My name is Ali and I am an amateur astronomer!
It all started with a trip to the scientific center in my home country of Kuwait. I was 8 years old. I remember being mesmerized from the start when I saw those mini telescopes lined up in the gift store. A decade and some years later, I was back home after spending 12 years abroad. That's when I rediscovered my love for the sky. I spent weeks researching the hobby, quickly familiarizing myself with all things optical! Recalibrated my budgets and bought my second telescope. It was a 12 inch dobsonian that I can barely move, and I took it to the desert the following night. It was there that I captured my first astro-image of Saturn.
"There has to be a better way to do this," I told myself.
At around 6am that very same morning, I placed an order for my first ZWO planetary camera and down the rabbit whole I was blissfully lost.

Focusers are integral to astrophotography for their ability to finely adjust the focus of telescopes or camera lenses. Their precision ensures sharp, clear images of celestial objects, even those faint or distant. Focus can shift due to many factors such as temperature changes throughout the night, so a reliable device that aids in refocusing automatically and precisely is crucial. Additionally...

So, after some more testing, my powerbox is not working correctly (see my other comment) and I will send it back. Other issue is that it is not supported yet by SGP. Finally I will buy the Pegasus Advanced that is just about 50 € more expensive but works with both NINA and SGP and if I have an issue I will get propper support.
Thanks for sharing set up using Stallarmate. Do you know if the software works with the iOptron GEM28 mount, I couldn't see it on the drop down list during the video?
Hi, nice review I bought the Pro version and dicovered two issues: 1. DC Port 1 is always ON and can not be switched OFF. 2. Connecting my Camera (ASI 533MC Pro) to a USB-3 port of the PowerBox it is not visible neither by SGP not by NINA. Connecting the Camera directly to my PC it works. The rest focuser, guide camera etc. works just fine, do I need to configure somethin? Am I doing anything wrong? Or is the power switch just faulty? Did you have similar issues?
Very informative, I'm receiving mine tomorrow. Question though, watching you go through the initial setup I did not see you do anything with port assignments. Does that not have to done?
I can't get this thing to guide no matter what I throw at it. After few hours of trying I gave up and went to sleep. Will mostlikely go back to sw Eq6 pro. It's a shame because I wanted something lighter.
Great News for us all !! And great reporting. I'm pretty pleased with my ASIAir however, I have several NON-ZWO cams I would love to use without the use of my laptop. I'm praying that Touptek get this together soon.
Did that have Onstep written on the side?
@@ianjeffery3762 It did indeed 👍🏻
Hi! Now that you have had, this mount a while, does it still track and operate accurately? thanks -jim
Already have one, but how attach de mount to the am5 pier?. I saw you have a plate (silver) between mount and pier. Where can i buy it?, Thanks
Interesting video might give it a try as I have just bought a 10" SCT that needs collimating, will this method work with the RASA 11 I wonder?
Great video, clearly explained. Is this software tool only meant for SCTs? Can it be used on Newtonian reflectors?
Nice video, but your music is too loud.
I was waiting for someone to review this mount and now you did it, thanks...
Brother this is sick! Love your channel by the way! Thanks for the review on the Juwei 17 mount. I'll be sure to buy one soon.
hi what brands is the box compatible with Zwo player one Touptek or all great content also
Great video, I am in the market for a small portable mount at this price point, but with UK VAT and customs charges, is it then really that much cheaper…🤔🤔
Nice review i have seen on Aliexpress nice to see a positive review
I believe the Pro does have auto dew heater control. At least two power ports can automatically compensate dew via the temp/humidity sensor according to the instructions. I assume you would just need to buy a 2.1mm To rca adapter to attach to the rca dew heater.
Your videos are very helpful. Question: Can you duplicate sequences and then just rename or change items, so you don't need to go through every setting every time? I've got a SM Pro coming and looking to get a heads up on it.. Charlie
Thanks for the insightful review Ali. I'm keen to buy it but wondering how to adapt it to the Skywatcher He5 pier. For now it seems it works with iOptron adapters or extensions.
I realized I didn’t specify my focuser. I’m using the Esatto LP 2 inch model. Thanks again
