What happened to the Japanese AAR video featuring Tora tora tora?

I am currently playing ATR and really want to get into AWAW...very instructive video!!...however, in the latter case (17:37 min), and in any case Bergen remains uncontrolled by the Germ\ans, the Allies have a good chance to transport 1 x 4-5 armored to occupy Oslo and defend like Infantry due the Limited Supply but good enough to trouble the Germans....if the German Airborne jumps in Bergen, Norway looks pretty much secured even from an ambitious British Invasion. there...Next Turn Bergen could be Sea Supplied with fresh and dangerous German fleets...IMHO...!

Greetings from Germany 🤓 I would like to know why the British would control the empty hexes between Bergen and Oslo after the German Airdrop. How does this works since this wasn’t the Allied turn. Sorry for this question but I learn this great game since last week🫣

This needs to be updated. Russian winter attritions allow the Russian to take rough terrain as of the latest AWAW update published in Dec 2023/Jan 2024.

As a teenager I loved playing Third Reich with my brothers and friends. We loved it, but also came to realize it had flaws and needed improvement. AWaW seems the ideal upgrade, so now I am planning to buy it and work up the courage to get it past my wife. 😊

In a game of Advanced 3rd Reich, I played as Britain and the German player failed to garrison the port of Bremen. I landed a 2-5 armor and a 3-4 infantry on the beach in that hex and exploited with two 4-5 armor all the way to Berlin in the fall of '39. Italy had to declare war in order to supply the whole Heer or they would be eliminated in winter, game over. The Axis never recovered.

I stole the pre-game mechanism from Harnmaster and the motivations (or whatever those were called) from Burning Wheel and have used them to good effect in other games. Of course, in Traveller the pregame part is taken care of.

This game has quickly garnered a rep as having THE WORST WRITTEN rulebook in recent game history. Is this well-deserved? Not even touching this game since there is nothing more infuriating for a hobbyist who has to suffer through a game designer's poor writing skills.

I came here thinking this was about the old documentary series from the 1970s, which included a few of the images in the thumbnail in it's opening credits. What was the documentary series 'mistake'? It was made before the role of codebreaking and bletchley park was declassified. They tried to explain the battle of the atlantic and the sinking of the bizmark without the most important factors, that the allies were reading all the german codes. Still, haven't tried this game.. I'll look it up on board game geek.

I wish the rulebook was as clear as these videos. I don't recall the rulebook stating that a negative balance of power favours the allies and vice versa.

One minor correction at 17:38 -- The number of armor units that can exploit from this position would be four, not five.

This has always been a rough day for me as well but for I different reason I suspect. Great job Bruce! If I had no knowledge of Tesla and his experiments I would have not been fooled. I will go ahead and use the rules, so there. In theory it is possible.

I hate this day and all it stands for as the Christmas for people who aren't as funny as they think they are. With that in mind it's really noteworthy that I can say thank you, Bruce Harper 😀. Wow. I am so impressed with Warplanner. I’ve been a player since the late 1970’s starting out with the Classic 3R. Then moved on to A3R some years later. But life got busy and it has been more than 20 years since I last played. I bought a copy of AWAW in 2015 but have been too busy for years to devote any time to exploring it. But with Warplanner, that will change. I’m blown away by the beauty and elegance of this online playing tool. How far we have come since the old PBM days 40+ years ago! I tip my hat to the programmers and graphics folks who put this together. What an obvious labor of love for such a wonderful, venerable game. 😀

As a long time Star Fleet Battles player (who's trying to get into AWAW), I can COMPLETELY empathize with both the "the rules are too complicated" and "I'll be eaten by sharks" fears from new beginners. In SFB, we've got the problem that most of the player base has 30+ years of experience, and can easily wipe the floor with most new players until they've gotten enough time in to wrap their heads around the fundamentals of not just playing the game, but playing it well. That makes it hard to recruit. (And there's a lot less complexity tolerance in the hobby these days, too.)

Great review. Even a guy who's played 3R all the way back to the 2nd edition, and iterations since-yeah me; screws these up "on occasion"....

Mr. Harper, I just bought all 3 of the games and have spent 3 weeks magnetiking counters and studying the games. I must tell you that I have never put so much time into a game system. I am so exciting to get started. I'm gonna play each turn like it's a chocolate shake, just enjoy every part of it. Thank you so much for making a such detailed realistic game. @3:50 Yeah I'd rather have repetition and a bit of redundancy in rules than have struggle finding the rule. I have AWAR sitting on my shelf; I used to play a lot of Third Reich on PC, and I'm just waiting for the time to be able to sit down and read it all.
