2020 Tundra first oil change (5000mi instead of 10000mi) visible metal material in filter. I expected there to be some that’s why I wanted to do this earlier than the recommended interval.

2019 and 2020 Tundras with the tow package option no longer have the cooler lines up to the condenser anymore. I put the Toyota parts on and installed the cooler. 6 months after blowing a head gasket I fired up the rebuilt engine from yota1 in Modesto Ca. I actually had a little starter gear interference so I had to fix that but I got it up and running and rings seated that’s what all the white smoke is. I had a code 52 knock sensor after start up but yota1 warrantied it and replaced it on their dime.

    It’s a lifetime fluid they said no 30-50k atf fluid changes they say, now no auxiliary atf fluid cooler they say😅 300f fluid is ok they say 🤣 engine debris they say then the recall on v6 turbo motors😂,you simple can’t beat physics nah it’s all cost cutting corporate greed gotta keep the dough rolling in for the investors keep them stocks going high 😅 please the investors before the costumers, and please stop asking about it Toyota when reality is already out there and in your face

    Did my 2020 today. Put all Factory parts “Use to work for Toyota so I got a deal” except for the external cooler. Runs like a champ. Was getting 215-220 pan temps just cruising along on the freeway. Did fluid exchange at the same time. Leaving it “unpinned”, 188 all the way home. Outside temps 95’ Feel a lot better now. Thanks for the video.

    I have a 2008 Toyota Sienna with 243,000 miles here in North Carolina, and I have a large full flow transmission cooler that I use both summer and winter. I use Red Line D4 synthetic fluid that I change every 50K miles. I do not tow with the car, but it shifts normally to this day both summer and winter. I believe the car as a whole will make it past 300K.

    How much is the difference in temp. Before/after??, i think that i want to put a transmission cooler in my xse v6 camry but TFT runs in hot day at 215f and my highlander xle runs tft at 195f

    Have you tried WITH thermostat, how did it affect temperature? I heard factory setting is 190 deg...

    Does anyone know of an OBD2 scanner that will monitor and display the trans oil temps? If we're going to install a cooler, it would be nice to be able to see the temps, and know its working.

    Have you thought about the Hayden 699 cooler? It has a internal 180 thermostat

      why? The Toyota part already has a thermostat in it...no need for a second thermostat.

      It runs between 150 and 160 but its 50 degrees here all winter long. If you live in a below zero climate I wouldn't pin the thermostat. I live were its 50-115 degrees so no need to have a thermostat on it. It still gets up to 200 in the summer when climbing hills out of TC lockup.

      Yes I did, bushwhacker OE style. I put them on then used masking tape to outline where they touch. I then installed paint protection 3M film to where they touch the body and then reinstalled the flares so that they won't stratch the paint.

    These toyota 6 speed gearbox are insanely reliable with stock trans cooler you can all the way to 700hp with only valvebody upgrade I had mine for 7 years with zero issues.

      yeah, I left it pinned as I explained in my video. I live in a warm climate normal temps here are almost never below freezing and in the summer are usually above 100F in the day time. If I lived in the great lakes area I would not do that, I would use the thermostat. Living somewhere that never gets down to freezing you don't need a thermostat to warm up the transmission.

    I am very intrigued by everyone who puts a trans cooler on their newer tundras. I think it can only help and provided you're doing it yourself, it won't hit your pocket too bad. My final decision on this, at least for now, I'm gonna run my 21 platinum CM until the 100k mile toyota warranty runs out and then I'll let the next owner worry about it. If toyota says it's fine, then I'm willing to call their bet and try it for myself. Don't tow a lot, maybe 5 times a month. Have tons of hills and mountains here in PA though.

    The transmission cooler is integrated into the radiator. Toyota didn't delete the transmission cooler. The fluid is designed for the temps. Waste of time and money.

      Not one part of your comment is true. No 2nd gen Tundra (07-21) has an integrated cooler in the radiator. From 07-18 they have a dedicated cooler in front of the radiator, which is what I installed. Why did you watch my video and take time to comment BS when you don't even understand the basics of what you're talking about?

      This is for the benefit of those who believe what AWOL posted is actually true. I recently added a transmission cooler to my truck because the temperature was way too high when towing (245 degrees F WAS COMMON). Since adding the transmission cooler when not towing, I rarely experience temperatures above 185 degrees F. When towing my 5000-pound camper, I hover around 195 degrees F. When towing up a steep grade, I will experience temperatures as high as 230 degrees F for a short period of time. The Tundra does have a cooler for the power steering pump which people think is a transmission cooler. Trace the lines and you will discover that it doesn't go to the transmission.

    I have a 2020 I picked up used with 20k on it, I took home and immediately changed oil. I assumed the dealer put whatever in it. I noticed metal in my filter cap. I put a OEM back on it and mobile 1. Hard to say what's normal since all my other oil changes have been the old style filters. You never get to see what's in it. I'll send a sample off next oil change and see what they say. Hopefully it's all good I don't plan to get another truck for a very long time.

