I’ve been into trucks and most things with an engine since I was a kid, and this is my means to document and share what I’m working on with a wider audience. I do almost all the work myself out of my barn and driveway at home and out of my own pocket. I'm a little meticulous and a big realist, so my projects reflect that combination and end up being something the average person could afford. I don't know everything but love figuring it out and learning along the way.

I grew up with loadstars, many loadstars and I think very little of loadstars.
They certainly can’t compare with anything built since the 70’s or 80’s, but they’re part of the fabric of history and therefore worth saving
Now you need a swing away Grab Handle. Stromsberg and Carlson I think.
Pretty cool 😎👍😊
lol, just going through this channel and finding all your truck stuff and finding this og video from when you had cooler cars 😂
That was a nice exhaust… probably too loud for my now even older taste 😂
Belleza de motor que transmisión y diferencial le tiene
seeing dayton hubs repainted and shiny like that. Fantastic work on the details man
Thank you sir, I appreciate that
ok this earns the title baddest build on youtube I've seen in a LONG time
I’ll take that!
How much is the fuel consumption of this truck?
No idea, I’ve never checked it
CCCP copied this engine, put it into trucks (Kraz 214, there is video about it on youtube) and buses. I have one of this engine, and think about to install it but no data about fuel mileage.Engine weight 1080kg.
I thought about doing something like this with a Chevy C60 I had a few years ago but was afraid it would shake the camper apart because of how stiff the truck suspension was.
It’s definitely a risk, I just will keep an eye on things, but it’s mitigated for me because I don’t drive it much. Its miles are all on a lowboy trailer that rides pretty nice. The weight of the camper also puts the rear truck springs down on the overloads just a bit, so it’s not as harsh. Thanks for watching
I love it. every efficient build
Thank you!!
Sounds great
Can't find it grind it😅
Ioved driving those. But they weren't built for a tall person
Lots of headroom, not much legroom!
@robstruckshop80 I remember when I drove one
damn, truck goals! 4x4 would be wicked.
Wow! What a fantastic looking rig!
Thank you!
Love your project, unique different, well done 👍 👍
Very much appreciated
That was fun rob thank you... lov from martin in broken cali,
What a very nice run for Lynn the ol' LN9000! And man does she sound good with a full load! Love it! Now, I'd like a video request done. Can you please do a super long, unedited in cab ride along video, with everything from start up, pulling out, plenty of runs through the gears, cruising, jaking, all that stuff? No music, no cuts, no talk, just pure engine and exhaust sounds the whole way! And make sure Lynn has a full heavy load on - perhaps you could put either the F450, the vintage camper, or even the Mack MD truck on the trailer for the unedited in cab drive so I can hear Lynn at her heaviest weight, with that L10 Cummins screaming and chugging along! Please, Rob, please do this for me ASAP - the sooner the better! And I'd like it to be as long as possible as well - the longer the unedited in cab ride, the better! Please, please let me know ASAP.
Love your truck, Rob! The trailer is nice, too. I have a 1992 L9000 with an L10, 10 spd and jake brake. 23000# locking eaton on air. 52 years of driving commercial vehicles. Keep practicing your down shifts using 2 feet and the Jake. Watch your RPMs as you bring the throttle up to catch the next lower gear. Left foot gently braking as needed . Just touch the gear hole gently as you stabilize the RPMs and you will feel the synchro begin to line up. A little bit like lovin your woman....all gentle touches doesthe trick!😊
Haha I appreciate it. I’ve tried but I can’t use my left foot on a brake pedal to save my own life!
Well that's OK. Maybe try slowing a bit earlier at the intersections to give yourself more downshift time. It really does save brakewear, and after all, that is why you installed the Jake. Main thing is to be comfortable though. Great content.
Fun video, enjoy the new rentals and the engine brake sounds good.
Thanks Adam!
That's really cool. 👍
I would seal those OSB boards up or encase em so they dont rot out on ya. Truck is sweet if people are paying a million for an f550 and basically a drop in "luxury" bed camper for a million. Who is to say someone with fckyoumoney wouldnt give a million for yours? Its one of a kind and better in my opinion
In a later video in the series I did seal everything up. I’d gladly build these for people with F$ck you money! Thank you
Barkman Has been around a Very Long Time, But I haven’t Seen Them Out And About Anymore. I Was In The Property Maintenance For 30 Years. We Also Were Doing Concrete and Excavating At The Same Time Under The Umbrella of The Property Maintenance Company. We gave Up The Mowing and Landscaping Because Way To Many Shop Workers Or Anyone Who Could Afford an Exmark All Of a Sudden They Were Undercutting The Prices So We Stopped Doing That And Snow Removal. We actually Still Have Six 60” Exmark Mowers that were Bought A Year Before We Decided To Stop Mowing, Also Four Western Snow Plows and a Slide In Two Yard Stainless Steel Salter. Still In Great Shape. We Won’t Sell Anything Because if I Ever Need That Equipment Then We Won’t Have To Buy Them Again… I Believe The Owner Of Barkman Lived on M-15 on a Road That Starts with M…
We’ve been around since 85 and are bigger than ever. We have not mowed since 1998, only landscape installation and horticultural maintenance now.
