77: Elvis' voice is clearly weaker here, at times he almost seems to talk his way through it rather than singing. That is why there are only 2-3 songs from this concert that we are familiar with (Unchained melody, Hurt, How great thou art) as the rest really weren't up to the level we expect from The King.

Another fabulous reaction video - always giving us soething to look forward to on a Sunday! This was a song that Elvis introduced to his set list on 26 January 1972, and a song which would evolve from being not just an integral part of the Elvis Presley show, but to being a poignant almost autobiographical number, especially in hindsight, in the final couple of years. Despite being written by Marty Robbins, Elvis introduced many early renditions of the song as by Frankie Laine and uses the same lyrics as the latter. Marty Robbins wrote the lyrics in the first verse as 'despised and disliked by my father' and Frankie Laine asked Robbins' permission to change the line to that subsequently used by Elvis which was of course 'deprived of the love of a father'. The first of these two renditions was filmed for and included in the 1972 documentary movie - Elvis On Tour, and was performed at his 9 April 1972 evenig show in the Hampton Roads Coliseum. This was incidentally, the first tour after the Las Vegas engagement at which he introduced it to his set list. The second version was filmed in Rapid City on 21 June 1977 during the second of two shows filmed by CBS from which they used performances to compile the TV special Elvis In Concert. However, circumstamces dictated that with Elvis' death just six weeks later that it's original airibg would be posthomous.

I always hate watching the 77 concert ( it makes me sad to see him like that ) but seeing back to back versions made me more aware of the extra vocals he inserted into it. I didn’t want it to end because it was a long time since we had seen him on TV. Never got to see him in person which I will always regret and this was aired on TV two months after his death.😪🥰
