    Hi, and where is load balancer talk in your video series? As I can understand its needed but you talk almost nothing about it:(

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, In Red Hat OpenShift 4.x using the IPI (Installer-Provisioned Infrastructure) method, the load balancer is typically handled by the platform where OpenShift is being deployed. Here’s where you can see and interact with the load balancer, depending on the infrastructure provider: 1. AWS, Azure, GCP (Cloud Providers) - The OpenShift installer provisions a cloud-native load balancer (e.g., AWS ELB, Azure Load Balancer, or GCP Load Balancer). - You can view the load balancer in: - AWS: EC2 Dashboard → Load Balancers - Azure: Azure Portal → Load Balancers - GCP: Google Cloud Console → Network Services → Load Balancers - These load balancers distribute traffic to the OpenShift API (`api.<cluster_name>.<domain>`) and Ingress (`apps.<cluster_name>.<domain>`). 2. Bare Metal & vSphere - Since cloud-native load balancers are not available, you need an external load balancer like HAProxy, F5, or Nginx. - The installer expects you to set up a bootstrap load balancer for API traffic and an Ingress load balancer for application routes. - You can check your load balancer configuration in: - HAProxy Configuration: `/etc/haproxy/haproxy.cfg` - F5 Load Balancer UI: Virtual Servers & Pools - NGINX Configuration: `/etc/nginx/nginx.conf` 3. OpenShift Cluster Perspective - Inside OpenShift, the Cluster Ingress Operator manages application routing. - You can check the router pods: oc get pods -n openshift-ingress - Check service details: oc get svc -n openshift-ingress - The default service (`router-default`) points to the load balancer.

    Can anyone help me- when following all the steps up until 11:54 everything works, however, when I restart and go back the same message pops up about "PC Can't Run Windows 11". If I go back into the Regedit, the foler/key I originally setup is no longer there, so somehow when it reboots it removes the changes I made in the previous steps. Any ideas on how to get around it?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It sounds like your registry changes are not being saved before the reboot. Here are a few things to try: 1. Ensure You’re in the Correct Registry Path - Double-check that you are modifying `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig`. 2. Manually Save the Registry Changes - After making the changes, close the Registry Editor properly and exit installation mode before restarting. 3. Run Registry Editor as Administrator - Ensure you have full permissions when editing the registry. 4. Use Shift + F10 Before Restarting - After applying the registry changes, try pressing Shift + F10 to open the command prompt and restart manually (`shutdown /r /t 0`). 5. Check If Your Bootable ISO Resets Registry Changes - If you're using an official Windows 11 ISO, it may reset changes on reboot. Try using a modified ISO with TPM and Secure Boot checks bypassed.

    I think we can increase a VM's memory and CPU even if there is a snapshot, but only if the "CPU Hot Plug" and "Memory Hot Plug" options are enabled.

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, Yes, that's correct. If 'CPU Hot Plug' and 'Memory Hot Plug' are enabled, you can increase CPU and memory while the VM is running, even if a snapshot exists. However, there are limitations: - Hot-add may not work on all OS versions (e.g., Windows Server Standard old editions don't support CPU hot-add). - Memory hot-add works only if the guest OS supports dynamic memory changes. - If the VM needs a restart for changes to take effect, the snapshot could prevent reverting properly if issues arise. So while it's possible, it's always good to validate compatibility and consider potential risks before making changes.

    If we are applying the update from vami why did we mount the update to vcenter server? Vcenter server is already up and running and doesn't boot from mounted file. Please correct me if I'm missing something

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your question! You’re absolutely correct that vCenter Server doesn’t boot from the mounted ISO file, and it’s not required for the appliance to boot from it during an update. The reason we mount the update ISO to the vCenter Server is that it serves as a source for the update files. When using VAMI for updates in environments where the vCenter Appliance doesn’t have direct internet access or where you prefer using a downloaded update ISO, mounting the file allows the appliance to access the necessary update packages locally. This approach ensures that the update process can proceed without relying on an external connection to VMware’s repository. It’s a common method for environments with strict network policies or offline configurations.

