500 Subscribers! Buying a Nikon Z30 To Celebrate!
I love this lens, it is especially great for sports and wildlife. Why spend thousands of dollars for a 400 Z 2.8?
Hi im an urban photographer, im planning to switch nikon. Would you suggest Z5+great lens or Z7ii+average lens.
Excellent video, exactly what I was looking for. Greetings from Brazil.
What is your fouse setting my fouse get stuck
Since this video, you can now edit locally in Lightroom and not cloud base.
If you're tech savvy enough you can build your own NAS using TrueNAS.
I would suggest a NAS drive setup, if you get one will more than one drive, you can have drive redundancy and it can automatically backup to backblaze. As mentioned below, follow the 3-21 principle, 2 physical copies and 1 in the cloud, or stored at another location.
Remember that Online storage is not backup if your files on your computer gets currupted or other file crypting virus. It also destroys the files to the cloud if it is connected to the computer. Use 2 onsite backups at home and 1 offsite. It is important to save files in places that is only connected to the computer when backups are copied. I have seen too many times people whos dropbox or onedrive "backup" failed.
I've had 3 WD drives all fail recently including a Time Machine drive. Have been advised by a recovery service to use Toshiba drives. HDD.s are easier to recover than a failed SDD.
Sounds good 👍
I bought this lens new a few weeks ago. I see that the edges of the front glass are not sealed, there is a considerable gap between the edges of the front glass and the plastic that covers those edges. I'm afraid it affects the weather sealing. Anyone having the same problem?
Very good video, lots of great tips Unfortunately, Adobe seems to constantly change things. For instance, about 7:18 you demonstrate Alignment Overlay CMD+OPT+O. I never know you could do this, so I tried it, and of course, it doesn't work. I'm using Mac with Lightroom classic, 13.2 Release. Please let me know what it's changed to
If I want to Rack focus or pull focus back and forth was setting should I use? Thank you.
Have you noticed the vignetting on the photos with large gray sky areas? I was wondering what lens you were using on those photos.
Liking the audio Steven, doesn't seem like you have a LAV mic also.... Boom mic? I always shoot raw for easier post processing myself. But for Timelapse's, really need to use uncompressed RAW, otherwise there's issues with exposure and timing on the D850.
I have found that people for the most part need 2 backpacks, one that is around 20L and one that is around 35L. My main 2 camera backpacks are a Pacsafe Camsafe V17 and the Wandrd Prvke 35L. I can highly recommend both (although I did modify the prvke to remove some Velcro, and added Molle so I could have a second water bottle holder). I do have a third which is not a camera backpack… it’s a hiking backpack from Osprey (stratos 34). It’s great because the sleeping bag compartment fits a 100-400 in its case. Basically perfect for hiking with a trinity of zooms and all the stuff you need for hiking.
i have ordered this bag before seeing this video, will get it tomorrow.
Great taste! Hope you like it!
@@My_Photography_Journey lol its neat, just will have to order a different bag for travel because this one is pretty small
I so agree with you. It is a heck of a camera with great features. My only challenge is that rear screen almost becomes invisible, outside against the South Florida sun.
I'm just coming in to my first summer with this one, so I'm hoping that here in the UK it's not quite so bad, such a shame when it's your only option
@@My_Photography_Journey Thankfully it is not my only option. I've been shooting Nikon my whole life and switched over to the Z system almost when it was released. I like it a lot!
Hi Steven, What do you think about this combination to be used for pets photography ? Would it work good, or i need to get Z6II ?
I have a couple of dogs and a couple of cats, these have been ok with this combination. However I prefer my Z30 with a faster lens too. I've not tried the Z6ii so can't really comment on that one
I have a z30 and have noticed that pictures look different in playback vs when looking at the live view, have you noticed that? Pictures seem normal when I see them later on my computer screen but in playback the colours are weird, like shifted toward magenta. Is yours the same?
Hmm, that's an odd one. I've not had that problem myself, I was going to suggest that it could be the 'Apply settings to live view' (custom settings d6) but if they look how're your expecting when on the computer that seems unlikely. There's also a monitor colour balance option in the Setup Menu that may be the culprit, let me know if you find anything like that
I have this camera and for photography only the only flaw, for my uses, is the single focus point can not be locked such that hitting the rear screen or any buttons or joy stick won't move the focus point. I can't believe this was left off.