    Some of the 2007-2018 that has a cooler that came with the truck have reached 1 million miles, I believe by removing it is their way of corporate greed. Not having the cooler will definitely shorten the life of the truck.

    Mu '06 Tundra tranny runs around 140 degrees with the factory cooler. Your 150 temp is perfect and will make that tranny live decades.

    Just did my 21 tundra at 5k miles yesterday and had the same thing. My sequoia is a 2020 and I never see this in it. Don't think I checked the first time I did it.

      I towed a 5000lb trailer in the summer 1000miles from the bay area to northern idaho and it never went over 200. I would drop it a gear any time it wouldnt stay in lockup and it kept the temps down even though I climbed passes and it was in the 90s

    I ordered the Genuine cooling kit came with everything, PRicey but came with the thermostat,hard toyota lines and two toyota soft lines and cooler and custom bracket..everything top notch a TH-cam video shows the install.I bought this for my new 21 limited . I intend to tow. You are smart to upgrade to add a cooler

      yes, the way I did it is less than half of the price of that guy's kit. That was my main motivation was how to do it for less than that. It is very nice, but 1000 bucks is a lot when it isn't even installed. The custom machined part is stainless and then powder coated...way to expensive and why would you need to powder coat stainless when its already stainless. If he wants to get a bunch of cost down, change that to aluminum.

      @@aprecision4013Agree, I basically copied his design, made the bracket with Aluminum, bought my parts and have a very oem looking installation for $500 less than what he charges. This cooler brought so much peace of mind…lol. I was monitoring my temps and getting into 230 driving by myself on my daily conmute…crazy! Now withe cooler it stays 185-190 at the most.

    What is the part number of the rotors you used? I’m installing a kit now and I am using the suggested 1985 rotors and calipers but the hat on the rotor is about 1/2 in short of reaching the axle flange when I have the caliper on

    There should be a class action lawsuit because it's is listed on the Moroney (sic) sticker. Had I known I would have requested one installed as part of the purchase price. My 3rd tundra and 6th Toyota. They lost my next vehicle purchase. Really shady of them to do this.

    Did you consider using the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Tube - Toyota (32907-0C020) hard lines or not required for a clean install?

      they were expensive so I decided to keep it cheaper. There isn't any need for it. I have the rubber hose there for a year with 10,000mi on it and no issues.

    Thanks for the information and video, I'm considering doing the same on a Canadian 2021 if I buy the truck. Toyota Canada lists the 2021 Tundra drivetrain in the brochure as having: TOW/HAUL Mode, Console Mounted Shift Lever, Lock Up Torque Converter, Transmission Cooler, Automatic Transmission Fluid Warmer . I'm reading Toyota is calling the warmer a cooler yet it seems they are listed separately. Can anyone confirm the CDN model is the same as the US model? One guy below mentioned the dealers say the CDN version is different. Had a look and a '21 I saw didn't seem to have the Cooler Assembly, Transmission Oil With THERMOSTAT - Toyota (32970-34030) but not 100% sure.

      look at the passenger side transmission. If it has the part I installed and the cooler lines going up to the front of the truck, then you have it. If you don't have it, you are just like the rest of the US trucks.

    I bought my truck new and I found metal on my dipstick at about 5k miles then did an oil change didnt see any for a while then seen it again had another oil change around 11k now im at 13.5k seeing the metal again does this sound normal or do i need to have my truck looked at?

    i did the exact same thing as you...and saw similar non-magnetic casting shavings. No big deal. That good oil doesnt stop working but mine was dark and dirty looking at 5K and I prefer to not circulate it if I can afford it. Heck 40 years ago using synthetic we used to run it in the newer cars then re-use it in the chevy truck we had...that never died. Thats the part I love and hate about the internet someone always wants to point to an oil analysis. The oil has to LOOK right or it aint right to me. Could care less what the analysts, Toyota or any entity that exists to make a profit.

      my thoughts are that most likely the shortened life of the transmission will happen after the warranty is up. If this gets it to 250k mi+ instead of 150kmi it would be out of warranty either way, but money well spent to put the cooler in now. I used Toyota components to add this on so in the near term they would have to prove that by adding their own parts that I damaged the transmission. I have 8k mi on the system currently and I just towed a 9000lb trailer from Ca to ID without any problems and never saw the pan go over 200F.

      I have an update video on my channel that I did a month or so ago. I actually just pulled a 9000lb trailer 1000mi from the bay area up to Coeur D'Alene Idaho and I never got it over 200 and that was in the hills and it was 110F air temp outside in Redding. I think it works really well.

    There's no way I'd wait 10000 miles to do 1st oil change. I've always done my 1st on every vehicle I've purchase at 1500-2500 miles, then every 5000-7500 thereafter, depending on the engine. Synthetic oils have gotten really good and the best ones can easily last 10000 in a naturally aspirated engine, but I like to waste time and money so I do them more often than necessary haha
