Homesteading at Kooker Gehöft
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ส.ค. 2017
We're a young family beginning our own homestead, striving to achieve a healthier life via fresh & fermented foods, bone broth, & going organic when we are able. We love our garden, rabbits, chickens, goats, cats, and dogs. We mix modern with old-time methodologies here. We choose this lifestyle on the Gehöft (German for farmstead) because we strongly feel we were put on Earth to be conscientious stewards of what we have been given, not constant consumers with no regards to our impact while we are here.
We're not perfect, and we still fall back into old habits more often than we would like. However, we are on a determined journey to create our own oasis and live as much of a self-sufficient, healthy, and God-honoring lifestyle as we are able.
We would love to have you join us as we share this journey.

I'm harvesting herbs and wild medicinals on the homestead like crazy right now. Our passive drying rack is being continuously filled and rotated at full capacity to try to stock up for the next year! Dog needs to be in the house !
🙏🏻
You could use that water for the garden. I also put a bit of vinegar and let them sit for about 10 minutes.
How many loofa come from one plant?
Thanks for the easy instructions a friend has a "rose of Sharon" plant that i really love. ive been wanting to buy one for over a year now. But haven't been able to find a place that carried them So thanks for showing me how i can easily get a few ROS plants completely free 😊
Stick them in aquarium filter if you have an hob filter no water changes 😎👍
My mom didn't have a dryer until 1975, she was born in 1918. Every day that was pretty she would do a load of laundry. When the rain and snow came she was caught up enough to catch a good day for laundry during those bad days.
Do I need the whey?
@@frankieboola6867 It helps jump start the fermentation process and allows you to cut back on how much salt to use. But it's optional if you just want to use more salt.
Thank you. I tried your method and had success. The difference was in changing water daily. And when cutting, put them in water immediately. Thanks!
We're moving to Elkhart, TX in January to start our homestead. How's the farming out there? We're looking to have a garden and animals big enough to feed our family for the year and supply produce at the Palestine Farmers Market. Any advice?
What variety loofah are you using?
Great video! Subbed! Thank you!
i love the wild free blackberries
Bye doll. I like this way. Easy Im going to try it.
All mine but Helene have babies next to mom . :) I love the lil one, up down, and telling us more info lol. Doll baby.
I have so many rose of Sharon's.. They're everywhere on one side of my yard. They just propagate themselves. They're even in my neighbor's yard. They're all over my neighborhood. When i first moved into my house there was 10 Bushes side by side and they were about 14ft tall and super bushy. At one point i guess they were popular for everyone to have that they have taken over.
Kesini karena telur ku berjamur ,sudah aku masak dan dalam telurnya baik baik aja Apakah layak untuk di makan ? 😅
You did it so professionally 🎉
I just washed the mouldy egg and cooked it already.. now it's in my tummy😆
Hope you didn’t get sick
Hello, you have instagram ?
خر
I started growing my seeds a few weeks ago. I am enjoying seeing them grow. Thank you for your awesome video!
Thanks for this video! I was so disappointed that the yellow flowers in my yard/pasture was something fake. Not a real dandelion. Therefore useless. Now I learn it's Texas dandelion! And just as useful as the regular thing.!!😊
But sad to say, they were all mowed down yesterday 😢
@@ritaholcombe9905 They are pretty resilient, so they should give ya another chance in a week or two.
Rose of sharon is a non native invasive species. Just look at all those seedlings every year
It's not invasive here, as it takes effort to get one to survive the first few years. And I've never seen seedlings pop up around any Rose of Sharon bushes in Texas. Maybe it's different in your neck of the woods, though.
Great explanation! - Thank you! Your little boy is ADORABLE! ☺
Brilliant
Good morning from Leonard, TX! We are a lot like y'all where we are, and have been here since 2018!
No but you can buy them cheap❤
The TRHoF Committee invites you back to visit our new home of the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame. We renovated the Baggage Area of this same building and moved in 2019. As of our 2024 TRHoF Induction on June 28, 2024, we will have 71 cowboys and cowgirls to showcase. There will be a Western Art Show & Sale after the induction too!! With such artists as Wayne Baize and Mike Capron.
I used this when i was small,we actually used it to play because i didn't know the value then..wow
Love the info about rooting and keeping water fresh so for oxygen Rose of Sharon cuttings need. Thanks.
Any guidence if you need to clean this dehydrator?
So far, I've really only had to clean off dust, in which case, I spray it down outside with the water hose and let it air dry. If something nasty has gotten on it, I would probably clean by hand with dish soap in a large container or in the bathtub, then spray off with a water hose or a shower head.
This happened to me yesterday morning. I had woken up to my son crying and went to get him some milk for my wife. After I gave her the milk I noticed I just felt super tired and my legs were crazy weak and just felt off. I knew this feeling though because it had happen to me before and I prepared myself just in case. I sat on our bathroom toilet and when I stood up my vision started going black and I saw black dots everywhere as I started stepping into our bedroom it got worse and I started sweating heavily and my heart beat was very fast. I went close to the bed and just threw myself there and nearly passed out but caught myself again and quickly grabbed a blood pressure monitor I keep in my nightstand I don’t even remember the numbers but all I know is my blood pressure had to be crazy low. Went to the ER they did EKGs and they came out fine with also X-rays scans they came out good. Blood tests were fine as well. They ended up giving me IV fluids and it helped. Next day I’m at work now and I can say I feel better just very anxious because of it and still a bit dizzy as well overall though drink your water please!
this worked well, thank you!
Can i ask you 2 questions ? Can you answer
what time of year did you do this?
Wonderful ♡♡
Love the intro music.
Beautiful ❤️
I have not had a dryer for over 28 yrs. & don't miss it. Dryers are hard on fabric. They break it down. Line drying will make things last a LOT longer. But I see what you're saying. Sometimes I've laid a hand towel on top of a pillow if there's going to be any reason the pillowcase could get messed up....
MY grandma would allow her JADE sit in back room till it got cold about 34 or 35 outside for awhile then bring it back in a water and it would BLOOM so did the christmas catus and the like .
DOu think .. it would b a good idea 2 put a little sprinkle of pottin mix in water ?
Once you put potting mix in, it's much more difficult to clean the stems and change the water. I would wait until there are good roots, then you could change the water one last time and add potting soil to slowly transition it to soil only.
❤
Clothesline better
You’ve said ‘wink’ for week like 10 times..😂
What is the accepted official names of the Texas Dandelion & the plant you bought seeds of to grow instead of it...?
Is the Texas Dandelion edible?
Yes, indeed. My husband and I were just talking about that today, LOL.

Thank you so much for replying & for the valuable information 😊 👍
Thank you for sharing this! I have a bunch of these in my backyard that I left for the bees and was wondering if it would be safe to dry the leaves and roots out to make tea.
Sounds like a great plan to me! Any part of the plant can be harvested whenever, but I've heard it's most ideal to harvest leaves in the spring and roots in the fall.
Thanks for the quick tip. What temperature is the water??
happened to me at Walmart, passed out and hit my head and was out cold, woke up in the back of an ambulance, doctors said it was from dehydration, before passing out i felt like my body was being jolted or shocked in my upper torso, still not sure what that was. thanks for telling your story.