I must admit, that's not something that I have had a problem with, my main problem has always been accidentally moving the control ring on the lens and switching to manual focus or taking a lot of unnecessary pictures from touching the back screen accidentally!
congratz, should be an awesome lens from what I heard - still using my 200-500 F mount with an adapter myself, but will upgrade hopefully in the future
Thanks! I've been really looking forward to putting it through its paces and now that the weather is improving I can also get the visibility needed to make it worthwhile!
excellent video sir, you have covered all the aspects .....thanks
Thank you so much, I'm happy to help!
I have the z30 and it makes very good videos with the kit lens. The same with the photos. And if you have the Ftz there are some very good FF lenses like the 50 1.8 and the 85 1.8. Now some viltrox apcs 1.2 have come out with tremendous clarity
I've been thinking about getting an FTZ actually, would be interesting exploring some of those lenses
This is interesting, im a Z5 shooter and like landscape, did you consider the 24-120? Probably like many im a little torn between the 2 and its a lot of money to put into either one, I want to think 120 will be enough and I'd appreciate the f4 for lower light situations and shallower depth of field throughout the range, but also wonder if I would find myself wishing I had the extra reach if I went for the 24-120 and telling myself if I use DX mode it would get me close at 180, but then of course you also have the DX mode option on the 24-200 also, cheers
That is a very good question! For me it was that extra reach that I wanted, I take a lot of my pictures at F8 or F9 so I wasn't as swayed by the F4 as the 200mm. I also kept an eye out for second hand prices (on mpb.com) for the lens too.
I have the 24-120mm f4 and it's a great lens to use. It has the versatility and a constant aperture. It really depends on the type of shooting you do. I like to use this when I only need to carry one lens and it's very good for recording video.
Love your commentary on the z30
Thank you!!
saludos desde colombia me sirvio mucho el tutorial ! gracias 🙏
Muchas gracias!
Hello steve, how are you?
I'm good thanks, hope you are too!
Can you send the link where you show the custom menu?
Sure! Check out these 2 on the Z5...it's the same menu system. I do intend to do a Z30 specific one soon as well. th-cam.com/video/RgloRMnX_f0/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/ldzL4_1gHxk/w-d-xo.html
PASM is universal. P for Program where the camera sets both lens aperture and shutter speed, A for aperture priority where you set aperture and camera sets a shutter speed, S for shutter priority where you set the shutter speed and camera sets the aperture and M where you have to set both shutter speed and aperture and make adjustments to one or the other in order to get the correct exposure.
Thanks for the info!
On most cameras, the P setting stands for program. But to be totally honest, I don’t know what it stands for on the Nikon
Yes!! That's it, thank you!! I think that's for choosing your own ISO but the camera does the rest? Never used it myself (if you couldn't guess!)
I own both cameras. Using the Z30 (outdoors) in the sun light is a MAJOR challenge. Thanks for posting your video.
Thinking about it I haven't used it during the summer months yet, I got it in October, so will definitely have to take that into account soon. I do love a viewfinder in the sunshine
@@My_Photography_Journey I think the Z5 / Z30 are a great combo. Just that the Z30 back-screen gets wiped out outdoors with the South Florida sun. I think Nikon knocked it out of the park with their Z line. That lens lineup (specially their primes) are high quality plus. They are NOT cheap, but excellent quality.
Very informative video. I like how you explained it. My question is, do I need to have a full time internet connection to edit on Lightroom classic. If no what can't I do when I don't have Internet. New subscriber from Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪
Thank you!! And no you don't! I love using it when I'm commuting, even the new tools like sky selection, denoise and lens blur are all available offline
I would love a tutorial on how to use the Z30. I hope you make one.
Thanks for the feedback, it's definitely on my to do list now!
Great to see, that you use the reMarkable 2 AND Tiago's PARA Method! I just bought the reMarkable 2 and I am looking forward to use it on a daily bases. I am also looking forward to your Video about the rM2 with Notion. I wish you a great weekend and keep up the good work on the channel! Cheers, Martin.
It's a great tool isn't it! Yes, I think using the 2 together makes them really useful
Paired with a Nikon 10-20 lens and the FTZ adapter, the Z30 has worked well in my arsenal for Real Estate Photography. 20.9M has proven to be more than enough for MLS listed images.
Fantastic! That's something I've never shot myself, do you have any trouble with distortion at wider focal lengths?
Amazing works
Thank you so much 😀
How do you get 11?