    Can you please explain why did we download the file from product patches if the updates are already available in vami?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a great question! You are absolutely right that updates can be installed directly via the vSphere Appliance Management Interface (VAMI). However, downloading the update file from VMware's Product Patches page is sometimes necessary or preferred in specific scenarios, such as: Offline Environments: If the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) does not have direct internet access, downloading the update manually allows you to patch it without needing connectivity to VMware's update repository. Controlled Updates: In some cases, administrators prefer downloading the update file to review or test it in a lab environment before applying it in production. Flexibility: The manual method provides more control over when and how the update is applied, especially in environments with strict change management processes. Using VAMI for updates is more straightforward if the appliance has internet access and there are no restrictions. Both methods achieve the same result, so the choice depends on your specific setup and requirements. Thank you for raising this point

      Hi Sir, Yes, you are absolutely correct! The ESXi upgrade can also be performed using VMware Lifecycle Manager (vLCM), which is a great option for environments managed by vCenter Server. vLCM provides a streamlined way to upgrade ESXi hosts and ensures compliance with desired state configurations. However, the method shown in this video demonstrates how to upgrade an ESXi host using HPE iLO and an ISO image. This approach is particularly useful for standalone ESXi hosts or in scenarios where vCenter Server is not available. Both methods are valid, and the choice depends on your specific environment and requirements. Thank you for bringing this up!

    I have seen some of blog posts where they have not selected Available services as management, while creating NFS VMkernal port group...! is it right ?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your question! When creating a VMkernel port group for NFS storage in VMware, selecting "Available Services" as "Management" is generally not required unless the VMkernel port is also intended for management traffic. For NFS traffic, you only need to ensure the "NFS" service is enabled. Here's a clarification: If the port group is dedicated solely to NFS traffic, you should select "NFS" as the available service when configuring the VMkernel port. Selecting "Management" would typically be done for a port group intended to handle management tasks like vSphere client connections or vCenter server communication. Selecting unnecessary services can cause unwanted traffic and potential security concerns, so it's good to keep services specific to their intended purpose.

      @gnancloudgarage thank you for info Another thing I came across that in real time enviornment their is no need to setup port group binding for iscsi storage

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Toward-eternity76 Thank you for your question! In a real-time production environment, port group binding for iSCSI storage is generally not required if you are using VMware ESXi, as it automatically handles network failover for iSCSI traffic at the VMkernel layer. This is because VMware’s iSCSI multipathing is designed to work with VMkernel adapters (one-to-one mapping) rather than relying on port group policies. However, port binding might still be relevant in specific scenarios where strict control is needed, such as in certain legacy setups or configurations with specific storage requirements. The key consideration is to follow VMware’s best practices for your specific storage vendor and ensure multipathing is correctly configured for redundancy and performance.

    What happens to the source machine after conversion? Will it be powered on and working?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The source machine remains untouched and operational after the conversion process. VMware vCenter Converter Standalone performs a "clone" operation, meaning it creates a copy of the source machine in the target environment without affecting the original. After the conversion, the source machine stays powered on and continues to function as it did before the process. In most real-world scenarios, this conversion process is typically performed to eventually decommission the source machine. Once the destination virtual machine has been thoroughly validated and confirmed to meet organizational standards, the source machine is decommissioned according to the organization's policies and procedures.

HA (High Availability), DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler), and FT (Fault Tolerance) are managed by the ESXi hosts and the cluster. vCenter is only required to configure and manage these features. If vCenter is down, existing HA, DRS, and FT configurations continue to function. For example, HA will still restart VMs in case of a host failure, and FT-protected VMs will remain operational. However, you won't be able to make changes to these configurations or view real-time cluster/resource metrics until vCenter is restored. Are VMs migrated if vCenter goes down or is not working due to some internal issue? DRS will not initiate new VM migrations (vMotion) automatically when vCenter is down, as DRS relies on vCenter for decision-making. However, if VMs are already running, they will remain unaffected. What happens if the host accommodating vCenter goes down? If the host running the vCenter VM goes down and HA is enabled in the cluster, HA will restart the vCenter VM on another host in the cluster. This process is automatic and ensures minimal downtime. Does the vCenter VM migrate to a neighboring node? If vCenter is configured with DRS and vMotion and the cluster is healthy, vCenter itself can migrate proactively as part of DRS load-balancing decisions. However, if the host fails suddenly, HA will handle restarting the vCenter VM on a surviving host in the cluster.

