A Wonderful Hot NYC Bicycle Commute
It got a little toasty today but there was enough of a breeze that it didn't seem too bad!

It was a hot one today and I only had a long sleeved jersey, so instead of roasting with that on I wore a sleeveless t-shirt which didn't have any of the storage capacity that I'm used to, but the tradeoff was worth it! Hey bro. Are you on Strava at all? Looking for folks I can follow on there for motivation and the like
Good to see that at 12.25 someone else is adding to the graffiti in new york city, clearly there is still not enough ! Ha ha ha
🐻🧸🐻🧸🚴💯🏆👍😀
why would anybody want to drive in any city or small town a bicycle or e bike would be faster and cheaper
A bike feels much more enjoyable. It can be chill and relaxing when you want it to be, and when you put effort in to go faster, it feels much more exciting on a bike 🙂
summer time I use a e bike to go to work a gravel bike for everything else and winter hot and humid in Alabama
I honestly wouldn't mind an ebike...maybe something that had cargo capacity and was somehow made out of carbon fiber 😂
@BrianMcDonald try the bafang 750watt conversion kit with a 20ah battery, for the sum of $1,300, easy to install by yourself all click and play wiring, takes 3 hours and you can recharge the battery for only 28 cents !
🌞😊🥇👍🐻🚴✌️💯🧸🤗
Most intelligent pickup driver be like: "Wow I saved 0.3 seconds making it to that red light!"
most drivers are like that they pass me going to the same place with me right behind them
That's the problem with people that drive aggressively like that to save .3 of a second, because I know I'll eventually pass them and that increases the chances of them thinking I am doing the same thing they are doing and it becomes a dangerous competition to them even though I'm just going about my day casually 😂
Hah, I also give the "boooooo" rolling around drivers who flagrantly run a red and then get stuck in the intersection.
I feel like a boo transmits shame while being lighthearted enough to not create a confrontation 😂
I finally got a bike! But it came with two flat tires....soooo... not ready to join you yet.
Sounds like you need a pump to go with it! lol
I'm jealous of the fact it's not 110° there
I wish you didn't have to deal with that!
What got into you this morning? On average, most of your videos last about 21 to 23mins but today you did it in 20mins, one month ago, you posted a video which only went for 19mins ! For the first 8mins you where flying ! Were you trying to post a new land speed record in new York city? Or did you do some nose candy before you left the house this morning ?
If I hustle at the start of the ride I can get a long line of green lights which is why the time is shorter. The quickest start I could potentially get is if I go through the first right turn right as the signal is changing so I could catch the green lights before I turn left and make it past that first intersection that I usually wind up stopping at.
another day another bike ride
It's always an enjoyable part of the day for me!
Fourth comment (or fifth), was getting a little worried the video wouldn't go up.
👋👋👋👋 1000th comment gets a prize! 😂
@@BrianMcDonald I hope it's a new derailleur hanger because right now I have a random machine screw holding mine on.
That doesn't sound ideal! That makes me feel like I should have a spare lol
Yeah, I ordered two replacements to I have a spare on hand. There's nothing worse than a persistent creak that you can't get rid of... The mounting bolt is the worst tolerance, softest M4 I've ever seen. Stripped out without too much torque.
@@misterbigglesworth ouch. I want direct mount derailleurs from now on with no hanger 😂 I really like it on my gravel bike
THird comment, hey buddy !

where do you park your bike at work?
I am luckily able to bring it inside the building I work in.
The chequered cycling King of NYC is out on his daily commute 🚴
So... from bed ? Does this mean that your pyjamas are checkered? Ha ha ha , on a serous question, since you live in the centre of the universe ( if you ask any American they all say new York is where it is at ) do you every see anyone famous eg casey neistat , or 50 cent, or any other celebrities like yourself?
Yeah It's common to see celebrities in the neighborhood I work in.
Stay thirsty, my friend.
Cheers!
checkered long sleeve is back
It wasn't too hot for them today!
Hello! What do you use for recording?
I have a GoPro hero 9 with a chest mount :)
Was Chrome Helmet Guy a superhero?
Grasshopper, it has been more than 2 months since you did a 160km bike ride with your dodgy looking mates, do you still go on group rides these days or are you over that ?
I did a little ride a week ago with hundreds of people on bikes, but I don't post every single thing I do :)
🐻🧸😊🏆🧸🚴🌞👍
That F750 driver must have been a very important person.
Absolutely. I hope for their sake that the two seconds they saved were worth it! Lol
An F-150 became enraged when I passed them on my bike last week, started driving like that, and I caught up to and passed them at every single light.
It is a common and unfortunately normalized behavior
@@misterbigglesworth fun times every time
@@BrianMcDonald it is called being bored driving is very boring
🐻🧸🐻🧸👍🤗🚴✌️