You can only go as high as 4.5 on the Z5. Some of the cameras have H* which allows even faster frame rates, but it does depend on the camera
@My_Photography_Journey that was my fault, i thought you was talking about the z30. I tried the burst mode last night pressed the shutter button till it stopped. i wanna say it took like 26 pics in a couple of seconds. I was like damn!!!! People sleeping on this camera for sure.
Oh completely agree! So much more capable than people give it credit for!
Hello my friend! You have a new subscriber.. Me! 😊😊 With regard to the tilting screen, you may find that in time, it proves to be an advantage rather than a disadvantage. One of the cameras I've owned had a fully articulating screen, but that in itself created a weak spot and after a while it broke anyway!
Hello! Thanks for subscribing! I'd be so upset if that happened, hadn't thought about it like that!
Love the way you handle a problem real time.👍 Very cool and professional.
Thanks! Really appreciate that, I'm glad I kept it in the video, shows the real side of things!
I’ve had this lens since it came out. I use it on my Z50. It’s a great lens for days out when you don’t want to take a big kit with you. We went on a steam train day trip and it worked perfectly. Great VR too. I don’t vlog, but I can see how handy it would be as it is sharp and light. Take care.
Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to taking it out and about a bit more in the coming weeks
It's an underrated lens
Completely agree!
I use it often when doing vlogs, such a light and compact lens. Not the best for night however.
Looks like you took the plunge! :) Nice one.
I did indeed! Agreed, it's so light and compact and easy to just throw on the camera and use
Just my 2¢ add more b-roll or slide in images taken on the product you're reviewing. 90% of your video is you. No offense but you're not Scarlett Johanson 😅 Also look into sound design. It's just your voice. Idk slide the body across the table off camera, into frame, open the LCD screen (click, click, click) as you open and turn it around. Look at it, close shut (click). Go into talking head, this is the Nikon Z30, and it takes photos like this (fade to black or white). Slide show gallery of random images using the camera. Add the settings to part of the frame. Overview of likes and dislikes of the past two months. 30s intro, 30s introduction, 1min slide show, that's 2min and you've entertained the audience. 1-2min on what you liked, 1-2min on what you disliked. That's 6-8min (8min is currently the target time for TH-cam videos). Video clips to show what the camera can do. Then go into video likes/dislikes about the video capabilities. Bright light, mid light, proper light, night light. A timelapse even of the body just capturing the changing lights of the day sped up. Omg this was so random. Just sharing b/c you present very well but man this was boring and I checked out of the video. I hear you, but I'm like, I'd rather just listen with a black screen on. Dude even a second camera angle would do wonders shot from your smartphone overhead. We could just see your hands. It's like I'm watching the 10 o'clock news 😅 I hope you don't take any of this the wrong way, not trying to be disrespectful at all. The bare minimum, 2 camera angles. Front view and overhead view. Auto align on the timeline, just fiddling with the camera would do wonders, just cut in and out every so often. Production time would be nearly the same length. You do seem like a busy guy
Thanks for taking the time for the feedback, much appreciated
Why Nikon over Fuji? Not baised just curious.
Good question! I nearly went Fuji but I really wanted a full frame camera and the Nikon Z5 was the best deal I could find at the time. The camera seemed to have everything I wanted so ended up choosing that over the Fuji
You’re a breath of fresh air!
Thanks so much! Glad you're enjoying my videos!
Awesome review! reMarkable is a great product. I could see it being helpful for shot lists and travel for sure. 🙏🏼 Thanks kindly for the mention.
Thank you so much! I completely agree, a great product with so much potential and they keep updating the software too which I really like! Thanks for your review prompting me to buy one!
Hello thank you for your video. is it possible to take video in portrait mode with this z30.
There's no mode to rotate the video in camera, you'll need to hold the camera in a portrait orientation and then rotate the video once it's in your video editing program, hope that helps
Good stuff, thanks, think I got it now :) your both method examples were very helpful. So, if I were shooting jpg only I'd set WB in camera against gray card in the scene, when possible. Elsewhere someone mentioned using coffee filters as a workaround, the non-reflective ones. I'll try it out, heading for your colour card video next. Found you via Z30 search btw.
Oh that's a good tip about the coffee filters, nice neutral colour....before using them for your coffee I would suggest!
@@My_Photography_Journey pre-brew indeed :) I still haven't figured how both neutral white or grey are usable for setting WB in post. With color calibration in the mix I might as well find a good RAW editing course to get the basics sorted.