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Madam, Thank you for your kind words! 😊 To answer your question: Private Cloud and On-Premises (On-Prem) are related but not exactly the same. Private Cloud: This refers to cloud services and infrastructure dedicated to a single organization, which can either be hosted on-premises or in a third-party data center. It offers cloud-like scalability and automation while maintaining strict control and security. On-Premises: This means hosting your IT infrastructure, including servers and storage, entirely within your organization's physical location. It doesn’t inherently offer cloud capabilities unless it's set up as a private cloud. In short, an on-premises setup can be turned into a private cloud with the right technologies like vRA (vRealize Automation) and SDDC (Software-Defined Data Center) to provide automation and scalability.

UCaaS platforms like Thirdlane Multi Tenant PBX really make a huge difference. Without them, staying on top of everything would be a lot tougher. It's all about having the right tools to keep clients satisfied and systems secure!

    Sir, can we create a separate partition in \ and mount it permanently in a red hat coreos. The node is a physical machine and one disk has 3.5TB and it's mounted with \usr and \var. can you please me out on this ?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Sir, Thank you for your question! Yes, you can create a separate partition and mount it permanently on Red Hat CoreOS. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you out: Steps to Create and Mount a Separate Partition: 1. Check Existing Disk Layout Use the command to list the current partitions and disks: lsblk fdisk -l Identify the available space on your 3.5TB disk. 2. Create a New Partition Use `fdisk` or `parted` to create a new partition: fdisk /dev/sdX - Replace `/dev/sdX` with your actual disk name. - Follow the prompts to create a new partition. 3. Format the Partition Format the new partition with a suitable filesystem (e.g., ext4): mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdXn - Replace `/dev/sdXn` with your partition name (e.g., `/dev/sda3`). 4. Create a Mount Point Choose a directory under `/` where you want to mount it permanently (e.g., `/data`): mkdir /data 5. Mount the Partition Temporarily Mount the partition to test: mount /dev/sdXn /data 6. Update `/etc/fstab` for Permanent Mounting Add an entry in `/etc/fstab` for permanent mounting: echo '/dev/sdXn /data ext4 defaults 0 2' >> /etc/fstab Test the `/etc/fstab` file to ensure there are no errors: mount -a 7. Verify the Mount Check the mounted partition using: df -h Notes: - Ensure there is no critical data loss on your disk by taking a backup if necessary. - Since you're using Red Hat CoreOS, verify compatibility and required configurations as CoreOS is immutable. Some configurations might need Ignition or Butane to persist.

    Will /storage/archive 95 percent full cause vcenter webpage inaccessible?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, Thank you for your question. While the /storage/archive partition being 95% full is unlikely to directly cause the vCenter Server webpage to become inaccessible, it can lead to other issues if not addressed promptly. Here's why: Logs and Archives Storage: The /storage/archive partition is used to store archived log files. If it becomes completely full, it could prevent further logging, which may indirectly affect vCenter performance or troubleshooting. Preventative Measures: It's always a good practice to monitor and manage storage usage proactively to avoid unexpected issues. Archiving or deleting unnecessary log files can help prevent this partition from filling up completely. If the vCenter webpage is already inaccessible, the issue might be related to another service or partition. I recommend checking the /storage/log and /storage/core partitions as well, as they are critical for vCenter operations.

    Can we deploy the upgraded vcsa on the same esxi host on which the old vcsa is deployed?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi , Yes, it is possible to deploy the upgraded VCSA on the same ESXi host where the old VCSA is currently deployed. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind: Resource Availability: Ensure the ESXi host has sufficient resources (CPU, memory, and storage) to accommodate both the old and the new VCSA during the upgrade process. Temporary Network Requirements: During the upgrade, both the old and new VCSA instances need to run concurrently. Ensure there are no IP or DNS conflicts. Storage Location: Verify that the datastore on the ESXi host has enough free space for the new VCSA appliance and its temporary data during the upgrade. Downtime Impact: Plan for minimal downtime, as the process involves switching services from the old VCSA to the new one. Once the upgrade is complete and validated, the old VCSA can be safely powered down and removed.

      Not exactly. The new name is temporary and will only be used during the upgrade process. Once the vCenter upgrade is complete, it will revert to the original name.