5:56, had a flashback to the 1982 Tron lightbike scene.
Currant bun, beaming again 🚴 and nice to see the old bill / police doing something constructive, trying to catch these wankers on the mopeds.
I feel like they could do other things to better enforce illegal mopeds but they aren't known for the greatest strategies lol
We know that you own a few bikes, but do you own a car or scooter? The idea of me not owning a car is a very alien idea, as where we live is big distances, I guess being a new yorker, everything you need is within a few blocks from. Where you live, when was the last time you drove a car or rode a motorcycle? I have one friend whom has never driven a car in his life, he has not even ever got a licence ! Can you imagine that ? How do you travel from one side of new York to the other side if you need to get there in a hurry ? Train? Uber? Or do you bike it? Or the rest of the surrounding areas?
I've never had a car and the last time I drove one was in 2019 and that was the only time I've driven in the last 16 or so years. I take trains and buses in NYC when needed and as with most NYers I will walk distances that may seem longer to other people when it comes to walking. If I am without my bike I have got into a habit of using Citi Bikes since it's nicer to feel the breeze instead of being on a train. With my job I work with people that have mobility challenges so we will use cabs/uber/etc too.
What sealant do you run?
I use Silca sealant :)
@@BrianMcDonald I went with Orange Seal since there are times I don't ride for a few weeks to a month. My buddy got Silca and it dries out constantly since he doesn't ride much and his bike is stored in his hot garage. Have you had good luck with the replenisher or since you ride all the time don't really need to worry about it solidifying?
I have done two rounds of replenisher so far and I too have noticed it dry out a little sooner than expected
there were some tig ole bitties around 18:20 . thanks for the great catch
What time do you leave for your commute 🤔
Usually between 12-1pm
I think that the man on the bicycle at 3.40 reached into his rear pocket to pull out his lip balm, but changed his mind because you were there ! Ha ha ha ha
😂 No shame in the lip balm game!
When you say humid, how humid are we talking ? Here in darwin Australia we get 98% humidity and it is so lovely to cycle in ........ not
It was in the 90s earlier in the day but I think when I was riding it was probably in the 80s
Thumbs up
Thanks!
Did you ride the 5 Boro bike tour?
I've actually never done it!
The street trader at the end of the bridge seems like a really nice person 👍🏻
Why do they put a witches hat ( safety cone ) on the roof of the car ay 24.20? Is it because it is parked somewhere where it is not supposed to be? Or to teach the driver not to park to close to a work area ?
Usually utilities will use those cones to mark the start/end of a work zone. Sometimes film crews do it too when they have permits to block off streets. Basically they do it when they need to have a car parked in an area that otherwise would not allow parking.
general "hey buddy!" comment
Appreciate you!
Holly cow batman, you are getting more comments and likes ! Soon you will be rich and famous! Like that other person in new York that wears those painted sun glasses, you will be able to quit your job and make video's about riding all over new York, you may even start to do video's about the bike couriers like Skeletor !
I don't know about the whole rich and famous park 😂 I make like a dollar per video lol
@@BrianMcDonald better than nothing! Every dollar counts
You were spotted by some of your fans / those 2 fellas 😉 and the road bike is back 😉
I actually made some adjustments with the bike fit and it is feeling really good now!

Thanks for the link!
🐻🧸🚴👍🥇
Of course they are multiplying ! Occupational health and safety laws protect idiots and as a result they contribute to the gene pool, making people in general more stupid and with no common sense !
Agreed Darwinism has been removed from the equation
Thumbs up
Thanks!
So after watching your videos I had a fantastic idea, I built a track bike with drop bars and rode it for 10kms ! How theheck do you put up with those drop bars ? They hurt my hands, wrists and shoulders ! I instantly turned the bars up ( eg upside down making it so Much easier to ride more upright position is the way to go !
The bike is my size and everything is positioned based on my body proportions and flexibility. Sounds like in your situation, a higher and potentially shorter stem would allow you to use drop bars in a comfortable way while being able to utilize the multiple hand positions that drop bars offer (which is why I prefer them). If you handed me a pro racers bike with super aggressive geometry with very low handlebars, it would probably bother me too 😂
Hey buddy
👋👋👋
The glare coming off your arms is blinding ! Ha ha ha ha get a haircut and a tan stat !
😂 I try to keep the spf coverage going!
