What is basque?
Basque is one of the oldest living languages, and it could be a direct descendant of the language spoken by the inhabitants of the Altamira caves 15,000 years ago. It is spoken in the Basque Country, Spain, and has no relation to Romance languages nor common roots with other languages in the world.

I never realized how much Basque sounds like Latin. Yet not. I'd be curious to learn the history of the language. It's truly haunting hearing this song sung in Basque.

Basque is such a unique language and one of the only ones indigenous in Europe and completely disconnected from any other known language family, very mystical, fits this song!
Thank you so much! We speak Basque everyday (it's our mother language) and seeing some of our cultural signs in "Agatha" like the word "Akelarre" has been an emotional thing for us. A lot of our ancestors were burnt by the Inquisition some centuries ago - accused of being witches - and our native language has been prosecuted in the past at both sides of the frontier. But our people have survived.