Great project. Does the bump in the front of the trailer body prevent the exhaust from exiting at the top of the trailer body? I see heat and soot on the trailer body in a right side crosswind.
That’s just a carryover from when I originally built it as a stake body. In time the truck will get a weed burner exhaust, but for now we don’t drive it enough for it to matter- she’s a trailer queen!
Man, you make that Detroit Diesel sing. Butter smooth shifting. Nothing like the sound of a 2 stroke diesel. Great post!
Thank you! My shifting was pretty lousy back then, the mikes have improved me!
Nice build, I felt a pain in my head when I saw your ceiling light fixture. LOL
Very nice.
Thanks for watching!
You have built something timeless my friend. It will always be in style. Beautiful rig, very nicely done
I appreciate the kind words
Holy smokes! This is fantastic, very highly commendable.Good job
Thanks so much!
Very Cool
Great video and I subscribed because of it. I went from a 2019 F-350 Platinum DRW to a 2023 F-450 Limited and it took me about a month to get used to the ride quality, the additional ride height, and steering. But overall I’m happy with the truck. I have had issues with some of the high tech stuff but it was covered under warranty.
Congrats! I’ll be ordering a replacement 450 sometime this coming spring, hopefully my dealer is right on the lead time! The ride quality is the biggest thing to get used to for sure.
Absolutely great job!
Appreciate it!
I’ve been watching most of your Loadstar videos to get inspiration because one of these days I’d like to swap a loadstar cab onto a more modern International 4700 frame with a DT466. Do you think the DT466 would fit with some doghouse/firewall fabrication? Also do you happen to know the width of the cab from fender to fender? I’d like to figure out whether or not the track width of the 4700 would fit under the loadstar cab. Thank you and keep up the cool videos!
You would need to build a pretty big doghouse or find a Loadstar or Fleetstar cab with a doghouse from the factory, the 466 is nearly twice as long as a V8 gas. In the track width, I’ll try to get a measurement this weekend, but I can tell you it’s pretty narrow- a newer axle will poke a little bit for sure, I found that when I considered putting an S Series school bus axle under mine
@ I’ve seen a few 90s international 4700s in my area that are “low profile” and they have the 19.5 inch wheels instead of the 22.5 inch. I’m not sure what the other differences are on them besides the wheels, but they definitely sit lower to the ground. Some have DT360s and one has a DT466. I’d rather have the 466 because it’s bigger. A few of them also have the 7.3 power stroke motor, but since they don’t have the same power potential as the DT motors I’d prefer to stay away from them. A 10 speed road ranger would be fun, but I’m already getting a little ambitious trying to cram such a large motor into a single cab truck and the 10 speed shifter would probably be sitting closer to the back of the back if I had to take a guess. I’ve never seen one of these trucks in person, but there is one fairly close by that I’m going to go check out.
Like the build, except the Dayton wheels. The cost for conversion is outrages. Still would be enjoyable to have this as an RV
I don’t love Daytons either, but I built this to be absolutely period correct, so they stay. I also drive it less than 100 miles a year so there’s no win to changing them out.
What a beauty ! great build !!! Perfection thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for watching!
You and your wife just won't look right camping in that but I sure would. Just kidding. You guys did yourselfs proud.
Haha, thank you!
That's very cool! Congrats on the project!! 8) Peace --gary
Thank you, Gary!
Great build 👍
Appreciate it!
Outstanding work, looks great, I drove those old IH dump trucks years ago, they run forever, and parts are everywhere *<^>*
Glad you liked the build!
It's cool to see that you built on an old corn binder frame
Looks good, I LIKE the interior. I'd like to check out the diesel heater in more detail. The propane heater in my 5th wheel is a joke.
This small diesel heater is great for small spaces but you’d need more for a larger unit, at that point a true APU or mini split would probably be better, but significantly more expensive. As always, depends on your needs and uses
I'm not sure what your wife does for a living, but she would make a great interior decorator, and you did a fantastic job, only thing missing is a fridge.
Thank You. It may eventually get a fridge, but the way we use it doesn’t give us much of a need over a cooler.
This is so cool! We just bought an updated 1959 teardrop this year. We love retro, and yours is perfect!
Enjoy your new camper!
Looks like it was meant to be that way from the beginning.
Super nice 👍
So cool!
I'm guessing that's a dummy stack...our your ok cleaning up a oily sooty mess off the right front corner of the camper body ??
The stack is there from the trucks original restoration as a stake body. I may eventually convert it to a weed burner but it doesn’t get driven enough to make a mess

Thanks, I hope you find something soon!
The most awesome and impressive part of this build was seeing a comfortable sofa stead of an outdated 1950’s diner booth dinette💥😂💥😂💥
Appreciate that, we just have little use for a dinette and space is at a premium.
