Very nice ! Day one doesn’t disappoint.
Day one started off with a bang! 💥Super fun trip‼️
Great video. Thanks so much. Retiring next year and heading out to many trails like the GAP/C&O, OTE, Katy, Erie Canal, etc. This one is top of my list for mid-summer riding. You two are the best!!!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! And a big congrats to you on your upcoming retirement! I hope you get to enjoy all the trails on your bucket list. Well wishes and happy & safe adventures to ya! Thx again😎✌🏼🚲
I realize it wasn't the main focus of your ride, but I feel you missed a big biking opportunity, and a way to avoid the bridge. At St. Ignace, you could have taken a ferry to Mackinac Island, biked around it, and taken the ferry to Mackinaw City.
Thanks for letting me know! Perhaps another time we will try that route. We still had a blast the way we did it. 😎👍🏼
@@Iliketoadventure if you've never been the island is a must. You can rent bikes there or bring your own. There are no cars, just pedestrians, horses, and bikes.
@@auntdee845 I’ve heard about the island but have not yet experienced it. It’s definitely on our list now. It sounds amazing! Thanks again for letting me know. Happy adventures to you this summer!🌞👍🏼
Hi, looks like a fantastic ride. I'm planning on doing a similar ride within the next month (San Rafael to Yosmite, 4 days). I currently road and gravel ride in Florida (flat) but also have a home in Marin where I've done mainly road riding with some climbing. I'm planning on bring my Diverge Carbon Expert from Florida at the end of this month to do this trip (researching gear now) and was wondering if you made any gearing changes to your bikes. My current setup is Shimano GRX 1x (40t), 11-42. Do you think I'd need a granny gear (46t) or smaller front chainring for this trip? and may I ask where you all stayed each night? and did you cook or dine out? Thanks.
Hey thanks for watching! This indeed was a fantastic ride! I did it three consecutive years in the month of June. The temps were definitely warming up! The first year, I also rode back solo from Yosemite to SF in two full days- 200 miles! I wouldn’t recommend trying that- the head winds were not fun either! But definitely an experience . The first two rides, I rode a Bianchi Iseo (which had custom touring wheels). My third ride, I was using a Kona Sutra touring bike ( much better and easier for the steep climbs!) My Bianchi did not have a granny gear, but I still made it to the top! Haha. Along the way, we stayed at a family friend in the pastures of Jenny Lind. The second night, we stayed at an empty Church community center in the mining town of Sonora. The third night, we camped outside of Yosemite Park at the Pines campground- which was awesome. The descent down to the bottom was epic and last 8-10 miles of coasting. Hold on and enjoy! We were also chaperoning a small group of 8th grade grads, so that was a little intense and we def had a n overall slower pace. We all made it tho! I hope you get to do this ride. Let me know if you’d like to see the strava of this ride. Good luck with the prepping. You are gonna have a great time if you do it. Yosemite is so beautiful! Cheers😎✌🏼
there use to be a high rock we use to cimb

Love that opening sun ray !
Beautiful sun rays poking through the clouds and a chilly early March lake breeze blowing in too. Love this coastline!
I'm not too far from this trail. Gonna have to check it out. Those drone shots are pretty cool, too. 👍
Hey thanks for watching and adding a positive comment! I hope you get on this awesome trail! Cheers😎👍🏼
Beautiful. Great video. I cant wait for spring to do this.🍻
Hey thanks for watching and adding a positive comment! This was a super fun and beautiful trail to ride. I hope you get to enjoy it when the weather warms up! Cheers😎🙏🏼🚲
Wonderful video. Thank you much. Would you say that trails were 70% of the tour? This is on our list after Ohio to Erie Trail.