Thank you for your review. I have an Edge HD 8 with an Eagle computer and have had a problem with my curves and autofocus. There is a diamond shape instead of a nice parabolic curve. I reached out to Primaluce and they said my step size was too small and recommended a starting size of 3000. I played around with it and initially got good curves and focus, but now it’s back to playing games again. So, what step size are you using for your good results? I know “your mileage may vary” depending on the specifics of a particular rig, but I’m just trying to get a feel for a starting position and the experience of other users.
It sounds to me like you are getting a decent V-Curve. As long as your software finds optimal focus I wouldn't be too concerned. In any case, I use 5000 steps on NINA. My Focus method is StarHFR and my curve fitting method is parabolic. I use 5 seconds exposure for my broadband filters and 15 or more seconds for my narrowband. Hope that helps. Clear Skies!
Thank you so much. Waiting for the next clear skies and I’ll readjust
Finally good tutorials!!! Nice!
What about the power supply?
Great review!... on point.
Great review. Be aware of ZWO mounts abysmal support. My AM5 started to act up after 1 year. After a few emails from Simon in NZ, I was ghosted. I cannot even get a replacement belt from ZWO. I am glad you got some support from that company. That means a lot!!
How is Support to repair if necessary ???
I had no issues, they were very responsive!
Hey Ali! How are you? 👋 Did you make any progress with the Astro AstroStation? I have three videos on my channel about it. I hope all the viewers and Touptek are already getting ready for the official release.
can you make an update video on the mount?
I'm very interested to this. Do you know if, in addition to astronomical cameras of all brands, it is also possible to connect Olympus mirrorless cameras? I have AsiAir plus and it works very well with its cameras, but in addition to these it only supports Canon and Nikon cameras.
@@massimo541 I know it supports DSLRs but not sure if an Olympus mirrorless would be supported. I’ll check and get back to you 👍🏻
Hey Ali, Can you let me know if the AstroStation has something similar to the ZWO All sky polar alignment? I'd assume that it does, as pretty mcuh everything does these days, but it would be good to know for sure!
@@AlexN-Astro It certainly does!
Very good instructional video (apart from the repetative music) -you've got a new subscriber. With SCT collimation, keep in mind that when one screw is adjusted (in or out) the other two need to be adjusted at the same time. You may know that Metaguider has a new version as of August 2024. Clear Skies!
Top video, thanks.
Any possibilty of sharing some PHD2 guidelogs? Preferably one where guiding assistant has been run also. That is,if you are a PHD2 user?
No dew heater output....I'll pass. Great review.
As-salamu alaikum. This is interesting! I'm thinking of ditching the ZWO ecosystem to something more flexible. This might be the solution
Excellent breakdown for budget friendly rigs!
@@JuanCastillo-zx7wp Thanks!!
Hey Ali, thanks for another great video. I looked at various posts, but couldn't find a list of the gear you are using. Was wondering the type/brand of filters you've settled on, particularly narrowband? On another subject, have you read any of Sanderson's Skyward books yet?
@@tomstahr3272 Hey tom, I currently have a set of chroma 3nm filters and will be testing out a set of Antila 3nm. Good comparison videos idea perhaps? Have I read any of Sanderson’s books you ask 😁? My friend, I’ve devoured them!!
Is there a home postionning system on that mount?
Great advice! I love the way you broke it down and included the money saving options. My only complaint. . . Where were you last December when I started getting into this hobby! ;)
@@TheDostergaard I was probably procrastinating on starting this youtube channel. My apologies! Thank you very much on the feedback! Btw, I was a drummer all throughout highschool and middle school! Your channel triggered some pleasant nostalgia!

Hi Ali , nice video as always :) I’d personally recommend getting the ASI2600MC Duo so no need for a guide scope or a guide camera. It’s my go to camera (I also have an ASI2600 too)
Funny how you mentioned the FMA180 right off the bat and I just purchased that the other day to start putting together my first full rig. Only thing I have right now thats gotten me into this is the seestar, which i'm sure I'll be using for quite awhile still until I get this rig all purchased and figured out.
@@shadowOrgon The seestar looks quite interesting, haven’t had the chance to play with one yet! Anyway, congrats on the new scope and welcome to the club! Clear skies.
Dude, I really appreciate your advice, and I also appreciate you spotlighting some great aliexpress finds.
