Richard Reid Highlights from 1990/1991 season v Australia, Sri Lanka and England
A little montage of someone whose batting style and aviators certainly caught my attention as a kid in the early 90s - Richard Reid!
What a season he had domestically and internationally in 1990/91, opening the batting with Martin Crowe.
I always thought of him as a pinch hitter, but his strike rate was only 55. However, 47% of his runs came in boundaries... 4 or nothing.

The All Blacks had to dig deep to come back from 0-10 down in the 3rd and deciding test against the 1993 British and Irish Lions at a packed Eden Park. Watch for Grant Fox passing the ball while basically over the try line... no wonder he never scored many tries. Interesting how Gavin Hastings says at the post-match there had been talk about this being the last Lions tour to NZ... now they are ...

I’ll never forget Rory Underwood’s try in the 2nd test between the All Blacks and the 1993 British and Irish Lions at Athletic Park. Man that guy had wheels, as the Lions bounced back to level the series 1-1. www.pixeltees.co.nz

The All Blacks limp to the finish line in their final home test match of 1994. Unfortunately, it didn't get any better. A week and a half later they went to Sydney and lost the Bledisloe after Gregan's infamous diving tackle on Wilson. Fair to say 1994 was probably a year to forget for the ABs, but the building blocks for 1995 had been laid! Highlights from the 3rd test between the All Blacks a...

Is Smithy caiught swearing on the flash new stump mic at 9:06? lol
India should stick with this kid Tendulkar, he could have a very solid career 😉
8:55 Name of the commentator?
I am in4th class at that time, matches with wi,nz &sa cost india 🇮🇳 semi final chances, earlier close encounters with eng &Australia bad luck team to be eliminated
Frankly 9 think Azhar was not out
What was Shrikanth and Manjrekar doing in that team.
first cricket match I ever went to....was a fantastic day out for a 13 year old
Martin Crowe, Jeff Crowe, Chatfield. Memories of childhood
i think that Greatbatch catch was pretty suspicious i think he might have grounded it
My 12th standard exams
I was in 7 th class I remembered
Real cricket
Scott Gibbs try beautiful. 10 -0 up. All blacks too much for the lions. Should have won the first test really.. referee! Evans was an amazing Welsh winger
Buck Shelford said the all blacks were given a good old fashioned stuffing. Dewi Morris was terrific. Good to see Peter winter bottom there always respected in new Zealand. No series win. The second string team was poor. Gavin was a great fullback respected in new Zealand. Brave. Good kicker.
Great post. I was 14 in 92 in NZ at.the start of the WC. I recall England had thrashed NZ at home in the test series before the world cup. The team was in transition after retirements like Hadlee in 1990 and nobody expected much. Awsome world cup. It was such a shame NZ didnt go all the way. Opening the bowlimg with Patel. Willie Watsons slow seamers. Harris wonky dibblers. Great memories. Greatbatch a revalation opening.
Had no idea Wright was 37 back then 😮
I was at class 7 omg back in the days
Amazing crowd.
It makes all the difference having a packed out stadium!
So it was a t20 match
Scenes
Kickstarted a great month!
Most nostalgic world cup of. My life......❤❤❤
Love some bloody Max Walker on commentary!
30+ years on and I can still sing the jingle and even remember the order of the teams.... what a time to be alive and a young cricket fan in NZ....
Best World Cup ever! (except for that SA vs Eng Semi....) Crazy to see how many batsmen went out there with no helmet!
How good is that English commentator!!! What’s his name anyone?
Henry Blofeld. A class act, used to love listening to him, he came to NZ most summers during the late 80s/early 90s.
Best CWC, ever. I was glad to be apart of it.
This game had the funniest streaker
As much as you have to love Tony Greig - how comically stupid is his opening commentary in this one. Hudson gets a bottom edge for 4 to take them to 6 runs after 4 overs, next ball out and Patel ends up with 1/28 off his 10 overs. How about that mid wicket boundary with these blokes yeah Tony?😂
Shocking not out decision at 26:27. And Hadlee suggesting it was outside off stump. Sheesh.
That is as plumb an LBW as you’ll ever see - let’s be honest 😂
Martin Crowe was inspirational in this World Cup. NZ were given no chance of winning but beat Australia and made it to the semi final where they lost to eventual champions Pakistan. 10 year old me loved cricket because of this team.
Albeit he ran out 2 of his teammates in this game.
Nasty incident with le roux and Fitzpatrick.
Golden time of NZ rugby 🏉
And we didn't even know it at the time. Fun to rewatch isn't it.
Your opening batsman getting 19 from 56 really puts the pressure on
RIP Martin Crowe and Dean Jones
Harris run out of Boon was outrageous
Blew my mind as a kid! That kind of fielding just didn't happen back then.
My favourite quote from a book about the 92 World Cup: "[Greatbatch] played and missed two dozen times at Ambrose and Marshall. Unrepentant, he then walked down to Ambrose, swung and missed. Ambrose was beside himself with rage, and both of him advanced down the length of the pitch to warn Greatbatch of the folly of messing with 'Big Ambi' from any closer than 22 yards."
This was pretty much a Twenty20 match.
west indies, nz, south africa match expose indian bad feilding after this cup players retired like srikant, kapil dev, ravi shastri for bad performance in world cup
Bill Lawry made me laugh with Mark Waughs LBW. He was so plumb in front but Lawry is trying to say he was quite far forward.
Lawrie incapable of anything other than Aussie bias
I was also studied in matric at that time.what a nice memories of WC 1992😢
2024 ..Still watching it from 🇱🇰🇱🇰...wow..
Went to this game with my school, boic ... threw an apple 🍎 at a copper but missed and nearly got 6pack at long off.
yes the best world cup i can remember and i knew who all the players were
Don't know why they persisted with Latham opening he never got past 30 in the whole series from what i remember
NZ had problems with openers for a very long time.
N Z was unbeaten in this world cup but only Pakistan defeated NZ twice
I was in college
What a thrilling game that was.
A great little tail end effort! Fun to rewatch.
What a crazy ending that was.
Tell me about it! Plus you don't see ODIs going into a second/reserve day anymore.
Pakistan ❤ Imran khan ❤
Unfortunately with Oz commentators? Get a box of tissues you sook!