Thanks a bunch for watching and adding your positive comment! Appreciate it👍🏼 I’d say prolly about 60% bike trails along the way but still very rideable! Overall felt safe and comfortable with the route. Might have been a few stretches of little road shoulder but mostly felt good. I hope you get to check this ride off your list someday! Cheers!😎🙏🏼🚲
I watched the entire video in one sitting. I wonder if that stretch near the Michigan City steam cooing tower was the only uncomfortable trafficey road ride. I did that and the Calumet Trail and the beaches in 2015 on a Indianapolis to Grand Rapids ride. It's nice to know that there is so much good cycling infrastructure on this loop. My bucket list got longer today.
Thanks for watching! I’m so glad we did this loop tour! It was such an awesome adventure. A great ride to put on your list for sure. There were some sections where we were not on bike trails (like in Michigan City area and also riding eastbound at times along US 2 in the UP-with the logging trucks) but overall it was a terrific and safe journey. I hope you get to enjoy it someday soon!😎👍🏼🚲
Added this to my "Bike It List"!
That’s awesome! I hope you get on this loop at some point soon! It’s was an incredible journey! Thanks for watching~ cheers😎🙏🏼
Thank you for the video. Great! Do you have the route on Strava or bike with GPS?
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting! I highly recommend this trip! 🤙🏼🚲With our ride, we mostly followed Adventure Cycling maps (see North Lakes Section 2 & 3) from Escanaba, MI to New Buffalo, MI. We had hard copies and digital access to the maps on my phone. These AC maps did not cover our entire route, so we had to use google maps to plan our route from Chicago, IL to Escanaba, MI as well as New Buffalo, MI to Chicago. I programmed the directions into my Garmin as well. Still managed to get off trail for moments! All part of the adventure! I can share my strava ride if you send me a quick email. Cheers!🙌🏼😁👍🏼
@@Iliketoadventure awesome! I am familiar with ACA and will check out their maps. If you provide me your email, I’ll send you a request. Bret
Adding this to my bucket list after I do the Erie canal in May. I have driven this route, so I'm curious on how you got from St. Ignace to Mackinaw City area? Is there a ferry you didn't talk about?
Hey thanks for watching! Erie Canal sounds like a great ride. I hope you enjoy. Good question. During our adventure years ago now, Mackinac Bridge had indefinitely suspended its bicycle trailering program as part of measures to help slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Also, as you may know, bicycles are not allowed to cross the Mackinac Bridge on their own. Luckily, my mom just happened to be road tripping in her van through the UP at the time. She met us on the north side of the Mackinaw Bridge and drove us across. We stayed at the Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground and then continued pedaling our way down the MI coast! It was awesome. Otherwise, I’m not sure what we would have done! Perhaps the Mackinaw bridge shuttle service is now available tho - something to research further. Thanks for watching and safe/happy travels out there! Cheers😎✌🏼
State of Michigan says there’s a phone on both sides of the bridge. They will haul you across no charge. You may need to wait though.
Also, thanks for your nice comments about the Wisconsin side. Watched another guy and all he did was complain. It was obvious from rest of his vid that he didn’t plan very well.
@@FLUSHER822 great news, thanks for the update. I’m glad shuttle service is back up and running!
@@FLUSHER822 I loved biking through Wisconsin! Beautiful state, terrific people, and great bike paths! 😊👍🏼

Hey thanks a lot for the nice comment! So glad you got to enjoy both trails! What a terrific adventure! Cheers😊🙏🏼
I been watching bike tours videos because I want to do one myself. I came across this one and noticed that you went through a small city I use to live in. Some my family and friends live there. That is Oconto part of the route from Green Bay to Marinette.
Hey thanks for checking out my video! We had a blast on this trip! We also enjoyed biking through Wisconsin and Michigan - there were lots of great bike trails. I wish you the best as you figure out your next adventure. There are many rail trails and bike paths out there to explore. Cheers ✌
Very nice! What drone are you using?
Thank you! 😎🙏🏼 I was using the DJI Air2S. I’ve really enjoyed flying it. It’s a fun way to capture an adventure.
It’s me Mr Marini Nur you teach me in first and second grade of your video so much
Hi Nur! I’m so happy to read your comment :) I hope you are enjoying your adventures this year. I am so proud of you!
Do you have a map or can link to your route from Columbus to Pittsburgh? Im riding from central PA to Nashville and this section (in reverse) is one im having trouble with.
Wow, that’s gonna be a fun ride! In regards to maps, I used maps from American Cycling Association. The maps were #2 and #3 from the set “Chicago to New York”. Are you familiar with these maps? I also used Strava- I am attaching the link so you can follow me. strava.app.link/2tuUuf5YyBb I hope this helps! Happy and safe travels!😎👍🏼🚲
I'm planning to ride Katy Trail myself solo too. Interesting tradition that people ring the bell when starting or finishing trail. 👍
It’s a great ride. I enjoyed the trail and scenery. The weather was great too, maybe got a little warm but all good overall. The bell was there, so I rang it😁 Cheers and happy adventures, friend! I always enjoy your videos! Keep on!👍🏼
Beautiful ❤️. Great videography and editing and music 👍
Thanks for taking the hike with us! 😁❤️
Who is flying the drone? Homing drone? Don't know much about drone videos.
Good question! I’m flying it while riding!😁 At times, I also activate the auto tracking and it follows me without having to control it. Drone technology is amazing these days! I’m still learning as I go but it’s a great way to capture the beauty of an adventure. I was using the DJI Air2S. It worked amazingly-was quite impressed with it! Are you looking into drones? Doing any adventures? Cheers!👍🏼
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to do the same trail in July. Is there a route that I can find online to follow the same route as you?
Thanks for watching and adding a positive comment! We had a blast doing this ride! With our trip, we did not have our itinerary all set. We did try to plan a couple or few days ahead, but we were also quite spontaneous. We were initially concerned about campgrounds possibly being full since it was the heart of the summer. Whenever possible we looked ahead a day or two to see if we could book a camp site or hotel/motel. We never had issues getting a site. We also never really knew how far we were going to make it each day. Sometimes we chose a cheap motel/hotel/Airbnb, etc. Overall, we were giving ourselves about 3 weeks to do the trip, not knowing how long it would actually take us. If I was going solo, I think I could have done the trip in approximately 12-14 days, depending on the many variables (weather, my health, bike health, special locations, etc). We mostly followed Adventure Cycling maps (see North Lakes Section 2 & 3) from Escanaba, MI to New Buffalo, MI. We had hard copies and digital access to the maps on my phone. These AC maps did not cover our entire route, so we had to use google maps to plan our route from Chicago, IL to Escanaba, MI as well as New Buffalo, MI to Chicago. I programmed the directions into my Garmin as well. Still managed to get off trail for moments at times, haha. All part of the adventure! I hope this info helps! Cheers and happy biking around the lake in July! 😁👍🏼 🚲
You got some great views with this drone following you. I just rode the GAP trail myself. Month of May is the perfect time to ride everything is so green.
The drone has been an amazing way to capture the beauty around me while biking. I really enjoy using it. That’s awesome you rode the GAP! It’s one of my favorite trails. And yes, May is a terrific month to ride it! Happy summer, happy adventures to you!😎👍🏼
@@Iliketoadventure I rode most of it on the first day 118 miles and finished up the next morning but if I would ride it again I would take more time and explore more. I have a video too if you want to check it out. Have a great day!

@@FollowThomas C&O is another epic trail! I experienced some crazy rainy weather and flash flooding along the C&O two summers ago. Hope you get great weather! I’ll be watching! Cheers😎✌🏼
thanks for this lovely adventure, trying to get my other half to do this but she will only go on electric bike, what maps did you use, looking at how far towns are apart for accommodation and of course charging points. thanks
Hey thanks for watching and commenting! Sorry for my delayed reply. Good questions. For this ride, I used maps from American Cycling Association. The maps were from the Transamerica Bicycle Trail. These maps were very useful. You can order either hard copy or digital versions. I like having them both. I hope this helps you! Happy and safe adventures!😎👍🏼
